The role of cinema on the tourist destination image formation process
Tourism literature widely acknowledges that images of tourist destinations are a product of all the experiences of an individual, being influenced by a series of information sources. The movies figure amongst this sources, and as an autonomous information agent, which in theory are not associated with the tourist market interests, they transmit information that is perceived as more reliable than conventional publicity. Thus, cinema acts directly on the organic image, creating and perpetuating associations about the places it depicts on the collective imagery. The present article aims to provide a bibliographical state of the art about the influence of films on the tourist destinations’ image, contextualizing the cinema on it’s formation process, as well as the cognitive and phsycological processes involved
Goat's milk allergy
BACKGROUND: Goat's milk (GM) allergy not associated with allergy to cow's milk (CM) is a rare disorder. Caseins have been implicated has the major allergens eliciting symptoms. METHODS: We report the case of a 27 years-old female patient that experienced two episodes of urticaria related to ingestion of goat's cheese (GC). She tolerated CM, dairy products and sheep cheese. Skin prick tests were performed with GM, CM, bovine casein and alpha -lactalbumin and fresh milk and GC. Serum specific IgE to GM, CM and its fractions, and GM and CM immunobloting assays with inhibition were also evaluated. RESULTS: Skin tests were positive to GM and GC and negative to CM. GM immunoblot showed an IgE-binding 14 kDa band that was totally inhibited after serum pre-incubation with GM. CONCLUSIONS: Allergens other than casein can be involved in allergy to GM. Even small quantities of protein can elicit symptoms
The design of a digital coincidence-detection trigger system for a RPC-based pet
A complex task for PET cameras is the design of an appropriate coincidence-detection trigger as it usually encompasses coincidences in a large number of channels and tight time specifications. Those requirements are even greater for a resistive plate chamber (RPC)-based detector technology as the time window specification is quite small (in the order of a few hundred picoseconds) and the number of coincidence-channels can be quite large (more than 100 in a large camera). In this work we discuss on-going work aimed at implementing the coincidence-detection algorithm inside a FPGA along with the necessary TDCs. The use of the developed solution in a first prototype of an RPC-based small animal PET and its scalability to the case of a human, all-body, PET, is discussed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Instability of current sheets and formation of plasmoid chains
Current sheets formed in magnetic reconnection events are found to be
unstable to high-wavenumber perturbations. The instability is very fast: its
maximum growth rate scales as S^{1/4} v_A/L, where L is the length of the
sheet, v_A the Alfven speed and S the Lundquist number. As a result, a chain of
plasmoids (secondary islands) is formed, whose number scales as S^{3/8}.Comment: revtex, 4 pages, 4 figure
X-point collapse and saturation in the nonlinear tearing mode reconnection
We study the nonlinear evolution of the resistive tearing mode in slab
geometry in two dimensions. We show that, in the strongly driven regime (large
Delta'), a collapse of the X-point occurs once the island width exceeds a
certain critical value ~1/Delta'. A current sheet is formed and the
reconnection is exponential in time with a growth rate ~eta^1/2, where eta is
the resistivity. If the aspect ratio of the current sheet is sufficiently
large, the sheet can itself become tearing-mode unstable, giving rise to
secondary islands, which then coalesce with the original island. The saturated
state depends on the value of Delta'. For small Delta', the saturation
amplitude is ~Delta' and quantitatively agrees with the theoretical prediction.
If Delta' is large enough for the X-point collapse to have occured, the
saturation amplitude increases noticeably and becomes independent of Delta'.Comment: revtex4, 4 pages, 18 figure
