Influence of the Coulomb potential on above-threshold ionization: a quantum-orbit analysis beyond the strong-field approximation
We perform a detailed analysis of how the interplay between the residual
binding potential and a strong laser field influences above-threshold
ionization (ATI), employing a semi-analytical, Coulomb-corrected strong-field
approximation (SFA) in which the Coulomb potential is incorporated in the
electron propagation in the continuum. We find that the Coulomb interaction
lifts the degeneracy of some SFA trajectories, and we identify a set of orbits
which, for high enough photoelectron energies, may be associated with
rescattering. Furthermore, by performing a direct comparison with the standard
SFA, we show that several features in the ATI spectra can be traced back to the
influence of the Coulomb potential on different electron trajectories. These
features include a decrease in the contrast, a shift towards lower energies in
the interference substructure, and an overall increase in the photoelectron
yield. All features encountered exhibit a very good agreement with the \emph{ab
initio} solution of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figure
Modeling of a Cantilever-Based Near-Field Scanning Microwave Microscope
We present a detailed modeling and characterization of our scalable microwave
nanoprobe, which is a micro-fabricated cantilever-based scanning microwave
probe with separated excitation and sensing electrodes. Using finite-element
analysis, the tip-sample interaction is modeled as small impedance changes
between the tip electrode and the ground at our working frequencies near 1GHz.
The equivalent lumped elements of the cantilever can be determined by
transmission line simulation of the matching network, which routes the
cantilever signals to 50 Ohm feed lines. In the microwave electronics, the
background common-mode signal is cancelled before the amplifier stage so that
high sensitivity (below 1 atto-Farad capacitance changes) is obtained.
Experimental characterization of the microwave probes was performed on
ion-implanted Si wafers and patterned semiconductor samples. Pure electrical or
topographical signals can be realized using different reflection modes of the
probe.Comment: 7 figure
Resolution in Linguistic Propositional Logic based on Linear Symmetrical Hedge Algebra
The paper introduces a propositional linguistic logic that serves as the
basis for automated uncertain reasoning with linguistic information. First, we
build a linguistic logic system with truth value domain based on a linear
symmetrical hedge algebra. Then, we consider G\"{o}del's t-norm and t-conorm to
define the logical connectives for our logic. Next, we present a resolution
inference rule, in which two clauses having contradictory linguistic truth
values can be resolved. We also give the concept of reliability in order to
capture the approximative nature of the resolution inference rule. Finally, we
propose a resolution procedure with the maximal reliability.Comment: KSE 2013 conferenc
Post-Newtonian Models of Binary Neutron Stars
Using an energy variational method, we calculate quasi-equilibrium
configurations of binary neutron stars modeled as compressible triaxial
ellipsoids obeying a polytropic equation of state. Our energy functional
includes terms both for the internal hydrodynamics of the stars and for the
external orbital motion. We add the leading post-Newtonian (PN) corrections to
the internal and gravitational energies of the stars, and adopt hybrid orbital
terms which are fully relativistic in the test-mass limit and always accurate
to PN order. The total energy functional is varied to find quasi-equilibrium
sequences for both corotating and irrotational binaries in circular orbits. We
examine how the orbital frequency at the innermost stable circular orbit
depends on the polytropic index n and the compactness parameter GM/Rc^2. We
find that, for a given GM/Rc^2, the innermost stable circular orbit along an
irrotational sequence is about 17% larger than the innermost secularly stable
circular orbit along the corotating sequence when n=0.5, and 20% larger when
n=1. We also examine the dependence of the maximum neutron star mass on the
orbital frequency and find that, if PN tidal effects can be neglected, the
maximum equilibrium mass increases as the orbital separation decreases.Comment: 53 pages, LaTex, 9 figures as 10 postscript files, accepted by Phys.
