Stable and highly sensitive gas sensors based on semiconducting oxide nanobelts

characterization showed that the contacts were ohmic and the nanobelts were sensitive to
environmental polluting species like CO and NO₂ , as well as to ethanol for breath analyzers and
food control applications. The sensor response, defined as the relative variation in conductance due
to the introduction of the gas, is 4160% for 250 ppm of ethanol and 21550% for 0.5 ppm NO₂ at
400 °C. The results demonstrate the potential of fabricating nanosized sensors using the integrity of
a single nanobelt with a sensitivity at the level of a few ppb

Microscopic origin of local moments in a zinc-doped high- superconductor
The formation of a local moment around a zinc impurity in the high-
cuprate superconductors is studied within the framework of the bosonic
resonating-valence-bond (RVB) description of the model. A topological
origin of the local moment has been shown based on the phase string effect in
the bosonic RVB theory. It is found that such an moment distributes
near the zinc in a form of staggered magnetic moments at the copper sites. The
corresponding magnetic properties, including NMR spin relaxation rate, uniform
spin susceptibility, and dynamic spin susceptibility, etc., calculated based on
the theory, are consistent with the experimental measurements. Our work
suggests that the zinc substitution in the cuprates provide an important
experimental evidence for the RVB nature of local physics in the original (zinc

Nodeless superconductivity in IrPtTe with strong spin-orbital coupling
The thermal conductivity of superconductor IrPtTe
( = 0.05) single crystal with strong spin-orbital coupling was measured down
to 50 mK. The residual linear term is negligible in zero magnetic
field. In low magnetic field, shows a slow field dependence. These
results demonstrate that the superconducting gap of IrPtTe is
nodeless, and the pairing symmetry is likely conventional s-wave, despite the
existence of strong spin-orbital coupling and a quantum critical point.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Comparison of ν-support vector regression and logistic equation for descriptive modeling of Lactobacillus plantarum growth
Due to the complexity and high non-linearity of bioprocess, most simple mathematical models fail to describe the exact behavior of biochemistry systems. As a novel type of learning method, support vector regression (SVR) owns the powerful capability to characterize problems via small sample, nonlinearity, high dimension and local minima. In this paper, we developed a ν-SVR model with genetic algorithms (GA) in the pre-estimate in Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation by comparing the predicting capability of logistic model and SVR model. 5-fold cross validation technique was applied in the SVR train to avoid over-fitting. The information of SVR parameters were obtained in the generation of 150 and the optimal parameters were C= 235.8935, σ= 8.3608, ν=0.7587. Correspondingly, the logistic model parameters μmax and xmax were estimated as 0.4791 and 0.3498, respectively. The experimental results demonstrated that, SVR model excelled the logistic model based on the normalized mean square error (NMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and the Pearson correlation coefficient R. We found that the ν-SVR model optimized by genetic algorithms could be a potential monitoring method for prediction of biomass.Key words: Support vector regression, genetic algorithm, logistic model, prediction of biomass
