An Effective Private Data storage and Retrieval System using Secret sharing scheme based on Secure Multi-party Computation

Privacy of the outsourced data is one of the major challenge.Insecurity of the network environment and untrustworthiness of the service providers are obstacles of making the database as a service.Collection and storage of personally identifiable information is a major privacy concern.On-line public databases and resources pose a significant risk to user privacy, since a malicious database owner may monitor user queries and infer useful information about the customer. The challenge in data privacy is to share data with third-party and at the same time securing the valuable information from unauthorized access and use by third party.A Private Information Retrieval(PIR) scheme allows a user to query database while hiding the identity of the data retrieved. The naive solution for confidentiality is to encrypt data before outsourcing.Query execution, key management and statistical inference are major challenges in this case. The proposed system suggests a mechanism for secure storage and retrieval of private data using the secret sharing technique. The idea is to develop a mechanism to store private information with a highly available storage provider which could be accessed from anywhere using queries while hiding the actual data values from the storage provider. The private information retrieval system is implemented using Secure Multi-party Computation(SMC) technique which is based on secret sharing. Multi-party Computation enable parties to compute some joint function over their private inputs. The query results are obtained by performing a secure computation on the shares owned by the different servers.Comment: Data Science & Engineering (ICDSE), 2014 International Conference, CUSA

Numerical study on energy absorbing characteristics of thin-walled tube under axial and oblique impact

AbstractEnergy absorbing characteristics (EAC) of thin wall tube during the impact are important in the automobile and aerospace industries. In this paper, energy absorbing characteristics such as mean force, peak force, energy absorption and crash force efficiency (CFE) of three different cross-sections (square, rectangular and circular) at three different thicknesses (2mm, 2.5mm and 4mm) were analyzed. The analysis was accomplished using ABAQUS/EXPLICIT, and aluminum alloy (AA6063) was used as a shell material. The result of impact (or) crash-worthiness against axial load indicates that the circular cross section of 2.5mm thickness is optimum. During the oblique (15°, 30°, 45°) impact, increasing the angle leads to less energy absorption. Also, Multilinear regression analysis was carried out to predict the energy absorption characteristics at 90°

A Study on Importance of Women Participants in Higher Education: A Case Study of Karnataka, India

    Get PDF
Education is a fundamental human right and it is necessary, irrespective of gender, to achieve the goal of basic education for all. There is limited representation of women in many sectors of Indian society; however, women form a higher percentage of college professors in Karnataka. Women\u27s support of one another plays an important role in higher education and they can balance both professional and personal life. Women enter the teaching profession because of the flexibility in time, which helps them manage both professional and personal lives simultaneously. Women are working in all the sectors, i.e., education, medical, engineering, transportation, etc., but they continue to face gender discrimination as most professions are dominated by men. Women have proven themselves to be mentally strong as they work hard and successfully manage both family life and professional space together. The present study focuses on the important role that women play in higher education, constraints faced by them in the teaching profession as well as problems faced while balancing professional and personal lives. For the survey, open-ended research questionnaires were framed. The study concludes that participation of women in higher education plays a vital role. The study suggests remedial measures to overcome constraints faced by females in the profession of teaching. Hence, the present paper focuses on the importance of women in higher education and what problems they are facing in higher education. It also throws light on the balance between personal and professional lives of women

Role of isoflavones and its derivatives on the growth of Pseudomonas putida and Escherichia coli

Two naturally occurring isoflavones genistine and biochanin - A, and their dihydro derivatives (isoflavones) as well as nine perhydroginated isoflavones (isoflavanes) were tested for their effects on mycelial growth of two soil bacteria viz., Pseudomonas putida and Escherichia coli. All the isoflavonenoids of the biochanin - A series showed the genistine isoflavane and the other isoflavanes with two hydroxyl groups and one methoxy groups are toxic, while isoflavones with two and one methoxy group were almost inactive. Genistein, a radio protective soy isoflavone and protein kinase inhibitor, blocks the invasion of pathogenic bacteria in mammalian epithelial cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the direct effect of genistein on the survival and growth of the probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri and selected opportunistic bacteria in vitro as a prelude to in vivo use for managing post irradiation sepsis. The opportunistic bacterial enteropathogens viz., Escherichia coli, Shigella sonnei, and Staphylococcus aureus as well as Klebsiella pneumoniae and the non-pathogenic organism, Bacillus anthracis (Sterne) were evaluated. The latter two bacteria are found in the environment and may be of concern in irradiated individuals. A standard in vitro test was employed to evaluate the direct effect of genistein on the bacteria

ASSESSMENT OF WATER QUALITY OF THATIPUDI RESERVOIR OF VIZIANAGARAM DISTRICT OF ANDHRA PRADESH

The authors present work deals with the assessment of the water quality of the water samples collected from Thatipudi reservoir situated in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, by analyzing some selected physico-chemical parameters and chosen heavy metals. Water quality parameters such as pH, EC, DO, COD, BOD, TDS, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, chloride, nitrite, phosphate, carbonate, bicarbonate and heavy metals such as zinc, manganese, lead and chromium were analyzed for the water samples collected from the reservoir. The results were compared with the standard values prescribed by IS 10500. The parameters such as SAR, RSC, and Mg hazardous were analyzed and it was found that all these values were within the prescribed limit value. Saturation index values of the water samples analyzed were found to be in the range of 0.3-0.84 indicating, Water is supersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and scale forming may occur, but non corrosive..  KEYWORDS:Dams, Thatipudi reservoir water quality, physico-chemical charactersÂ

Infrastructural Determinants of Tourism in India

This paper investigates the significance of infrastructure as a factor in destination development. The classical demand for international tourism function is extended to include a proxy for infrastructure. An application involving India is presented whereby total tourist arrivals as well as arrivals from Europe/America, Asia and Africa are modeled. The findings show that tourists are sensitive to the infrastructure of India, particularly those from Europe/America and Asia. Tourism infrastructure, income of tourists, distance, and relative prices are important ingredients in their own respect in the tourism demand equatio

Cross-species testing and utility of microsatellite loci in Indirana frogs

    Get PDF
Background Microsatellite loci are widely used in population and conservation genetic studies of amphibians, but the availability of such markers for tropical and subtropical taxa is currently very limited. In order to develop resources for conservation genetic studies in the genus Indirana, we tested amplification success and polymorphism in 62 previously developed microsatellite loci, in eight Indirana species - including new candidate species. Developing genomic resources for this amphibian taxon is particularly important as it is endemic to the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot, and harbours several endangered species. Findings The cross-species amplification success rate varied from 11.3 % to 29.0 % depending on the species, with 29 - 80 % of the amplifying loci being polymorphic. A strong negative correlation between cross-species amplification success (and polymorphism) and genetic distance separating target from source species was observed. Conclusions Our results provide additional genetic support for the existence of genetically divergent cryptic species within the genus Indirana. The tested markers should be useful for population and conservation genetic studies in this genus, and in particular, for species closely related to the source species, I. beddomii.Peer reviewe
