On the Value Stand of Environmental Law

It is found from the different perspectives of the analysis on anthropocentrism and ecocentrism that strong anthropocentrism is difficult to get out of the excessive self-consciousness that is arrogant to the natural environment, and that there are inextricable theoretical defects and practical problems in ecocentrism. The confrontation between the two has promoted anthropocentrism to evolve to produce a new and more reasonable value-weak anthropocentrism. Weak anthropocentrism can not only overcome the various drawbacks in strong anthropocentrism and ecocentrism, but also avoid damaging the principal status of human and trigger human respect to natural environment; It can not only help to build advanced and mature criminal legislation on environmental pollution, but also actively guide human to make use of environment rationally; It can not only help effectively punish the criminal behavior of serious pollution of environment, and will not hinder human needs of survival and social development. In the sense, the environmental value of weak anthropocentrism is the best choice for the criminal legislation on environmental pollution

Comparative Study of Legislations on Major Domestic and Foreign Environmental Pollution Crimes

Surveying across Germany, Japan, The United Kingdom, and the United States’ environmental pollution crime legislations, there are similarities and differences, and these similar or different models or regulations reflect their different environmental states, legal cultures, legal traditions, political systems, levels of economic development, etc., and have achieved positive results in their own countries. Having been inspired by these countries which are sophisticated in the trend of environmental protection and mature in environmental criminal legislation, our country should also discover a path that is suitable for us according to our own environmental pollution problems and practices. It is suggested that major environmental pollution crimes’ relevant regulations are to be further modified from the perspective of how things ought to be. Possible flaws in the legislative techniques aside, fundamentally speaking, a lot of the other problems or deficiencies stem from just what kind of value system major environmental pollution crimes are systematically constructed and responsibilities allocated. Only by coming from a correct and sound value system can there be an effective guidance to the scientific design of the regulations of these types of crimes and to have it be effective in practice when preventing and remedying major environmental pollutions.

Interviewing During a Tight Job Market

Various tips for interviewing for PhD graduates, seeking an academic position in a research university in Asia or North America are discussed. It is suggested that having the dissertation done before interviews gives a large degree of relief on one\u27s mind. It is found that to be practical about job research package and keep a close eye on applications increases the confidence level. It is also observed that the questions during the talk provides opportunity to clarify and strengthen the talk and show this ability during the interview

Terrestrial water storage changes over the Pearl River Basin from GRACE and connections with Pacific climate variability

AbstractTime-variable gravity data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite mission are used to study terrestrial water storage (TWS) changes over the Pearl River Basin (PRB) for the period 2003–Nov. 2014. TWS estimates from GRACE generally show good agreement with those from two hydrological models GLDAS and WGHM. But they show different capability of detecting significant TWS changes over the PRB. Among them, WGHM is likely to underestimate the seasonal variability of TWS, while GRACE detects long-term water depletions over the upper PRB as was done by hydrological models, and observes significant water increases around the Longtan Reservoir (LTR) due to water impoundment. The heavy drought in 2011 caused by the persistent precipitation deficit has resulted in extreme low surface runoff and water level of the LTR. Moreover, large variability of summer and autumn precipitation may easily trigger floods and droughts in the rainy season in the PRB, especially for summer, as a high correlation of 0.89 was found between precipitation and surface runoff. Generally, the PRB TWS was negatively correlated with El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events. However, the modulation of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) may impact this relationship, and the significant TWS anomaly was likely to occur in the peak of PDO phase as they agree well in both of the magnitude and timing of peaks. This indicates that GRACE-based TWS could be a valuable parameter for studying climatic influences in the PRB

Fast Sampling generative model for Ultrasound image reconstruction

Image reconstruction from radio-frequency data is pivotal in ultrafast plane wave ultrasound imaging. Unlike the conventional delay-and-sum (DAS) technique, which relies on somewhat imprecise assumptions, deep learning-based methods perform image reconstruction by training on paired data, leading to a notable enhancement in image quality. Nevertheless, these strategies often exhibit limited generalization capabilities. Recently, denoising diffusion models have become the preferred paradigm for image reconstruction tasks. However, their reliance on an iterative sampling procedure results in prolonged generation time. In this paper, we propose a novel sampling framework that concurrently enforces data consistency of ultrasound signals and data-driven priors. By leveraging the advanced diffusion model, the generation of high-quality images is substantially expedited. Experimental evaluations on an in-vivo dataset indicate that our approach with a single plane wave surpasses DAS with spatial coherent compounding of 75 plane waves.Comment: submitted to ISBI 202
