    Sustainable Growth and Ethics: a Study of Business Ethics in Vietnam Between Business Students and Working Adults

    Sustainable growth is not only the ultimate goal of business corporations but also the primary target of local governments as well as regional and global economies. One of the cornerstones of sustainable growth is ethics. An ethical organizational culture provides support to achieve sustainable growth. Ethical leaders and employees have great potential for positive influence on decisions and behaviors that lead to sustainability. Ethical behavior, therefore, is expected of everyone in the modern workplace. As a result, companies devote many resources and training programs to make sure their employees live according to the high ethical standards. This study provides an analysis of Vietnamese business students’ level of ethical maturity based on gender, education, work experience, and ethics training. The results of data from 260 business students compared with 704 working adults in Vietnam demonstrate that students have a significantly higher level of ethical maturity. Furthermore, gender and work experience are significant factors in ethical maturity. While more educated respondents and those who had completed an ethics course did have a higher level of ethical maturity, the results were not statistically significant. Analysis of the results along with suggestions and implications are provided

    Multiple Reggeon Exchange from Summing QCD Feynman Diagrams

    Multiple reggeon exchange supplies subleading logs that may be used to restore unitarity to the Low-Nussinov Pomeron, provided it can be proven that the sum of Feynman diagrams to all orders gives rise to such multiple regge exchanges. This question cannot be easily tackled in the usual way except for very low-order diagrams, on account of delicate cancellations present in the sum which necessitate individual Feynman diagrams to be computed to subleading orders. Moreover, it is not clear that sums of high-order Feynman diagrams with complicated criss-crossing of lines can lead to factorization implied by the multi-regge scenario. Both of these difficulties can be overcome by using the recently developed nonabelian cut diagrams.     Origin of the different conductive behavior in pentavalent-ion-doped anatase and rutile TiO2_2

    The electronic properties of pentavalent-ion (Nb5+^{5+}, Ta5+^{5+}, and I5+^{5+}) doped anatase and rutile TiO2_2 are studied using spin-polarized GGA+\emph{U} calculations. Our calculated results indicate that these two phases of TiO2_2 exhibit different conductive behavior upon doping. For doped anatase TiO2_2, some up-spin-polarized Ti 3\emph{d} states lie near the conduction band bottom and cross the Fermi level, showing an \emph{n}-type half-metallic character. For doped rutile TiO2_2, the Fermi level is pinned between two up-spin-polarized Ti 3\emph{d} gap states, showing an insulating character. These results can account well for the experimental different electronic transport properties in Nb (Ta)-doped anatase and rutile TiO2_2.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    An explicit two-soliton solution for the derivative nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with nonvanishing boundary conditions is derived, demonstrating details of interactions between two bright solitons, two dark solitons, as well as one bright soliton and one dark soliton.     A feature-rich transmission spectrum for WASP-127b

    WASP-127b is one of the lowest density planets discovered to date. With a sub-Saturn mass (Mp=0.18±0.02MJM_{\rm p}=0.18 \pm 0.02 M_J) and super-Jupiter radius (Rp=1.37±0.04RJR_{\rm p}= 1.37 \pm 0.04 R_J), it orbits a bright G5 star, which is about to leave the main-sequence. We aim to explore WASP-127b's atmosphere in order to retrieve its main atmospheric components, and to find hints for its intriguing inflation and evolutionary history. We used the ALFOSC spectrograph at the NOT telescope to observe a low resolution (R330R\sim330, seeing limited) long-slit spectroscopic time series during a planetary transit, and present here the first transmission spectrum for WASP-127b. We find the presence of a strong Rayleigh slope at blue wavelengths and a hint of Na absorption, although the quality of the data does not allow us to claim a detection. At redder wavelengths the absorption features of TiO and VO are the best explanation to fit the data. Although higher signal-to-noise ratio observations are needed to conclusively confirm the absorption features, WASP-127b seems to posses a cloud-free atmosphere and is one of the best targets to perform further characterization studies in the near future.Comment: Accepted for Publication A&A Letters, May 22nd, 201

    Pipe network model for scaling of dynamic interfaces in porous media

    We present a numerical study on the dynamics of imbibition fronts in porous media using a pipe network model. This model quantitatively reproduces the anomalous scaling behavior found in imbibition experiments [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 52}, 5166 (1995)].     Nano-displacement measurements using spatially multimode squeezed light

    We demonstrate the possibility of surpassing the quantum noise limit for simultaneous multi-axis spatial displacement measurements that have zero mean values. The requisite resources for these measurements are squeezed light beams with exotic transverse mode profiles. We show that, in principle, lossless combination of these modes can be achieved using the non-degenerate Gouy phase shift of optical resonators. When the combined squeezed beams are measured with quadrant detectors, we experimentally demonstrate a simultaneous reduction in the transverse x- and y- displacement fluctuations of 2.2 dB and 3.1 dB below the quantum noise limit.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, submitted to "Special Issue on Fluctuations & Noise in Photonics & Quantum Optics" of J.     Computation of saddle type slow manifolds using iterative methods

    This paper presents an alternative approach for the computation of trajectory segments on slow manifolds of saddle type. This approach is based on iterative methods rather than collocation-type methods. Compared to collocation methods, that require mesh refinements to ensure uniform convergence with respect to ϵ\epsilon, appropriate estimates are directly attainable using the method of this paper. The method is applied to several examples including: A model for a pair of neurons coupled by reciprocal inhibition with two slow and two fast variables and to the computation of homoclinic connections in the FitzHugh-Nagumo system.Comment: To appear in SIAM Journal of Applied Dynamical System

    Self-aligned nanoscale SQUID on a tip

    A nanometer-sized superconducting quantum interference device (nanoSQUID) is fabricated on the apex of a sharp quartz tip and integrated into a scanning SQUID microscope. A simple self-aligned fabrication method results in nanoSQUIDs with diameters down to 100 nm with no lithographic processing. An aluminum nanoSQUID with an effective area of 0.034 μ\mum2^2 displays flux sensitivity of 1.8106\cdot 10^{-6} Φ0/Hz1/2andoperatesinfieldsashighas0.6T.Withprojectedspinsensitivityof65\Phi_0/\mathrm{Hz}^{1/2} and operates in fields as high as 0.6 T. With projected spin sensitivity of 65 \mu_B/\mathrm{Hz}^{1/2}$ and high bandwidth, the SQUID on a tip is a highly promising probe for nanoscale magnetic imaging and spectroscopy.Comment: 14 manuscript pages, 5 figure

    Optimum Small Optical Beam Displacement Measurement

    We derive the quantum noise limit for the optical beam displacement of a TEM00 mode. Using a multimodal analysis, we show that the conventional split detection scheme for measuring beam displacement is non-optimal with 80% efficiency. We propose a new displacement measurement scheme that is optimal for small beam displacement. This scheme utilises a homodyne detection setup that has a TEM10 mode local oscillator. We show that although the quantum noise limit to displacement measurement can be surpassed using squeezed light in appropriate spatial modes for both schemes, the TEM10 homodyning scheme out-performs split detection for all values of squeezing.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure
