Simulation of valveless micropump and mode analysis
In this work, a 3-D simulation is performed to study for the solid-fluid
coupling effect driven by piezoelectric materials and utilizes asymmetric
obstacles to control the flow direction. The result of simulation is also
verified. For a micropump, it is crucial to find the optimal working frequency
which produce maximum net flow rate. The PZT plate vibrates under the first
mode, which is symmetric. Adjusting the working frequency, the maximum flow
rate can be obtained. For the micrpump we studied, the optimal working
frequency is 3.2K Hz. At higher working frequency, say 20K Hz, the fluid-solid
membrane may come out a intermediate mode, which is different from the first
mode and the second mode. It is observed that the center of the mode drifts.
Meanwhile, the result shows that a phase shift lagging when the excitation
force exists in the vibration response. Finally, at even higher working
frequency, say 30K Hz, a second vibration mode is observed.Comment: Submitted on behalf of EDA Publishing Association

Electromagnetic manipulation for anti-Zeno effect in an engineered quantum tunneling process
We investigate the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects for the irreversible
quantum tunneling from a quantum dot to a ring array of quantum dots. By
modeling the total system with the Anderson-Fano-Lee model, it is found that
the transition from the quantum Zeno effect to quantum anti-Zeno effect can
happen as the magnetic flux and the gate voltage were adjusted.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
A quotient of the Lubin-Tate tower II
In this article we construct the quotient M_1/P(K) of the infinite-level
Lubin-Tate space M_1 by the parabolic subgroup P(K) of GL(n,K) of block form
(n-1,1) as a perfectoid space, generalizing results of one of the authors (JL)
to arbitrary n and K/Q_p finite. For this we prove some perfectoidness results
for certain Harris-Taylor Shimura varieties at infinite level. As an
application of the quotient construction we show a vanishing theorem for
Scholze's candidate for the mod p Jacquet-Langlands and the mod p local
Langlands correspondence. An appendix by David Hansen gives a local proof of
perfectoidness of M_1/P(K) when n = 2, and shows that M_1/Q(K) is not
perfectoid for maximal parabolics Q not conjugate to P.Comment: with an appendix by David Hanse
White blood cell count and risk of incident lung cancer in the UK Biobank
Background The contribution of measurable immunological/inflammatory parameters to lung cancer development remains unclear, particularly among never-smokers. We investigated the relationship between total and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts and incident lung cancer risk overall and among subgroups defined by smoking status and sex in the United Kingdom (UK). Methods We evaluated 424,407 adults aged 37-73 years from the UK Biobank. Questionnaires, physical measurements, and blood were administered/collected at baseline in 2006-2010. Complete blood cell counts were measured using standard methods. Lung cancer diagnoses and histological classifications were obtained from cancer registries. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of incident lung cancer in relation to quartiles (Q) of total WBC and subtype-specific counts, with Q1 as the reference. Results There were 1,493 incident cases diagnosed over an average 7-year follow-up. Overall, the highest quartile of total WBC count was significantly associated with elevated lung cancer risk (HRQ4=1.67, 95% CI:1.41-1.98). Among women, increased risks were found in current-smokers (ncases/n=244/19,464, HRQ4=2.15, 95% CI:1.46-3.16), former-smokers (ncases/n=280/69,198, HRQ4=1.75, 95% CI:1.24-2.47), and never-smokers without environmental tobacco smoke exposure (ncases/n=108/111,294, HRQ4=1.93, 95% CI:1.11-3.35). Among men, stronger associations were identified in current-smokers (ncases/n=329/22,934, HRQ4=2.95, 95% CI:2.04-4.26) and former-smokers (ncases/n= 358/71,616, HRQ4=2.38, 95% CI:1.74-3.27) but not in never-smokers. Findings were similar for lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma and were driven primarily by elevated neutrophil fractions. Conclusions Elevated WBCs could potentially be one of many important markers for increased lung cancer risk, especially among never-smoking women and ever-smoking men
A multiple exp-function method for nonlinear differential equations and its application
A multiple exp-function method to exact multiple wave solutions of nonlinear
partial differential equations is proposed. The method is oriented towards ease
of use and capability of computer algebra systems, and provides a direct and
systematical solution procedure which generalizes Hirota's perturbation scheme.
With help of Maple, an application of the approach to the dimensional
potential-Yu-Toda-Sasa-Fukuyama equation yields exact explicit 1-wave and
2-wave and 3-wave solutions, which include 1-soliton, 2-soliton and 3-soliton
type solutions. Two cases with specific values of the involved parameters are
plotted for each of 2-wave and 3-wave solutions.Comment: 12 pages, 16 figure
A genuine maximally seven-qubit entangled state
Contrary to A.Borras et al.'s [1] conjecture, a genuine maximally seven-qubit
entangled state is presented. We find a seven-qubit state whose marginal
density matrices for subsystems of 1,2- qubits are all completely mixed and for
subsystems of 3-qubits is almost completely mixed
Suppression of interdiffusion in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum-well structure capped with dielectric films by deposition of gallium oxide
In this work, different dielectric caps were deposited on the GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well(QW) structures followed by rapid thermal annealing to generate different degrees of interdiffusion. Deposition of a layer of GaxOy on top of these dielectric caps resulted in significant suppression of interdiffusion. In these samples, it was found that although the deposition of GaxOy and subsequent annealing caused additional injection of Ga into the SiO₂ layer, Ga atoms were still able to outdiffuse from the GaAsQW structure during annealing, to generate excess Ga vacancies. The suppression of interdiffusion with the presence of Ga vacancies was explained by the thermal stress effect which suppressed Ga vacancydiffusion during annealing. It suggests that GaxOy may therefore be used as a mask material in conjunction with other dielectric capping layers in order to control and selectively achieve impurity-free vacancy disordering.J. The Escape Problem in a Classical Field Theory With Two Coupled Fields
We introduce and analyze a system of two coupled partial differential
equations with external noise. The equations are constructed to model
transitions of monovalent metallic nanowires with non-axisymmetric intermediate
or end states, but also have more general applicability. They provide a rare
example of a system for which an exact solution of nonuniform stationary states
can be found. We find a transition in activation behavior as the interval
length on which the fields are defined is varied. We discuss several
