Calculation of X-Ray Signals from Karolyhazy Hazy Space-Time

    Get PDF
Karolyhazy's hazy space-time model, invented for breaking down macroscopic interferences, employs wave-like gravity disturbances. If so, then electric charges would radiate permanently. Here we discuss the observational consequences of the radiation. We find that such radiation is excluded by common experimental situations.Comment: 7 pages, PlainTe

Space-time in light of Karolyhazy uncertainty relation

    Get PDF
General relativity and quantum mechanics provide a natural explanation for the existence of dark energy with its observed value and predict its dynamics. Dark energy proves to be necessary for the existence of space-time itself and determines the rate of its stability.Comment: 5 pages, Two misprints are correcte

Gravitationally-Induced Quantum Superpopsition Reduction with Large Extra Dimensions

    Get PDF
A gravity-driven mechanism (``objective reduction'') proposed to explain quantum state reduction is analyzed in light of the possible existence of large extra dimensions in the ADD scenario. By calculating order-of-magnitude estimates for nucleon superpositions, it is shown that if the mechanism at question is correct, constraints may be placed on the number and size of extra dimensions. Hence, measurement of superposition collapse times ({\it e.g.} through diffraction or reflection experiments) could represent a new probe of extra dimensions. The influence of a time-dependent gravitational constant on the gravity-driven collapse scheme with and without the presence of extra dimensions is also discussed.Comment: 22 pp; 1 postscript figure Expanded version of previous submission To appear in Phys Rev

On Di\'osi-Penrose criterion of gravity-induced quantum collapse

It is shown that the Di\'osi-Penrose criterion of gravity-induced quantum collapse may be inconsistent with the discreteness of space-time, which is generally considered as an indispensable element in a complete theory of quantum gravity. Moreover, the analysis also suggests that the discreteness of space-time may result in rapider collapse of the superposition of energy eigenstates than required by the Di\'osi-Penrose criterion.Comment: 5 pages, no figure

Quantum Superposition of Massive Objects and Collapse Models

We analyze the requirements to test some of the most paradigmatic collapse models with a protocol that prepares quantum superpositions of massive objects. This consists of coherently expanding the wave function of a ground-state-cooled mechanical resonator, performing a squared position measurement that acts as a double slit, and observing interference after further evolution. The analysis is performed in a general framework and takes into account only unavoidable sources of decoherence: blackbody radiation and scattering of environmental particles. We also discuss the limitations imposed by the experimental implementation of this protocol using cavity quantum optomechanics with levitating dielectric nanospheres.Comment: 19 pages, 17 figure

Spontaneous Collapse of Unstable Quantum Superposition State: A Single-Particle Model of Modified Quantum Dynamics

We propose a modified dynamics of quantum mechanics, in which classical mechanics of a point mass derives intrinsically in a massive limit of a single-particle model. On the premise that a position basis plays a special role in wavefunction collapse, we deduce to formalize spontaneous localization of wavefunction on the analogy drawn from thermodynamics, in which a characteristic energy scale and a time scale are introduced to separate quantum and classical regimes.Comment: 2figs., contribution to Xth ICQO 200

    Interacting Agegraphic Dark Energy

A new dark energy model, named "agegraphic dark energy", has been proposed recently, based on the so-called K\'{a}rolyh\'{a}zy uncertainty relation, which arises from quantum mechanics together with general relativity. In this note, we extend the original agegraphic dark energy model by including the interaction between agegraphic dark energy and pressureless (dark) matter. In the interacting agegraphic dark energy model, there are many interesting features different from the original agegraphic dark energy model and holographic dark energy model. The similarity and difference between agegraphic dark energy and holographic dark energy are also discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, revtex4; v2: references added; v3: accepted by Eur. Phys. J. Planck Scale Physics of the Single Particle Schr\"{o}dinger Equation with Gravitational Self-Interaction

    Get PDF
We consider the modification of a single particle Schr\"{o}dinger equation by the inclusion of an additional gravitational self-potential term which follows from the prescription that the' mass-density'that enters this term is given by mψ(r,t)2m |\psi (\vec {r},t)|^2, where ψ(r,t)\psi (\vec {r}, t) is the wavefunction and mm is the mass of the particle. This leads to a nonlinear equation, the ' Newton Schrodinger' equation, which has been found to possess stationary self-bound solutions, whose energy can be determined exactly using an asymptotic method. We find that such a particle strongly violates superposition and becomes a black hole as its mass approaches the Planck mass.Comment: 16 pages, Revtex, No figure, Submitted to Physics Letters

Interacting model of new agegraphic dark energy: observational constraints and age problem

Many dark energy models fail to pass the cosmic age test because of the old quasar APM 08279+5255 at redshift z=3.91z=3.91, the Λ\LambdaCDM model and holographic dark energy models being no exception. In this paper, we focus on the topic of age problem in the new agegraphic dark energy (NADE) model. We determine the age of the universe in the NADE model by fitting the observational data, including type Ia supernovae (SNIa), baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and the cosmic microwave background (CMB). We find that the NADE model also faces the challenge of the age problem caused by the old quasar APM 08279+5255. In order to overcome such a difficulty, we consider the possible interaction between dark energy and dark matter. We show that this quasar can be successfully accommodated in the interacting new agegraphic dark energy (INADE) model at the 2σ2\sigma level under the current observational constraints.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures; typos corrected; version for publication in SCIENCE CHINA Physics, Mechanics & Astronom

The accelerated scaling attractor solution of the interacting agegraphic dark energy in Brans-Dicke theory

We investigate the interacting agegraphic dark energy in Brans-Dicke theory and introduce a new series general forms of dark sector coupling. As examples, we select three cases involving a linear interaction form (Model I) and two nonlinear interaction form (Model II and Model III). Our conclusions show that the accelerated scaling attractor solutions do exist in these models. We also find that these interacting agegraphic dark energy modes are consistent with the observational data. The difference in these models is that nonlinear interaction forms give more approached evolution to the standard Λ\LambdaCDM model than the linear one. Our work implies that the nonlinear interaction forms should be payed more attention.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures, accepted in Eur. Phys. J.
