Die Oden Salomos: Einleitungsfragen und Forschungsgeschichte

    Get PDF

There are quite a few typographical errors and omissions in Michael Lattke's ARC-funded German commentary on the Odes of Solomon. Most of them were discovered by Marianne Ehrhardt while she translated the manuscript into English for the Hermeneia commentary series: Lattke, Michael (2009). Odes of Solomon : a commentary. Signaling Pathways Regulating the Pathophysiological Responses of Astrocytes: A Focus on the IKK/NF-κB System

    Get PDF
Astrocytes are highly responsive to changes in their microenvironment, and undergo prominent functional alterations in pathological conditions, a process called astrogliosis. In such conditions, astrocytes can gain immune cell-like functions, form glial scars and promote brain repair and regeneration. However, astrogliosis can also contribute to disease pathogenesis by exacerbating inflammation and perturbing the normal physiological functions of astrocytes. The IKK/NF-κB signaling system is a master regulator of inflammation, cell survival and differentiation, which also controls astrocyte functions, in particular their responses to pathological conditions. Activation of IKK/NF-κB signaling in astrocytes is a key driver of neuroinflammation and astrogliosis, which can interfere with normal brain development and homeostasis and can aggravate various central nervous system (CNS) pathologies. Besides IKK/NF-κB signaling, several other signaling pathways regulate pathophysiological responses of astrocytes, in particular hypertrophy, proliferation and the reactivation of neural stem cell-like properties of astrocytes. Further dissection of the role of these signaling pathways in the control of physiological functions and pathophysiological plasticity of astrocytes will reveal new insights into the pathogenesis of neurological diseases and might indicate new neuroprotective and regenerative therapeutic approaches

Two New Strumigenys F. Smith (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) from Montane Forests of Ecuador

    Get PDF
Two new species from the myrmicine ant genus Strumigenys found in cloud forests above 2000 m in southern Ecuador are described and illustrated. S. lojanensis n. sp. is a member of the gundlachi complex described from 8 workers and 2 queens. S. madrigalae n. sp. is a member of the schulzi group described from 1 worker and 1 queen. Characters that permit separation from closely appearing species are presented. The gundlachi group of Strumigenys now has at least 5 species known from andean cloud forests above 2000 m in northern South America

PREPARATION WITH A "SOMERSAULT SIMULATOR" FOR LEARNING A NEW TASK WITH YOUNG DIVERS

    Get PDF
In diving it is important to learn different difficult kinds of somersaults. Before young divers perform a new task for the first time they prepare with various exercises and the help of different apparatus. By using a "somersault simulator" five young divers were prepared for a new task in six training sessions. After the special training three divers did the task under real conditions. Their performance was compared with other divers, which did not train with the "somersault simulator". Altogether we can report, that there was no significant effect of the special "simulator" training on preparation for the water entry or actual diving performance. One explanation was the amount of practice with the "simulator" (four times training and two times (pre and post) test) was not enough for positive effects on diving performance

Changes in Weight, Body Image Perception and Self-Efficacy: A Study on Italian Adolescents during the Pandemic Period

    Get PDF
The lockdown period in Italy, due to Covid-19 government restrictions, caused sedentary behavior and a reduction in physical activity, with an increase in body weight and a change in body perception. Body image includes beliefs about one's appearance. Women tend to exhibit poor body image compared to men; if we consider adolescence, this difference tends to be greater. In addition, only a small percentage of adolescents believe their body image to be adequate. Given that adolescence represents one of the periods with the highest level of physical change, including changes in weight, height, and body shape, we wanted to study how self-efficacy can be affected by body image. Studies have shown that self-efficacious students tend to be more persistent in the face of unexpected difficulties, particularly important in the current pandemic conditions. In our study, we analyze the relationship between the variation of perceived weight after two months of lockdown, and Self-efficacy, mediated by body image perception in a sample of Italian adolescents. Simple mediation analyses were conducted using PROCESS 3.5 for SPSS 27. Two-hundred and fifty high school students from northern Italy took part in the study (82% female, with a mean age of 16 years ±1,43). The data confirmed a partial mediation effect of body image perception. These results highlight how body image assumes significance for one of the most relevant developmental tasks for adolescents related to evaluation and self-perception affecting their self-efficacy, which is also a predictor of their academic achievement. We hope that studies like these can support the importance of interventions aimed at promoting well-being among adolescents, specifically regarding aspects of physical and motivational self-evaluation

South-east European countries are receiving support from "western" institutions in developing their education system structures. One professional involved in development cooperation in the field of adult education is dvv international, the German Adult Education Association's institute for international cooperation. By evaluating work in Romania, Serbia and Kosovo, this article reflects on strategic decisions resulting from this work. It demonstrates that it is correct to take account of differences between countries by operating countryspecific project offices. At the same time, however, it is necessary to work as a network, especially in view of EU accession. There should also be no other alternative than to link lobbying work at a political level with activities at a meso-level (e.g. developing professionalism) and a micro-level (e.g. target group work). finally, the article turns to the particular difficulties of achieving sustainable results

VISUAL PERCEPTION TRAINING FOR YOUTH DIVERS WITH A "SOMERSAULT SIMULATOR"

    Get PDF
In diving a vertical entry into the water is very important. Divers control their orientation in space by integrating sensory information from the visual, vestibular, and somatosensory system. Scientists and coaches have discussed two important types of control in diving: visual control and time control (inner clock model). Visual control is based on visual perception. The aim of the present study was to analyse effects of visual perception training. Divers should use visual perception for the control of the movement from tucked to straight position of the body for the entry into the water. A measuring unit with a "Somersault Simulator" was used for practicing visual perception. Ten divers took part in the study and demonstrated the capacity of visual perception. The results of visual performance development were not conclusive and depend on the task

Eine uebersehene Textvariante in den Oden Salomos (OdSal 36,1a)

In one of the two Syriac manuscripts of the Odes of Solomon, the first line of Ode 36 reads clearly as follows: "I rested on/upon the Spirit of the Lord" (Codex Nitriensis [N], MS. Add. 14538, British Museum). Since 1909 the same reading has been assumed for the other manuscript (Codex Harris [H], Cod. Syr. 9, John Rylands Library). However, it has been overlooked that this particular manuscript also reveals a slight correction, turning the meaning of this verse upside down. Moreover, this varia lectio probably reflects the original Greek reading and gives this verse a christological perspective: "The Spirit of the Lord rested on/upon me" (cf. Isaiah 11:2 and 61:1)
