Splenic Artery Aneurysm Presenting as Extrahepatic Portal Vein Obstruction: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Splenic artery aneurysms are the most common visceral aneurysm occuring predominantly in females. They are usually asymptomatic, and the symptomatic presentation includes chronic abdominal pain of varied severity or an acute rupture with hypotension. Splenic artery aneurysm causing extrahepatic portal hypertension is very rare and is due to splenic vein thrombosis that develops secondary to compression by the aneurysm. We report one such rare presentation of splenic artery aneurysms in a pregnant female with the features of EHPVO (variceal bleed, hypersplenism) treated by splenectomy along with excision of the aneurysm

Domestic fish marketing in India - changing structure, conduct, performance and policies

    Get PDF
This study has been conducted in all the major coastal states and some selected inland states to understand the domestic marketing of fish in India. The total marketing costs of auctioneer, wholesaler, retailer, vendor, marine fishermen cooperative society and contractor/freshwater fishermen cooperative society have been found to be Re 0.98, Rs 8.89, Rs 6.61, Rs 4.50, Rs 6.00 and Rs 3.51, respectively. The marketing efficiencies for Indian major carps (IMC), sardine and seer fish have been found to vary from 34 per cent to 74 per cent, depending on the length of market channel. The marketing efficiency has been found more in the case of marine species than freshwater species, since the latter travel longer distances from the point of production to consumption centre, passing many intermediaries as compared to the former. The fishermanā€™s share in consumerā€™s rupee has shown variations across species, marketing channels and markets. The infrastructure facilities at most of the surveyed landing centres, fishing harbours and wholesale and retail markets have been found grossly inadequate and poorly maintained. The study has highlighted the need for formulating a uniform market policy for fishes for easy operation and regulation so that the countryā€™s fish production is efficiently managed and delivered to the consuming population, ensuring at the same time remunerative prices to the fishers.Marketing,

A simple acetone-drying protocol was adopted to replace the lyophilization step while isolating genomic DNA from Aspergillus mycelia. This DNA is suitable for PCR, restriction enzyme digestion and Southern blot analysis with digoxigenin-labeled DNA probes. Acetone drying/ preservation can be a useful method in the molecular analysis of fungal DNA samples

Direct observation of 4+ to 2+ gamma transition in 8Be

The low lying states in 8^8Be are believed to have a two-alpha cluster structure and hence a large intrinsic quadrupole deformation. An earlier calculation showed a large collective enhancement in gamma transition probability between the low lying states leading to a 4+^+ to 2+^+ gamma branch of āˆ¼10āˆ’7\sim10^{-7} and a resonant radiative cross section of 134 nb for the Ī±+Ī±\alpha+\alpha entrance channel. We report here the first experimental evidence for this transition through a Ī³āˆ’Ī±āˆ’Ī±\gamma-\alpha-\alpha coincidence measurement in the reaction 4^4He(Ī±,Ī±Ī³\alpha,\alpha \gamma)4^4He using a gas target. The measured cross sections on and off the 4+^+ resonance are 165 Ā±\pm 41 (stat) Ā±\pm35 (sys) nb and 39 Ā±\pm 25 (stat) Ā±\pm7 (sys) nb, respectively.Comment: Total 4 pages, 4 figures, in RevTeX format, submitted to PR

Integration of iron ore deposit evaluation and mine plan for selecting cost effective beneficiation operations towards improved resource utilisation: Experience at Tata Steel

    Get PDF
In the recent past a paradigm shift in terms of resource utilization and beneficiation practices is experienced by the Indian mining and mineral sector. Depleting iron ore reserves coupled with increasing demand for low-alumina iron ore fines to improve blast furnace performance in terms of productivity and reduced slag rate necessitate intensive beneficiation of iron ore. The task is even difficult for Indian iron ores which are generally high in iron content and at the same time characterized by aluminous gangue and thereby calls for capital investment of higher order for beneficiation. In another direction, any beneficiation means rejecting some mined ore as waste for obtaining the desired product grade and involves costs. Hence, beneficiation option has to be used judiciously. Towards this, the enabler available is characterization and assessment of geological resource to explore the options of segregation, scheduling, sequencing and blending. Joda East Iron Mines (JEIM), which caters to approximately 45% of iron ore requirement of Tata Steel plant in Jamshedpur, and has its ambitious plan for upgrading existing beneficiation facilities in the form of ā€˜Total Beneficiationā€™. The paper describes the judicious beneficiation and effective utilization efforts made, in the light of characterization and assessment of deposit, mine planning over last 10 years as experienced by JEIM plant and also discuss the importance of blending of processed ores in achieving despatchable product grades to meet customer requirement while optimizing overall ore resource utilization. JEIM has modified to earlier only washing plant to present two beneficiation circuits, namely Wet and Dry Processing plants, to take care of off - and high grade ores, respectively. The Dry processing plant is quite simple, comprising crushing and dry screening with no tailings/wastes. Off grade material is concentrated through primary and secondary crushing followed by screening and oversize crushing and re-screening, washing and sizing, scrubbing, classification in classifier and hydrocyclone, with a overall weight recovery of ~87%. The journey in improving product quality while optimizing plant production in JEIM relates to changes in operational philosophy which basically could be related as ā€œidentifying correct methods of ore dressing for correct oreā€ in line with deposit ratio

Ograničenja ovog predloženog problema uključuju jednadžbe balansiranja snage, ograničenja napona sabirnice, ukupne i pojedinačne granice harmonijskog izobličenja specificiranog normom IEEE-519. Problem je rijeÅ”en primjenom tehnike optimizacije pomoću algoritma optimizacije roja čestica. Rezultati simulacije dobiveni su primjenom MATPOWER/MATLAB u sustavima ispitivanja sabirnice IEEE 30 i IEEE 57, a rezultati dokazuju učinkovitost predloženog pristupa.Distributed Generation (DG) units are also called Dispersed Generation, Decentralized Generation and Embedded Generation. They are normally small generating plants, connected directly to either distribution side or customer side. The installation of inverter-based distributed generation (DG) has increased rapidly in recent years. This higher penetration level may result in the increased level of harmonics, which could exceed the permissible harmonic distortion level. The penetration level of DG is restricted by harmonic distortion, because of the nonlinear current injected by inverter based DG units. In this work, the maximum DG penetration level is determined, by considering the harmonic limits. The harmonics are determined by using the Decoupled Harmonic Power Flow (DHPF) approach. The constraints of this proposed problem include power balance equations, bus voltage limits, total and individual harmonic distortion limits specified by IEEE-519 standard. The problem is solved by using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm based optimization technique. Simulation results are obtained by MATPOWER/MATLAB in IEEE 30 and IEEE 57 bus test systems and the results prove the effectiveness of this proposed approach
