    Obesity is an important risk factor for a number of chronic diseases that impose a huge burden on individuals and society. Recently it has become clear that adipose tissue-secreted products may play a significant role in mediating many obesity-related diseases including diabetes. Thus, in addition to being an energy depot, the adipocyte is a highly active cell, secreting a plethora of factors with profound effects on a number of organs and systems. The study of these factors and their endocrine effects has become a rapidly evolving and dynamic area of endocrinology. One paradigm for explaining the deleterious effects of adipokines is related to the sheer increase in adipose tissue mass in obesity. When preadipocytes differentiate to become mature adipocytes, they acquire the ability to synthesize numerous proteins, including cytokines, growth factors, and hormones that are involved in overall energy homeostasis and various paracrine effects. In health, these proteins do not spill over significantly into the circulation. In obesity, the massive increase in fat mass leads to a significant increase in circulation of many adipose tissue secreted factors that may have pathogenic effects. For example, the increase in circulating angiotensin II in obesity is related at least in part due to excess adiposity and may mediate hypertension (1). In recent years, adipose tissue has been found to be a major source of many proteins that may directly contribute to vascular injury, diabetes, and atherogenesis (2). These proinflammatory adipokines include TNF-α, IL-6, leptin, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, angiotensinogen, and resistin, among many others. In contrast, the adipokine adiponectin confers protection against inflammation, atherogenesis, and obesity-linked insulin resistance

    Privacy of the outsourced data is one of the major challenge.Insecurity of the network environment and untrustworthiness of the service providers are obstacles of making the database as a service.Collection and storage of personally identifiable information is a major privacy concern.On-line public databases and resources pose a significant risk to user privacy, since a malicious database owner may monitor user queries and infer useful information about the customer.The challenge in data privacy is to share data with third-party and at the same time securing the valuable information from unauthorized access and use by third party.A Private Information Retrieval(PIR) scheme allows a user to query database while hiding the identity of the data retrieved.The naive solution for confidentiality is to encrypt data before outsourcing.Query execution,key management and statistical inference are major challenges in this case.The proposed system suggests a mechanism for secure storage and retrieval of private data using the secret sharing technique.The idea is to develop a mechanism to store private information with a highly available storage provider which could be accessed from anywhere using queries while hiding the actual data values from the storage provider.The private information retrieval system is implemented using Secure Multi-party Computation(SMC) technique which is based on secret sharing.     We present HIGGINS, an engine for high quality Knowl- edge Acquisition (KA), placing special emphasis on its ar- chitecture. The distinguishing characteristic and novelty of HIGGINS lies in its special blending of two engines: An automated Information Extraction (IE) engine, aided by semantic resources, and a game-based, Human Computing engine (HC). We focus on KA from web data and text sources and, in particular, on deriving relationships between enti- ties. As a running application we utilise movie narratives, using which we wish to derive relationships among movie characters

    Tomographic measurement of nonclassical radiation states

    We propose to experimentally test the nonclassicality of quantum states through homodyne tomography. For single-mode states we check violations of inequalities involving the photon-number probability. For two-mode states we test the nonclassicality by reconstructing some suitable number-operator functions.     Can re-entrance be observed in force induced transitions?

    A large conformational change in the reaction co-ordinate and the role of the solvent in the formation of base-pairing are combined to settle a long standing issue {\it i.e.} prediction of re-entrance in the force induced transition of DNA. A direct way to observe the re-entrance, i.e a strand goes to the closed state from the open state and again to the open state with temperature, appears difficult to be achieved in the laboratory. An experimental protocol (in direct way) in the constant force ensemble is being proposed for the first time that will enable the observation of the re-entrance behavior in the force-temperature plane.     On the polar decomposition of right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces

    In this article we prove the existence of the polar decomposition for densely defined closed right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces: If TT is a densely defined closed right linear operator in a quaternionic Hilbert space HH, then there exists a partial isometry U0U_{0} such that T=U0TT = U_{0}|T|. In fact U0U_{0} is unique if N(U0)=N(T)N(U_{0}) = N(T). In particular, if HH is separable and UU is a partial isometry with T=UTT = U|T|, then we prove that U=U0U = U_{0} if and only if either N(T)={0}N(T) = \{0\} or R(T)={0}R(T)^{\bot} = \{0\}.Comment: 17 page
