Geometry Dependent Current-Voltage Characteristics of ZnO Nanostructures: A Combined Nonequilibrium Green’s Function and Density Functional Theory Study

Current-voltage I-V characteristics of different ZnO nanostructures were studied using a combined nonequilibrium Green’s function and density functional theory techniques with the two-probe model. It was found that I-V characteristics of ZnO nanostructures depend strongly on their geometry. For wurtzite ZnO nanowires, currents decrease with increasing lengths under the same applied voltage conditions. The I-V characteristics are similar for single-walled ZnO nanotubes and triangular cross section ZnO nanowires but they are different from I-V characteristics of hexagonal cross section ZnO nanowires. Finally, our results are discussed in the context of calculated transmission spectra and densities of states

A Study on Translation Methods in Yu Bufan’s Version of Sherlock Holmes Series From the Perspective of Skopos Theory: A Case Study of A Study in Scarlet

Sherlock Holmes Series as a prominent detective novel has many Chinese translation editions. Among the numerous versions, Yu Bufan’s version is the first single-translator-finished translation of complete works of Sherlock Holmes Series in the history of the Chinese Sherlock Holmes Series’ translation. He states that this version pursues the beauty of words. By studying the first volume A Study in Scarlet, this paper analyzes the four translation methods applied in this translation version including imitation, free translation, literal translation and idiomatic translation. And this paper is focused on deducing the intention and the effect of using these translation methods under the guidance of three rules of skopos theory. The conclusion is drawn that skopos theory can guide translators’ translation activities. By choosing different translation methods, the translation is full of language beauty and can be well-accepted by its target readers.

Effect of building gap to improve pedestrian comfort levels and ventilation

Rapid rates of urbanization have resulted into increased concerns of urban environment. Amongst them, wind and thermal comfort levels for pedestrians have attracted research interest. In this regards, urban wind environment is seen as a crucial components that can lead to improved thermal comfort levels for pedestrian population. High rise building in modern urban setting causes high levels of turbulence that renders discomfort to pedestrians. Additionally, a higher frequency of high ris e buildings at a particular region acts as a shield against the wind flow to the lower buildings beyond them resulting into higher levels of discomfort to users or residents. Studies conducted on developing wind flow models using Computational Fluid Dynami cs (CFD) simulations have revealed improvement in interval to height ratios can results into improved wind flow within the simulation grid. However, high value and demand for land in urban areas renders expansion to be an impractical solution. Nonetheless, innovative utilization of architectural concepts can be imagined to improve the pedestrian comfort levels through improved wind permeability.
