    USE OF THE STATE-TRAIT ANXIETY INVENTORY WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS IN CHINA: ISSUES WITH REACTION TIMES

    The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Form Y; STAI-Y) is a balanced scale with a complex factor structure. Using survey data from children and adolescents in Jiangxi Province, China (N = 1,275), we conducted confirmatory factor analysis to clarify the number of factors in this instrument and to investigate the relationship between reaction time (RT) and anxiety. Results revealed the following 3 dimensions for the STAI-Y: anxiety absent, anxiety present, and general anxiety. Compared with those who answered all the questions (58%), those who missed questions (42%) had a lower education level, a longer RT, and higher scores for items indicating the presence of state or trait anxiety. Our results could provide innovative directions for the improvement and expansion of research using the STAI-Y with children and adolescents

    Symmetry classes of dissipative topological insulators with edge dark state

    We classify the dissipative topological insulators (TIs) with edge dark states (EDS) by using the 38-fold way of non-Hermitian systems in this paper. The dissipative dynamics of these quadratic open fermionic systems is captured by a non-Hermitian single-particle matrix which contains both the internal dynamics and the dissipation, refereed to as damping matrix XX. And the dark states in these systems are the eigenmodes of XX which the eigenvalues' imaginary part vanishes. However, there is a constraint on XX, namely that the modes in which the eigenvalues' imaginary parts are positive are forbidden. In other words, the imaginary line-gap of XX is ill-defined, so the topological band theory classifying the dark states can not be applied to XX. To reveal the topological protection of EDS, we propose the double damping matrix X~=diag(X,X)\tilde{X} = \text{diag}\left( X, X^* \right), where the imaginary line-gap is well defined. Thus, the 38-fold way can be applied to X~\tilde{X}, and the topological protection of the EDS is uncovered. Different from previous studies of EDS in purely dissipative dynamics, the EDS in the dissipative TIs are robust against the inclusion of Hamiltonians. Furthermore, the topological classification of X~\tilde{X} not only reflects the topological protection of EDS in dissipative TIs but also provides a paradigm to predict the appearance of EDS in other open free fermionic systems.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

    Background Geckos are among the most species-rich reptile groups and the sister clade to all other lizards and snakes. Geckos possess a suite of distinctive characteristics, including adhesive digits, nocturnal activity, hard, calcareous eggshells, and a lack of eyelids. However, one gecko clade, the Eublepharidae, appears to be the exception to most of these ‘rules’ and lacks adhesive toe pads, has eyelids, and lays eggs with soft, leathery eggshells. These differences make eublepharids an important component of any investigation into the underlying genomic innovations contributing to the distinctive phenotypes in ‘typical’ geckos. Findings We report high-depth genome sequencing, assembly, and annotation for a male leopard gecko, Eublepharis macularius (Eublepharidae). Illumina sequence data were generated from seven insert libraries (ranging from 170 to 20 kb), representing a raw sequencing depth of 136X from 303 Gb of data, reduced to 84X and 187 Gb after filtering. The assembled genome of 2.02 Gb was close to the 2.23 Gb estimated by k-mer analysis. Scaffold and contig N50 sizes of 664 and 20 kb, respectively, were compble to the previously published Gekko japonicus genome. Repetitive elements accounted for 42 % of the genome. Gene annotation yielded 24,755 protein-coding genes, of which 93 % were functionally annotated. CEGMA and BUSCO assessment showed that our assembly captured 91 % (225 of 248) of the core eukaryotic genes, and 76 % of vertebrate universal single-copy orthologs. Conclusions Assembly of the leopard gecko genome provides a valuable resource for future comptive genomic studies of geckos and other squamate reptiles

    Coexistence of Logarithmic and SdH Quantum Oscillations in Ferromagnetic Cr-doped Tellurium Single Crystals

    We report the synthesis of transition-metal-doped ferromagnetic elemental single-crystal semiconductors with quantum oscillations using the physical vapor transport method. The 7.7 atom% Cr-doped Te crystals (Cr_Te) show ferromagnetism, butterfly-like negative magnetoresistance in the low temperature (< 3.8 K) and low field (< 0.15 T) region, and high Hall mobility, e.g., 1320 cm2 V-1 s-1 at 30 K and 350 cm2 V-1 s-1 at 300 K, implying that Cr_Te crystals are ferromagnetic elemental semiconductors. When B // c // I, the maximum negative MR is -27% at T = 20 K and B = 8 T. In the low temperature semiconducting region, Cr_Te crystals show strong discrete scale invariance dominated logarithmic quantum oscillations when the direction of the magnetic field B is parallel to the [100] crystallographic direction and show Landau quantization dominated Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations for B // [210] direction, which suggests the broken rotation symmetry of the Fermi pockets in the Cr_Te crystals. The findings of coexistence of multiple quantum oscillations and ferromagnetism in such an elemental quantum material may inspire more study of narrow bandgap semiconductors with ferromagnetism and quantum phenomena.Comment: 25 pages, 25 figure

    Effect of Corilagin on the Proliferation and NF- κ

    Background. This study is to explore the effect of corilagin on the proliferation and NF-κB signaling pathway in U251 glioblastoma cells and U251 glioblastoma stem-like cells. Methods. CD133 positive U251 glioblastoma cells were separated by immunomagnetic beads to isolate glioblastoma stem-like cells. U251 cells and stem-like cells were intervened by different corilagin concentrations (0, 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL) for 48 h, respectively. Cell morphology, cell counting kit-8 assay, flow cytometry, dual luciferase reporter assay, and a western blot were used to detect and analyze the cell proliferation and cell cycle and investigate the expression of IKBα protein in cytoplasm and NF-κB/p65 in nucleus. Results. Corilagin inhibited the cell proliferation of U251 cells and their stem-like cells and the inhibition role was stronger in U251 stem-like cells (P<0.05). The cell cycle was arrested at G2/M phase in the U251 cells following corilagin intervention; the proportion of cells in G2/M phase increased as the concentration of corilagin increased (P<0.05). The U251 stem-like cells were arrested at the S phase following treatment with corilagin; the proportion of cells in the S phase increased as the concentration of corilagin increased (P<0.05). The ratio of dual luciferase activities of U251 stem-like cells was lower than that of U251 cells in the same corilagin concentration. With increasing concentrations of corilagin, the IKBα expression in cytoplasm of U251 cells and U251 stem-like cells was increased, but the p65 expression in nucleus of U251 cells and U251 stem-like cells was decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion. Corilagin can inhibit the proliferation of glioblastoma cells and glioblastoma stem-like cells; the inhibition on glioblastoma stem-like cell proliferation is stronger than glioblastoma cells. This different result indicates that the effect of corilagin on U251 cells and U251 stem-like cells may have close relationships with mechanism of cell cycle and NF-κB signaling pathway; however, the real antitumor mechanism of corilagin is not yet clear and requires further study
