Nucleon Decay Matrix Elements from Lattice QCD

We present a GUT-model-independent calculation of hadron matrix elements for all dimension-six operators associated with baryon number violating processes using lattice QCD. Our results cover all the matrix elements required to estimate the partial lifetimes of (proton,neutron)→\to(π,K,η\pi,K,\eta) +(νˉ,e+,μ+{\bar \nu},e^+,\mu^+) decay modes. We point out the necessity of disentangling two form factors that contribute to the matrix elements; previous calculations did not make the separation, which led to an underestimate of the physical matrix elements. With a correct separation, we find that the matrix elements have values 3-5 times larger than the smallest estimates employed in phenomenological analyses of the nucleon decays, which gives stronger constraints on GUT models. We also find that the values of the matrix elements are comparable with the tree-level predictions of chiral Lagrangian.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures as eps-file. Lattice QCD Calculation of Flavor Singlet Matrix Elements and N-N Scattering Lengths

We report on our recent study of flavor singlet matrix elements calculated with the wall source method without gauge fixing. Results are presented for the mass difference between η′\eta^{\prime} and pseudoscalar octet mesons, the π\pi-N σ\sigma term and the proton axial vector matrix elements. An exploratory calculation of the N-N scattering lengths is also discussed including a phenomenological study with one-boson exchange potentials.Comment: 12 pages, latex source-file, 5 figures as epsf-file, talk presented at ''QCD on massively parallel computers'' (Yamagata, Japan, March 16-18 1995

Full QCD calculation of neutron electric dipole moment with the external electric field method

We have calculated the neutron electric dipole moment (NEDM) in the presence of the CP violating θ\theta term in lattice QCD with 2-flavor dynamical clover quarks, using the external electric field method. Accumulating a large number of statistics by the averages over 16 different source points and over forward and backward nucleon propagators, we have obtained non-zero signals of neutron and proton EDM beyond one standard deviation at each quark mass in full QCD. We have investigated the quark mass dependence of nucleon EDM in full QCD, and have found that nucleon EDM in full QCD does not decrease toward the chiral limit, as opposed to the theoretical expectation. We briefly discuss possible reasons for this behavior.Comment: 27 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables, reference added, tyops corrected, published versio

    News on Disconnected Diagrams

We present evidence for disconnected contributions to the σπN\sigma_{\pi N} term and the flavor singlet axial coupling gA0g_A^0 of the proton on full QCD configurations, which are obtained by means of improved stochastic estimator techniques. Furthermore we discuss results from the fermionic determination of the topological charge of the QCD vacuum (in the spirit of the Athiya-Singer theorem) again achieved with stochastic estimator methods. It turns out that this approach provides an monitor for the tunneling efficiency of the HMC on QCD with dynamical Wilson fermions which is independent on the pure gluonic method that implies cooling.Comment: LATTICE98(algorithms) 3 pages, 3 figure

The Eta-prime and Cooling with Staggered Fermions

We present a calculation of the mass of the eta-prime meson using quenched and dynamical staggered fermions. We also discuss the effects of "cooling" and suggest its use as a quantitative tool.Comment: 4 pages, LaTeX with 7 EPS figs, contribution to Lattice 9
