Control over few photon pulses by a time-periodic modulation of the photon-emitter coupling
We develop a Floquet scattering formalism for the description of
quasistationary states of microwave photons in a one-dimensional waveguide
interacting with a nonlinear cavity by means of a periodically modulated
coupling. This model is inspired by the recent progress in engineering of
tunable coupling schemes with superconducting qubits. We argue that our model
can realize the quantum analogue of an optical chopper. We find strong periodic
modulations of the transmission and reflection envelopes in the scattered
few-photon pulses, including photon compression and blockade, as well as
dramatic changes in statistics. Our theoretical analysis allows us to explain

Off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed Co-based amorphous ribbons
The off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons
was measured in the low-frequency range using a pick-up coil wound around the
sample. The asymmetric two-peak behavior of the field dependence of the
off-diagonal impedance was observed. The asymmetry is attributed to the
formation of a hard magnetic crystalline phase at the ribbon surface. The
experimental results are interpreted in terms of the surface impedance tensor.
It is assumed that the ribbon consists of an inner amorphous region and surface
crystalline layers. The coupling between the crystalline and amorphous phases
is described through an effective bias field. A qualitative agreement between
the calculated dependences and experimental data is demonstrated. The results
obtained may be useful for development of weak magnetic-field sensors.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure

The Journal of Cooperatives (formally titled the Journal of Agricultural Cooperation) was published as a print journal from 1986 to 2003. The journal resumed publication as an electronic journal in 2007. This article provides a short history of the journal, analyzes trends in authorship, institution, content, research method and intended audience, and considers issues relating to electronic publication. The environmental "trade balance" between Scotland and the rest of the UK : an inter-regional input-output and SAM analysis
We use an inter-regional input-output (IO) and social accounting matrix (SAM) pollution attribution framework to serve as a platform for sub-national environmental attribution and trade balance analysis. While the existence of significant data problems mean that the quantitative results of this study should be regarded as provisional, the inter-regional economy-environment IO and SAM framework for Scotland and the rest of the UK (RUK) allows an illustrative analysis of some very important issues. There are two key findings. The first is that there are large environmental spillovers between the regions of the UK. This has implications in terms of the devolution of responsibility for achieving targets for reductions in emissions levels and the need for policy co-ordination between the UK national and devolved governments. The second finding is that whilst Scotland runs an economic trade deficit with RUK, the environmental trade balance relationship for the main greenhouse gas, CO2, runs in the opposite direction. In other words, the findings of this study suggest the existence of a CO2 trade surplus between Scotland and the rest of the UK. This suggests that Scotland is bearing a net loss in terms of pollutants as a result of inter-union trade. However, if Scotland can carry out key activities, such as electricity generation, using less polluting technology, it is better for the UK as a whole if this type of relationship exists. Thus, the environmental trade balance is an important part of the devolution settlement
