Identifying wave packet fractional revivals by means of information entropy

Wave packet fractional revivals is a relevant feature in the long time scale evolution of a wide range of physical systems, including atoms, molecules and nonlinear systems. We show that the sum of information entropies in both position and momentum conjugate spaces is an indicator of fractional revivals by analyzing three different model systems: (i)(i) the infinite square well, (ii)(ii) a particle bouncing vertically against a wall in a gravitational field, and (iii)(iii) the vibrational dynamics of hydrogen iodide molecules. This description in terms of information entropies complements the usual one in terms of the autocorrelation function

    Get PDF

A geometric approach to dense Cayley digraphs of finite Abelian groups

    Get PDF
We give a method for constructing infinite families of dense (or eventually likely dense) Cayley digraphs of finite Abelian groups. The diameter of the digraphs is obtained by means of the related minimum distance diagrams. A dilating technique for these diagrams, which can be used for any degree of the digraph, is applied to generate the digraphs of the family. Moreover, two infinite families of digraphs with distinguished metric properties will be given using these methods. The first family contains digraphs with asymptotically large ratio between the order and the diameter as the degree increases (moreover it is the first known asymptotically dense family). The second family, for fixed degree d = 3, contains digraphs with the current best known density.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Abelian Cayley digraphs with asymptotically large order for any given degree

Abelian Cayley digraphs can be constructed by using a generalization to Z(n) of the concept of congruence in Z. Here we use this approach to present a family of such digraphs, which, for every fixed value of the degree, have asymptotically large number of vertices as the diameter increases. Up to now, the best known large dense results were all non-constructive.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

A USB3.0 FPGA Event-based Filtering and Tracking Framework for Dynamic Vision Sensors

    Get PDF
Dynamic vision sensors (DVS) are frame-free sensors with an asynchronous variable-rate output that is ideal for hard real-time dynamic vision applications under power and latency constraints. Post-processing of the digital sensor output can reduce sensor noise, extract low level features, and track objects using simple algorithms that have previously been implemented in software. In this paper we present an FPGA-based framework for event-based processing that allows uncorrelated-event noise removal and real-time tracking of multiple objects, with dynamic capabilities to adapt itself to fast or slow and large or small objects. This framework uses a new hardware platform based on a Lattice FPGA which filters the sensor output and which then transmits the results through a super-speed Cypress FX3 USB microcontroller interface to a host computer. The packets of events and timestamps are transmitted to the host computer at rates of 10 Mega events per second. Experimental results are presented that demonstrate a low latency of 10us for tracking and computing the center of mass of a detected object.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2012-37868-C04-0

Computer vision techniques for forest fire perception

    Get PDF
This paper presents computer vision techniques for forest fire perception involving measurement of forest fire properties (fire front, flame height, flame inclination angle, fire base width) required for the implementation of advanced forest fire-fighting strategies. The system computes a 3D perception model of the fire and could also be used for visualizing the fire evolution in remote computer systems. The presented system integrates the processing of images from visual and infrared cameras. It applies sensor fusion techniques involving also telemetry sensors, and GPS. The paper also includes some results of forest fire experiments.European Commission EVG1-CT-2001-00043European Commission IST-2001-34304Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia DPI2005-0229

Spontaneous chirality via long-range electrostatic forces

We consider a model for periodic patterns of charges constrained over a cylindrical surface. In particular we focus on patterns of chiral helices, achiral rings or vertical lamellae, with the constraint of global electroneutrality. We study the dependence of the patterns' size and pitch angle on the radius of the cylinder and salt concentration. We obtain a phase diagram by using numerical and analytic techniques. For pure Coulomb interactions, we find a ring phase for small radii and a chiral helical phase for large radii. At a critical salt concentration, the characteristic domain size diverges, resulting in macroscopic phase segregation of the components and restoring chiral symmetry. We discuss possible consequences and generalizations of our model.Comment: Revtex, 4 pages, 4 figure
