Light emitting mechanisms in an alternated fluorene EDOT copolymer-A theoretical and photophysical study
The synthesis and photophysical characterization of a PPV type copolymer containing a fluorene derivative alternated with ethylenedioxythiophene units, poly[2,5-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-alt-(9,9'-dihexil-2,7-fluorene)] (LaPPS32) are presented and discussed. The photophysical studies along with theoretical simulation demonstrated that the main factor responsible for the polymer behavior is the progressive conformational twisting upon addition of each repeating unit to the polymer chain, together with intra- and intermolecular energy transfer processes. The main electroluminescence parameters are also discussed in connection with the photophysical behavior. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.134670677INE

Photophysical properties of a fluorene-bipyridine copolymer and its complexes with europium
Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)The synthesis and structural characterization of a europium complexed fluorene-bipyridine copolymer are described. A level of ion insertion of 80% in molar basis was achieved, and theoretical calculations showed that it required a twist of 179 degrees (49 kJ) between the pyridine units. Spectroscopy data showed that no electronic coupling between the main backbone and the complexation sites had occurred, but these hindered the interchain aggregation observed in the non complexed polymer. Preliminary electroluminescence studies showed that the EL and PL spectra are consistent, and that the ion had a trapping effect in the charge transport. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Metronomic Chemotherapy in Triple-Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer: The Future Is Now?
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) shows a very bad prognosis, even in early stages of disease. Metronomic chemotherapy refers to the minimum biologically effective dose of a chemotherapy agent given as a continuous dosing regimen with no prolonged drug-free breaks that leads to antitumor activity. In the present article, we review preclinical and clinical data of metronomic administration of chemotherapy agents with or without biological agents in TNBC cell lines and patients, contextually reporting data from the VICTOR-2 study in the subgroup of patients with TNBC, in order to stimulate new ideas for the design of clinical trials in this subset of patients
