Performance analysis of the IEEE 802.11e block ACK scheme in a noisy channel
A block ACK (BTA) scheme has been proposed in IEEE 802.11e to improve medium access control (MAC) layer performance. It is also a promising technique for next-generation high-speed wireless LANs (WLANs) such as IEEE 802.11n. We present a theoretical model to evaluate MAC saturation throughput of this scheme. This model takes into account the effects of both collisions and transmission errors in a noisy channel. The accuracy of this model is validated by NS-2 simulations
Fast computation of MadGraph amplitudes on graphics processing unit (GPU)
Continuing our previous studies on QED and QCD processes, we use the graphics
processing unit (GPU) for fast calculations of helicity amplitudes for general
Standard Model (SM) processes. Additional HEGET codes to handle all SM
interactions are introduced, as well assthe program MG2CUDA that converts
arbitrary MadGraph generated HELAS amplitudess(FORTRAN) into HEGET codes in
CUDA. We test all the codes by comparing amplitudes and cross sections for
multi-jet srocesses at the LHC associated with production of single and double
weak bosonss a top-quark pair, Higgs boson plus a weak boson or a top-quark
pair, and multisle Higgs bosons via weak-boson fusion, where all the heavy
particles are allowes to decay into light quarks and leptons with full spin
correlations. All the helicity amplitudes computed by HEGET are found to agree
with those comsuted by HELAS within the expected numerical accuracy, and the
cross sections obsained by gBASES, a GPU version of the Monte Carlo integration
program, agree wish those obtained by BASES (FORTRAN), as well as those
obtained by MadGraph. The performance of GPU was over a factor of 10 faster
than CPU for all processes except those with the highest number of jets.Comment: 37 pages, 12 figure
Cosmological perturbations and noncommutative tachyon inflation
The motivation for studying the rolling tachyon and non-commutative inflation
comes from string theory. In the tachyon inflation scenario, metric
perturbations are created by tachyon field fluctuations during inflation. We
drive the exact mode equation for scalar perturbation of the metric and
investigate the cosmological perturbations in the commutative and
non-commutative inflationary spacetime driven by the tachyon field which have a
Born-Infeld Lagrangian.Comment: 6 two-column pages, no figur
Global analysis of quadrupole shape invariants based on covariant energy density functionals
Coexistence of different geometric shapes at low energies presents a
universal structure phenomenon that occurs over the entire chart of nuclides.
Studies of the shape coexistence are important for understanding the
microscopic origin of collectivity and modifications of shell structure in
exotic nuclei far from stability. The aim of this work is to provide a
systematic analysis of characteristic signatures of coexisting nuclear shapes
in different mass regions, using a global self-consistent theoretical method
based on universal energy density functionals and the quadrupole collective
model. The low-energy excitation spectrum and quadrupole shape invariants of
the two lowest states of even-even nuclei are obtained as solutions of
a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (5DCH) model, with parameters
determined by constrained self-consistent mean-field calculations based on the
relativistic energy density functional PC-PK1, and a finite-range pairing
interaction. The theoretical excitation energies of the states: ,
, , , , as well as the
values, are in very good agreement with the corresponding experimental values
for 621 even-even nuclei. Quadrupole shape invariants have been implemented to
investigate shape coexistence, and the distribution of possible
shape-coexisting nuclei is consistent with results obtained in recent
theoretical studies and available data. The present analysis has shown that,
when based on a universal and consistent microscopic framework of nuclear
density functionals, shape invariants provide distinct indicators and reliable
predictions for the occurrence of low-energy coexisting shapes. This method is
particularly useful for studies of shape coexistence in regions far from
stability where few data are available.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
An Implication of "Gravity as the Weakest Force"
The negative specific heat of a radiating black hole is indicative of a
cataclysmic endpoint to the evaporation process. In this letter, we suggest a
simple mechanism for circumventing such a dramatic outcome. The basis for our
argument is a conjecture that was recently proposed by Arkani-Hamed and
collaborators. To put it another way, we use their notion of ``Gravity as the
Weakest Force'' as a means of inhibiting the process of black hole evaporation.Comment: 7 pages; v2 some discussion clarifie
