Suaeda foliosa Moq. (Caryophyllales: Amaranthaceae) first record of the genus and species for Valparaíso Region, Chile

Indexación: Web of Science; Scielo.BACKGROUND: The purpose of this paper is to present the finding of Suaeda foliosa in El Yali National Reserve, Chile. With this finding, the southern limit of the distribution is displaced from the current position at 31° S, 300 km southward. FINDINGS: In this work, we found this species on the banks of the Colejuda lagoon, 33° 45' S, which belongs to a body of hypersaline seasonal water found inside the protected area distinguished as a Ramsar site (No. 878). The determination of the genus and species was achieved by comparing with herbarium material deposited in the National Herbarium SGO Natural History Museum in Santiago de Chile. Once we identified the species, the collected material was deposited in the referred Herbarium (SGO 163975). pH, salinity, and conductivity of the water column and soil adjacent the three protected lagoons are compared, discussing the unique conditions of the lagoon Colejuda that may explain the presence of S. foliosa only in their environment and not in other water bodies. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that El Yali wetland system harbors the S. foliosa southernmost population of the Americas.http://ref.scielo.org/xv9yc

Bullying in students belonging to immigrant families in Primary Schools

Ponencia de 6th International Conference on Intercultural Education “Education and Health: From a transcultural perspective”The bullying has affected many educational systems. The scientific community has studied the phenomenon and has developed many studies attempting to explain their etiology and operation. Administrations have developed policy and legislative initiatives, to sort out this need and social problems. This paper tries to investigate the bullying phenomenon in Andalusia. Students who are immigrants and who are in the 4th level of Elementary Education, do not know the Spanish language The study took data from Andalusian students who participated in the 2011 edition of the PIRLS assessment (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study). This evaluation has involved more than 4300 students in 150 selected schools. The data are about the level of reading comprehension. Previously, their mother tongues have been identified. The results show a higher rate of bullying in immigrant students than in the rest of the population, a lower yield. However the results don’t imply that the student had been victims of bullying. There is a need to sort out these problems and we must continue investigating them in order to understand and provide solution

Human activity recognition from object interaction in domestic scenarios

This paper presents a real time approach to the recognition of human activity based on the interaction between people and objects in domestic settings, specifically in a kitchen. Regarding the procedure, it is based on capturing partial images where the activity takes place using a colour camera, and processing the images to recognize the present objects and their location. For object description and recognition, a histogram on rg chromaticity space has been selected. The interaction with the objects is classified into four types of possible actions; (unchanged, add, remove or move). Activities are defined as recipes, where objects play the role of ingredients, tools or substitutes. Sensed objects and actions are then used to analyze in real time the probability of the human activity performed at a particular moment in a continuous activity sequence.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Modelos de daño concentrados para la simulación numérica del colapso de pórticos planos

En este artículo se propone un método para el análisis no lineal de estructuras aporticadas basado en los conceptos de la Mecánica de la Degradación (Continuum Damage Mechanics). El método consiste en la introducción de un conjunto de variables internas, los índices de daño, que miden la pérdida de rigidez de cada una de las barras de la estructura. La dependencia de estas variables con respecto a la historia de deformaciones de cada barra se describe mediante las leyes de evolución de los índices de daño. El problema a resolver está constituido por las ecuaciones matriciales clásicas del cálculo de estructuras y las leyes de evolución.Peer Reviewe

Empoderamiento Usuaria-Trabajadora Social dentro del proceso de atención en mujeres que vivieron situación de violencia conyugal

A las mujeres es importante observarlas como un ser único; capaz de generar recursos para salir de su situación de violencia conyugal, y uno de esos múltiples recursos que se observa en el presente trabajo, es el empoderamiento, es decir, mujeres que adquieren control sobre sí mismas (Kebeer 1998). Para Kebeer (1998: 32) el empoderamiento no es un proceso lineal con un comienzo y un fin definitivo, puesto que, es diferente para cada mujer: según sus vidas, contexto e historia. En el proceso de empoderamiento también influye la subordinación en los niveles; personal, familiar, comunal y los de organización social en los que cada mujer se halle envuelta. El empoderamiento que posee una mujer para Casique (2004:41) es el resultado de una serie de condiciones individuales y contextuales, y se puede definir en base a elementos como: el aporte económico al hogar, el control que tiene sobre las decisiones familiares, y la libertad de movimiento. La empatía que se genere en la interrelación Usuaria- Trabajadora Social también es un recurso determinante para el proceso de atención, como resultado de diferentes investigaciones Rifkin (2010:129) afirma que somos seres empáticos por naturaleza y el altruismo es la expresión máxima de empatía. Cabe mencionar que el papel de la Trabajadora Social es generar estos recursos de empoderamiento en la usuaria y hacia ella misma, así como un cierto nivel de empatía que permita la interacción profesional. Cada interacción social nos marca cierta forma de comportamiento, a través de un rol determinado, según Parsons se nos asigna cierto rol y esperamos que los demás desempeñen el rol que les corresponde, el que exige la situación en la cual nos encontramos. Tal juego de roles hace posible que el trato social se desarrolle ordenadamente y sin fricciones (Prieto, 2008:73)

Structure-dependent radiative corrections to phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decays

Current predictions for the ratio of phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decay rates exceed the corresponding experimental value in about five standard deviations. By far, the dominant sources of isospin breaking to this ratio are the phase-space (52%) and the electromagnetic radiative (4.3%, computed within scalar QED) corrections. Here we estimate the effects of the electromagnetic structure of kaons and other model-dependent contributions into the radiative corrections.Comment: 8 pages, Latex, 2 .eps figure

LA RED DE APOYO ENTRE MUJERES QUE VIVIERON SITUACIÓN DE VIOLENCIA CONYUGAL

La red de apoyo se considera como la suma de todas las relaciones que una persona percibe como significativas, contribuye a su propio reconocimiento como individuo, constituye una de las claves centrales de la experiencia de la identidad de bienestar, hábitos de cuidado de la salud y capacidad de adaptación a una crisis (Chadi, 2000 y Sluzki, 1996). En el documento se comprende las redes de apoyo desde la categorización de Sluzki (1996) que las divide en formales e informales, dichos apoyos suelen ser significativos para las mujeres que vivieron situación de violencia conyugal, siendo la madre la red informal con mayor peso significativo para dichas mujeres. El apoyo que brindan las redes formales e informales a las mujeres que viven situación de violencia conyugal es de suma importancia. Debido a que las redes pueden “liberar a las mujeres mediante un patrón de soluciones para los problemas de su vida” (Luckman, 1996: 119). Las mujeres que están inmersas en una situación de violencia, deben aferrarse a su red social, dicha red es la suma de todas las relaciones que percibe como significativas, siendo primordial el apoyo entre mujeres (Sluzki, 1996)
