Chiral asymmetry during the EWPT from CP-violating scattering off bubble walls

We compute a net electric current during a first order EWPT arising from the asymmetric propagation of fermion chiral modes due to a CP-violating interaction with the Higgs. The interaction is quantified in terms of a CP-violating phase in the bubble wall that separate both false and true vacuum phases. Identification of large masses of citrus fruit and rice fields in eastern Spain

ERTS-1 imagery has been successfully used for the identification of large areas of citrus groves and rice fields in the Valencia region of Eastern Spain. Results are encouraging and will facilitate the elaboration of a land use map with a fair degree of definition once methods prove to be fully operational

Replica-symmetric solutions of a dilute Ising ferromagnet in a random field

We use the replica method in order to obtain an expression for the variational free energy of an Ising ferromagnet on a Viana-Bray lattice in the presence of random external fields. Introducing a global order parameter, in the replica-symmetric context, the problem is reduced to the analysis of the solutions of a nonlinear integral equation. At zero temperature, and under some restrictions on the form of the random fields, we are able to perform a detailed analysis of stability of the replica-symmetric solutions. In contrast to the behaviour of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model for a spin glass in a uniform field, the paramagnetic solution is fully stable in a sufficiently large random field

Under What Conditions Do Individuals Report Discrimination in the Workforce?

This study consists of evaluating the report of discrimination in the workplace regarding gender, race, and sexual orientation. It also explores the perceived discrimination and believed discrimination against African Americans regarding race and gender because they can influence or provide more information for the reports of discrimination in the workforce. Additionally, it evaluates if it is better for a man to work and a woman to stay home to see what groups are most and least likely to have these perceptions. The purpose is to investigate all of these regression equations and consider intersectionality. Intersectionality is one of the main components of this study in examining if Black females seems to have more obstacles and struggles in society compared to White males, Whites females, and Black males. Through my findings, it was supported with perceived discrimination, but Black males reported to most likely to perceive discrimination in the workplace with there being no relation of sexual orientation

Playing to heal: The impact of bereavement camp for children with grief.

Child bereavement is a difficult topic to explore and study because of stigmas in discussing death, and because of restrictions in doing research with young children. Thus, research in childhood bereavement is limited. This study focused on children who attended a bereavement camp after the traumatic loss of a loved one. The purpose was to understand the participants’ grief experiences. This research study used phenomenological inquiry and analysis methodology. Five female participants were interviewed for this study. In addition, participants created a sandtray world to convey their experiences at bereavement camp. The essence of participants’ experiences as revealed through verbal interviews was posttraumatic growth. In addition, the essence of participants’ experiences as revealed through their sandtray worlds was gaining a sense of support. Results of this study extend bereavement research to include the experiences of children. Further, implications for mental health professionals, counselor educators, and bereavement camps are emphasized

Technological modernization in irrigated agriculture: factors for sustainability in developing countries

Presented during the Third international conference on irrigation and drainage held March 30 - April 2, 2005 in San Diego, California. The theme of the conference was "Water district management and governance."Includes bibliographical references.Technology has much to offer to irrigated agriculture in developing countries. Many technological advances have been introduced into practice in these countries. National governments have often played an important role in this process by investing in modern equipment needed by their irrigation districts. Computers, meteorological monitoring stations, and GIS, to mention just a few examples, are used in transferred irrigation districts ranging from large to small, in different climatological and hydrological settings, and by users of varying degrees of education. At first glance, all this would appear to signal success, particularly at the end of a project. In some countries, such as Chile and Mexico, modernization efforts have helped the agricultural sector become more competitive in the global market. However, in other countries, modernization efforts and investments have failed to achieve their goals of improving agricultural production at a competitive level. Thus, there have been considerable successes, but there have also been gaps in this transfer of technology. This paper examines this troubling situation from first-hand experience, and it looks at lessons learned from experience gained in introducing technology along with water users organization in developing countries. Factors that help ensure sustainability of technological modernization in irrigated agriculture in developing countries are discussed, and suggestions are given to make investments in this modernization process more effective in the long term.Sponsored by USCID; co-sponsored by Association of California Water Agencies and International Network for Participatory Irrigation Management
