Phase-Dependent Spontaneous Spin Polarization and Bifurcation Delay in Coupled Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensates
The spontaneous spin polarization and bifurcation delay in two-component
Bose-Einstein condensates coupled with laser or/and radio-frequency pulses are
investigated. We find that the bifurcation and the spontaneous spin
polarization are determined by both physical parameters and relative phase
between two condensates. Through bifurcations, the system enters into the
spontaneous spin polarization regime from the Rabi regime. We also find that
bifurcation delay appears when the parameter is swept through a static
bifurcation point. This bifurcation delay is responsible for metastability
leading to hysteresis.Comment: Improved version for cond-mat/021157
Pressure Driven Flow of Polymer Solutions in Nanoscale Slit Pores
Polymer solutions subject to pressure driven flow and in nanoscale slit pores
are systematically investigated using the dissipative particle dynamics
approach. We investigated the effect of molecular weight, polymer concentration
and flow rate on the profiles across the channel of the fluid and polymer
velocities, polymers density, and the three components of the polymers radius
of gyration. We found that the mean streaming fluid velocity decreases as the
polymer molecular weight or/and polymer concentration is increased, and that
the deviation of the velocity profile from the parabolic profile is accentuated
with increase in polymer molecular weight or concentration. We also found that
the distribution of polymers conformation is highly anisotropic and non-uniform
across the channel. The polymer density profile is also found to be
non-uniform, exhibiting a local minimum in the center-plane followed by two
symmetric peaks. We found a migration of the polymer chains either from or
towards the walls. For relatively long chains, as compared to the thickness of
the slit, a migration towards the walls is observed. However, for relatively
short chains, a migration away from the walls is observed.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figure
Discrete chaotic states of a Bose-Einstein condensate
We find the different spatial chaos in a one-dimensional attractive
Bose-Einstein condensate interacting with a Gaussian-like laser barrier and
perturbed by a weak optical lattice. For the low laser barrier the chaotic
regions of parameters are demonstrated and the chaotic and regular states are
illustrated numerically. In the high barrier case, the bounded perturbed
solutions which describe a set of discrete chaotic states are constructed for
the discrete barrier heights and magic numbers of condensed atoms. The chaotic
density profiles are exhibited numerically for the lowest quantum number, and
the analytically bounded but numerically unbounded Gaussian-like configurations
are confirmed. It is shown that the chaotic wave packets can be controlled
experimentally by adjusting the laser barrier potential.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Exact Floquet states of a driven condensate and their stabilities
We investigate the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for a classically chaotic
system, which describes an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate confined in an
optical lattice and driven by a spatiotemporal periodic laser field. It is
demonstrated that the exact Floquet states appear when the external
time-dependent potential is balanced by the nonlinear mean-field interaction.
The balance region of parameters is divided into a phase-continuing region and
a phase-jumping one. In the latter region, the Floquet states are
spatiotemporal vortices of nontrivial phase structures and zero-density cores.
Due to the velocity singularities of vortex cores and the blowing-up of
perturbed solutions, the spatiotemporal vortices are unstable periodic states
embedded in chaos. The stability and instability of these Floquet states are
numerically explored by the time evolution of fidelity between the exact and
numerical solutions. It is numerically illustrated that the stable Floquet
states could be prepared from the uniformly initial states by slow growth of
the external potential.Comment: 14 pages, 3 eps figures, final version accepted for publication in J.

PET imaging of in vivo caspase-3/7 activity following myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury with the radiolabeled isatin sulfonamide analogue [(18)F]WC-4-116
The utility of [(18)F]WC-4-116, a PET tracer for imaging caspase-3 activation, was evaluated in an animal model of myocardial apoptosis. [(18)F]WC-4-116 was injected into rats at 3 hours after a 30 min period of ischemia induced by temporary occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery in Sprague-Dawley rats. [(18)F]WC-4-116 uptake was quantified by 1) autoradiography, 2) microPET imaging studies, and 3) post-PET biodistribution studies. MicroPET imaging also assessed uptake of the non-caspase-3-targeted tracer [(18)F]ICMT-18 at 3 hours postischemia. Enzyme assays and Western blotting assessed caspase-3 activation in both at-risk and not-at-risk regions. Caspase-3 enzyme activity increased in the at-risk but not in the not-at-risk myocardium. Quantitative autoradiographic analysis of [(18)F]WC-4-116 demonstrated nearly 2-fold higher uptake in the ischemia-reperfusion (IR) versus sham animals. [(18)F]WC-4-116 microPET imaging studies demonstrated that the IR animals was similarly elevated in relation to sham. [(18)F]ICMT-18 uptake did not increase in at-risk myocardium despite evidence of caspase-3 activation. Biodistribution studies with [(18)F]WC-4-116 confirmed the microPET findings. These data indicate that the caspase-3-PET tracer [(18)F]WC-4-116 can noninvasively image in vivo caspase activity during myocardial apoptosis and may be useful for clinical imaging in humans
Radiolabeled 6-(2, 3-dichlorophenyl)-N4-methylpyrimidine-2, 4-diamine (TH287): A potential radiotracer for measuring and imaging MTH1
MTH1 (MutT homolog 1) or NUDT1 (Nudix Hydrolase 1), also known as oxidized purine nucleoside triphosphatase, has potential as a biomarker for monitoring cancer progression and quantifying target engagement for relevant therapies. In this study, we validate one MTH1 inhibitor TH287 as a PET MTH1 radiotracer. TH287 was radiolabeled with tritium and the binding of
Quasi-spin Model for Macroscopic Quantum Tunnelling between Two Coupled Bose-Einstein Condensates
The macroscopic quantum tunneling between two coupled Bose-Einstein
condensates (BEC) (radio-frequency coupled two-component BECs or two BECs
confined in a double-well potential) is mapped onto the tunneling of an
uniaxial spin with an applied magnetic field. The tunneling exponent is
calculated with an imaginary-time path-integral method. In the limit of low
barrier, the dependence of tunneling exponent on the system parameters is
obtained, and the crossover temperature from thermal regime to quantum regime
is estimated. The detailed information about the tunnelling will give help to
control population conversion between coupled BECs and realize quantum
computation with coupled BECs.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys.Rev.
Discharge protocol in acute pancreatitis: an international survey and cohort analysis
There are several overlapping clinical practice guidelines in acute pancreatitis (AP), however, none of them contains suggestions on patient discharge. The Hungarian Pancreatic Study Group (HPSG) has recently developed a laboratory data and symptom-based discharge protocol which needs to be validated. (1) A survey was conducted involving all members of the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP) to understand the characteristics of international discharge protocols. (2) We investigated the safety and effectiveness of the HPSG-discharge protocol. According to our international survey, 87.5% (49/56) of the centres had no discharge protocol. Patients discharged based on protocols have a significantly shorter median length of hospitalization (LOH) (7 (5;10) days vs. 8 (5;12) days) p < 0.001), and a lower rate of readmission due to recurrent AP episodes (p = 0.005). There was no difference in median discharge CRP level among the international cohorts (p = 0.586). HPSG-protocol resulted in the shortest LOH (6 (5;9) days) and highest median CRP (35.40 (13.78; 68.40) mg/l). Safety was confirmed by the low rate of readmittance (n = 35; 5%). Discharge protocol is necessary in AP. The discharge protocol used in this study is the first clinically proven protocol. Developing and testifying further protocols are needed to better standardize patients' care
How Graphene Is Cut upon Oxidation?
Our first principles calculations reveal that oxidative cut of graphene is
realized by forming epoxy and then carbonyl pairs. Direct forming carbonyl pair
to tear graphene up from an edge position is not favorable in energy. This
atomic picture is valuable for developing effective graphene manipulation
means. The proposed epoxy pairs may be related to some long puzzling
experimental observations on graphene oxide
