Chapter 14 - Let’s Begin at the End: How a Campus Bookstore Closure Set the Wheels in Motion for a Hybrid OER Project by Jonas Lamb is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, except where otherwise noted.This chapter discusses the efforts and lessons learned from a grassroots, affordable content initiative that took shape following the closure of the brick and mortar campus bookstore. The UAS Alt-Textbook Project can serve as a model for how campus affordable content initiatives can be put in motion with minimal funding by utilizing existing campus resources, the expertise and advocacy of key faculty and administrative champions. Efforts at UAS have impacted faculty teaching methodologies, contributed to significant student savings and provided a platform for open education advocates on campus. The chapter closes by discussing next steps required to formalize, mobilize and better measure the impacts of the project.Ye

boys, family, animal companions. Turtle blood acts as an elixir, opening doors to the muck of
childhood, that coursing of heat and blood felt in the ears while walking the edge of right and
wrong. In these poems fatherhood and home ownership are impending disasters that complicate
the domestic landscape. Origin stories emerge unexpectedly from gardens, in bites of pickled
whitefish and the gold foil of butterscotch candy. What routes have led us here, from what seeds
have we grown? The critical essay, “Subverting Sentimentality in the Poetry of Parenthood,”
scrutinizes elements of craft in contemporary American poetry that unpack tropes and reveal the
overlooked undercurrents of parenting.Ye

The Digital Public Library of America and Academic Libraries: How the DPLA Advances Teaching, Learning, and Research
Within a very short period of time, the Digital Public Library of America has become an important institution and infrastructure for discovering and working with materials in libraries, archives, and museums. As a portal, platform, and public option for access, DPLA creates exciting opportunities for innovative teaching, learning, and research within academic institutions. DPLA staff and Community Representatives will facilitate a discussion about DPLA’s promising role in fostering collaboration among academic libraries and user communities
Panel options for large precision radio telescopes
The Cornell Caltech Atacama Telescope (CCAT) is a 25 m diameter telescope that will operate at wavelengths as short as 200 microns. CCAT will have active surface control to correct for gravitational and thermal distortions in the reflector support structure. The accuracy and stability of the reflector panels are critical to meeting the 10 micron HWFE (half wave front error) for the whole system. A system analysis based upon a versatile generic panel design has been developed and applied to numerous possible panel configurations. The error analysis includes the manufacturing errors plus the distortions from gravity, wind and thermal environment. The system performance as a function of panel size and construction material is presented. A compound panel approach is also described in which the reflecting surface is provided by tiles mounted on thermally stable and stiff sub-frames. This approach separates the function of providing an accurate reflecting surface from the requirement for a stable structure that is attached to the reflector support structure on three computer controlled actuators. The analysis indicates that there are several compound panel configurations that will easily meet the stringent CCAT requirements

Downregulation of miR-92a Is Associated with Aggressive Breast Cancer Features and Increased Tumour Macrophage Infiltration
BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs involved in the regulation of gene expression on a posttranscriptional level. These regulatory RNAs have been implicated in numerous cellular processes and are further deregulated in different cancer types, including breast cancer. MiR-92a is part of the miR-17∼92 cluster, which was first reported to be linked to tumourigenesis. However, little is known about the expression of miR-92a in breast cancer and potential associations to tumour properties. The expression of miR-92a was therefore characterized in 144 invasive breast cancer samples using in situ hybridization and related to clinico-pathological data as well as to selected key properties of the tumour stroma, including the presence of macrophages (CD68) and cancer activated fibroblasts (alpha-SMA). METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: To measure miR-92a levels, an in situ hybridisation protocol was developed and validated using cell lines and miR-92a inhibitors. The expression in the tumour samples was objectively evaluated using digital image analysis program subtracting background activities. We found that the miR-92a expression varied between tumours and was inversely correlated to tumour grade (r = -0.276, p = 0.003) and recurrence-free survival (p = 0.008) and provided independent prognostic information in multivariate Cox analysis (HR: 0.375, CI: 0.145-0.972, p = 0.043). MiR-92a was moreover inversely correlated to the number of infiltrating macrophages in the tumour stroma (r = -0.357, p<0.001), and downregulation of miR-92a promoted cell migration (p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: This study demonstrates that downregulation of miR-92a in breast cancer is linked to key epithelial and stromal properties as well as clinical outcome
