High Temperature Partition Function of the Rigid String

We find that the high temperature limit of the free energy per unit length for the rigid string agrees dimensionally with that of the QCD string (unlike the Nambu-Goto string). The sign, and in fact the phase, do not agree. While this may be a clue to a string theory of QCD, we note that the problem of the fourth derivative action makes it impossible for the rigid string to be a correct description.Comment: 7 page

Argentaffin carcinoma of the terminal ileum

The purpose of this paper is to emphasise the importance of routine exploration of the abdominal viscera in all patients undergoing elective abdominal surgical procedures. We report here a case in which an unsuspected and asymptomatic argentaffin carcinoma of the small bowel was discovered in the course of hysterectomy carried out for intractable metrorrhagia. The operative procedure consisted of total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. This was followed by resection of part of the terminal ileum 10 cm. on each side of the tumour together with a wedge of mesentery which included the infiltrated area.peer-reviewe

Contact-less measurements of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in the magnetically ordered state of CeAgSb2_2 and SmAgSb2_2 single crystals

Shubnikov - de Haas oscillations were measured in single crystals of highly metallic antiferromagnetic SmAgSb2_{2} and ferromagnetic CeAgSb2_{2} using a tunnel diode resonator. Resistivity oscillations as a function of applied magnetic field were observed via measurements of skin depth variation. The effective resolution of Δρ20\Delta\rho\simeq20 pΩ\Omega allows a detailed study of the SdH spectra as a function of temperature. The effects of the Sm long - range magnetic ordering as well as its electronic structure (4f4f-electrons) on the Fermi surface topology is discussed
