    Role of adiponectin/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling pathway on limb ischemic preconditioning on myocardial protection

    The adiponectin/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (ADP/PI3k/Akt) signal transduction  pathway has an important role in promoting cell survival. This study was designed to determine if the  ADP/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway has a role in the mechanism of ischemia–reperfusion injury in vivo.  Sprague–Dawley rats were divided into five groups of six: Group A was the sham group, group B was the  myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury (MIRI) group; the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD)  was ligated and, after 30 min of ischemia, reperfusion was conducted for 120 min, group C was the limb  ischemia preconditioning (LIPC) group; the femoral artery was blocked continuously for 5 min, and  sustainable reperfusion was carried out for 5 min, and this procedure was repeated thrice. The MIRI experiment was carried out on the fourth day after consecutive preconditioning for 3 days. The surgical  procedure was the same as with the MIRI model. Group D was the LY294002 pretreatment group: 15 min before reperfusion, ischemic rats underwent pretreatment with LY294002. The final group was the  LIPC+LY294002 group; after limb ischemia preconditioning, rats underwent LY294002 pretreatment 15  min before reperfusion. Expression of ADP and adiponectin receptor 1 (ADPR1) messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), PI3k and p-Akt protein increased significantly in the myocardial tissue of the LIPC group in  comparison with that in the sham group. This finding suggests that limb ischemic preconditioning  increased the expression of ADP in the myocardial tissue of rats with myocardial ischemia–reperfusion  injury. It also demonstrated that ADP activated PI3k by the ADP/PI3k/Akt signaling pathway to increase the phosphorylation of the effector protein Akt.Key words: Limb ischemic preconditioning, ischemia–reperfusion injury, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase  (PI3k), protein kinase (p-Akt), signal transduction

    The application of additive manufacturing technology in pelvic surgery: A bibliometrics analysis

    With the development of material science, additive manufacturing technology has been employed for pelvic surgery, addressing the challenges, such as the complex structure of the pelvis, difficulty in exposing the operative area, and poor visibility, of the traditional pelvic surgery. However, only limited studies have been done to review the research hotspots and trends of the additive manufacturing technology applied for pelvic surgery. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the literatures related to additive manufacturing technology in pelvic surgery by a bibliometrics analysis and found that additive manufacturing technology is widely used in several aspects of preoperative diagnosis, preoperative planning, intraoperative navigation, and personalized implants for pelvic surgery. Firstly, we searched and screened 856 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) with TS = (3D printing OR 3D printed OR three-dimensional printing OR additive manufacturing OR rapid prototyping) AND TS = (pelvis OR sacrum OR ilium OR pubis OR ischium OR ischia OR acetabulum OR hip) as the search strategy. Then, 565 of these were eliminated by evaluating the titles and abstracts, leaving 291 pieces of research literature whose relevant information was visually displayed using VOSviewer. Furthermore, 10 publications with high citations were selected by reading all publications extensively for carefully evaluating their Titles, Purposes, Results, Limitations, Journal of affiliation, and Citations. Our results of bibliometric analysis demonstrated that additive manufacturing technology is increasingly applied in pelvic surgery, providing readers with a valuable reference for fully comprehending the research hotspots and trends in the application of additive manufacturing technology in pelvic surgery

    Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Depression: A Systematic Review

    Background: Depression is a common mental disorder worldwide. Psychological treatments and antidepressant medication are the usual treatments for depression. However, a large proportion of patients with depression do not respond to the treatments. In 2005, Vagus nerve stimulation was approved for the adjunctive long-term treatment of chronic or recurrent depression in adult patients experiencing a major depressive episode who had failed to respond to four or more adequate antidepressant treatments. However, the efficacy of VNS for treating depression remains unclear. Accordingly, we performed a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of VNS.Methods: We conducted a systematic review in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Systematic search was performed in the database of Pubmed, Embase, CENTRAL, and Web of science for identifying the suitable trials. Suicidal rate was considered as the primary outcome in this review.Result: Only two randomized sham controlled add-on studies including 255 cases (134 with VNS treatment and 121 control cases) were included in this review. None of the studies reported suicidal rate. We performed a qualitative analysis and it is suggested that there was no significant statistic difference between VNS and sham VNS on the score of 24-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD24) (MD: −2.40, 95% CI: −7.90 to 3.10). Similar findings were also reported on improvement percentage of HAMD24 (MD: 1.00, 95%CI: −6.06 to 8.06), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) (MD: 4.70, 95%CI: −2.98 to 12.38) and 30 item Inventory of Depressive Symptomalogy-Self-Report (IDS-SR30) (MD: 4.9, 95%CI: −1.89 to 11.69). However, a marginal difference of Beck Depression Inventory self-rating score was detected between the real and sham treatment (MD: 7.80, 95% CI: 0.34 to 15.26). Aminor effect of IDS-SR30was also found in real VNS group (RR: 2.33, 95% CI: 1.07 to 5.10).Conclusion: The efficacy and safety of VNS for depression is still unclear. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of VNS

    Effects of Yifukang Oral Liquid on Chemotherapy- and Radiotherapy-Induced Toxic and Side Effects of Myelosuppression, Leucopenia and Gastrointestinal Tract Disturbances

    Purpose: To investigate the effects of Yifukang oral liquid (YFKOL) on chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-induced myelosuppression, leucopenia and gastrointestinal tract disturbances.Methods: The effects of YFKOL on myelosuppression, leucopenia and gastrointestinal tract disturbances were assessed by cyclophosphamide- and Co60-induced leucopenia in mice, copper sulfate-induced emesis in pigeons, ethanol-induced gastric mucosal lesions in rats, gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion in mice.Results: In cyclophosphamide- and Co60-induced leucopenia assays, the mean white blood cell count (82.6 and 90.1 × 109/L; 7.3 and 8.2 × 109/L, respectively) and thighbone marrow granulocytes (66.1 % and 67.4 %; 60.8 and 66.5 %, respectively) were significantly (p < 0.05) increased after treatment with YFKOL (15 and 30 mL/kg), compared with the respective control (68.2 and 4.7 × 109/L; 58.2 and 53.1 %). In emesis, gastric mucosal lesions, gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion assays, the mean frequency of emesis (30.8 and 22.3 times, respectively) and ulcer index (39.6 and 26.5, respectively) significantly (p < 0.05) decreased, and the mean gastric emptying (25.0 and 24.0 %) and intestinal propulsion (81.9 and 82.8 %) were significantly (p < 0.05) promoted after treatment with YFKOL (10 and 20 mL/kg), compared with the respective control (54.7 times, 62.8, 42.0 and 68.9 %).Conclusion: YFKOL may suppress chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-induced myelosuppression, leucopenia and gastrointestinal tract disturbances.Keywords: Yifukang oral liquid, Gastrointestinal tract disturbances, Leucopenia, Myelosuppression, Tumor, Chemotherapy, Radiotherap

Insect-repellent packaging, as a traditional and emerging physical insect prevention method, has increasingly attracted widespread attention among people. The types and characteristics of food packaging materials, the types and application of insect-repellent packaging, the research and evaluating methods of insect-repellent packaging at home and abroad, and the problems existing in the practical application of insect-repellent packaging were reviewed, and the development trend of insect-repellent packaging was prospected, so as to provide reference information for the scientific and efficient use of insect-repellent packaging, development of new insect-repellent packaging to control stored grain insects in the future
