Ultra-shallow nitrogen plasma implantation for ultra-thin silicon oxynitride (SiOxNy) layer formation, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1
The radiation damage caused by low energy r.f. plasmas has not been, to our knowledge, studied so far in the case of symmetric planar plasma reactors that are usually used for PECVD processes. The reason is that, unlike nonsymmetricalRIE reactors, such geometry prevents, basically, high-energy ion bombardment of the substrate. In this work, we present the results of experiments in which we have studied the influence of plasma processing on the state of silicon surface.Very low temperature plasma oxidation has been used as a test of silicon surface condition. The obtained layers were then carefully measured by spectroscopic ellipsometry, allowing not only the thickness to be determined accurately, but also the layer composition to be evaluated. Different plasma types, namely N2, NH3 and Ar, were used in the first stage of the experiment, allowing oxidation behaviour caused by the exposure to those plasma types to be compared in terms of relative differences. It has been clearly proved that even though the PECVD system is believed to be relatively safe in terms of radiation damage, in the case of very thin layer processing(e.g., ultra-thin oxynitride layers) the effects of radiation damage may considerably affect the kinetics of the process and the properties of the formed layers
Photoelectric measurements of the local values of the effective contact potential difference in the MOS structure, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1
We have shown that using focused UV laser beam in photoelectric methods it is possible to measure local φMS values over the gate area of a single MOS structure. The φMS distribution is such that its values are highest far away from the gate edges regions, lower in the vicinity of gate edges and still lower in the vicinity of gate corners. Examples of measurement results and description of the measurement system are presented. The dependence of the φMS value on the exposure time and the power density of UV light is discussed
Comparison of the barrier height measurements by the Powell method with the ΦMS measurement results, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1
n this work, we have compared the barrier height measurements carried out using the Powell method with the photoelectric effective contact potential difference (&phiMS) measurement results. The photoelectric measurements were performed on the samples that were previously applied in the investigation of the influence of stress on the duration of annealing in nitrogen. This paper shows that the results of barrier height measurement using the Powell method differ significantly from the &phi(MS) measurement results
Effects of stress annealing on the electrical and the optical properties of MOS devices, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1
In this paper we show the results of a study of the effects of high-temperature stress annealing in nitrogen on the refraction index of SiO2 layers and electrical properties in metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) devices. We have experimentally characterized the dependence of the reduced effective contact potential difference (ECPD), the effective oxide charge density (Neff), and the mid-gap interface trap density (Dit) on the annealing conditions. Subsequently, we have correlated such properties with the dependence of the refraction index and oxide stress on the annealing conditions and silicon dioxide thickness. Also, the dependence of mechanical stress in the Si-SiO2 system on the oxidation and annealing conditions has been experimentally determined. We consider the contributions of the thermal-relaxation and nitrogen incorporation processes in determining changes in the SiO2 layer refractive index and the electrical properties with annealing time. This description is consistent with other annealing studies carried out in argon, where only the thermal relaxation process is present
Skuteczna alkoholowa ablacja guza insulinowego trzustki, obserwacja 4-letnia. Opis przypadku i przegląd literatury
Introduction: EUS-guided ethanol ablation of insulinoma is a new method of treatment of this neuroendocrine tumour. Ablation is recommended in patients who are poor surgical candidates or refuse surgery. We present a case of an 81-year-old female with symptomatic insulinoma, treated successfully with EUS-guided alcoholic ablation, along with a literature review including 28 other previously described cases. The effectiveness, safety of the therapy, and technical procedure-related issues are summarised. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first described case of successful insulinoma EUS-guided ablation in Poland.
Material and methods: We searched the PubMed/Medline database to identify cases of EUS-guided alcoholic ablation. Our analysis included 14 articles (case reports or case series), with a total of 27 patients and 31 tumours described, published before February 2017.
Results: The described tumours were relatively small (mean 13 mm), and the most common location was pancreatic head. The mean ethanol volume injected to the tumour was 1.8 ml and the concentration of infused alcohol varied from 95% to 98%.Side effects were observed in six cases; apart from one, they were mild and self-limiting. There was only one severe adverse event, treated conservatively with success. The median follow-up was 14.4 months (2–55 months). In all described cases ablation led to improvement of the symptoms and normalisation of glycaemia.
Conclusions: The EUS-guided alcoholic ablation of insulinoma is a safe and effective method of treatment in patients who are poor surgical candidates and/or refuse surgery. The adverse effects are rare and mild and were observed when the volume of injected ethanol was equal to or above 3.0 ml. However, the data is limited, the follow-up is relatively short, and prospective studies are needed to confirm the long-term effects of treatment. The study shows also that there are important procedural differences (concentration and volume of alcohol, needle gauge, number of sessions) between the endoscopists, which should be specified.Wstęp: Przedstawiono 81-letnią chorą z objawowym guzem insulinowym głowy trzustki. Pacjentka, z uwagi na liczne choroby współistniejące, została zdyskwalifikowana z leczenia chirurgicznego. Leczona diazoksydem, ciągłymi wlewami z glukozy, analogami somatostatyny bez istotnej poprawy(obserwowano działania niepożądane). Następnie pod kontrolą EUS wykonano alkoholową ablację zmiany. Nie obserwowano powikłań. Odstawiono diazoksyd, obserwując normalizację glikemii. Pacjentka w 4-letniej obserwacji pozostaje bez objawów klinicznych hipoglikemii. Według naszej wiedzy jest to pierwszy opisany przypadek skutecznej alkoholowej ablacji guza insulinowego w Polsce. W pracy przeprowadzono przegląd literatury i podsumowanie wcześniej przeprowadzonych i opisanych zabiegów alkoholowej ablacji guzów insulinowych, ze szczególnym naciskiem na skuteczność i bezpieczeństwo, czas obserwacji po leczeniu i szczegóły techniczne przeprowadzenia procedury.
Materiał i metody: Przeszukano bazę Pub Med/Medline, aby zidentyfikować opisane przypadki alkoholowej ablacji guza insulinowego trzustki. Do analizy włączono 14 artykułów opublikowanych przed końcem lutego 2017, w których opisano łącznie 27 przypadków i 31 guzów insulinowych.
Wyniki: Opisane guzy były stosunkowo małymi zmianami (średnio 13 mm), ich najczęstsza lokalizacją była głowa trzustki. Średnia objętość podawanego alkoholu to 1,8 ml, a stężenie wynosiło 95–98%. Efekty uboczne obserwowano w 6 przypadkach, poza jednym były one łagodne i ustępowały samoistnie. Zaobserwowano tylko jedno poważne powikłanie leczone zachowawczo z sukcesem. Średni czas obserwacji pacjenta wyniósł 14,4 miesiąca (od 2 do 55 miesięcy). U wszystkich opisanych chorych ablacja doprowadziła do ustąpienia objawów i normalizacji glikemii.
Variability of the local ΦMS values over the gate area of MOS devices, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1
The local value distributions of the effective contact potential difference (ECPD or the øMS factor) over thegate area of Al-SiO2-Si structures were investigated for thefirst time. A modification of the photoelectric øMS measurement method was developed, which allows determination of local values of this parameter in different parts of metaloxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures. It was found that the øMS distribution was such, that its values were highest far away from the gate edge regions (e.g., in the middle of a square gate), lower in the vicinity of gate edges and still lower in the vicinity of gate corners. These results were confirmed by several independent photoelectric and electrical measurement methods. A model is proposed of this distribution in which the experimentally determined øMS(x; y) distributions, found previously, are attributed to mechanical stress distributions in MOS structures. Model equations are derived and used to calculate øMS(x; y) distributions for various structures. Results of these calculations remain in agreement with experimentally obtained distributions. Comparison of various characteristics calculated using the model with the results of photoelectric and electrical measurements of a wide range of Al-SiO2-Si structures support the validity of the model
Obesity and the relationship between somatotrophic axis and bone tissue
u otyłych osób, zwłaszcza u kobiet, i zależą od wskaźnika masy ciała (BMI, body mass index) i procentowej zawartości tłuszczu w organizmie.
RANKL (receptor activator of nuclear factor NF-κb), cytokin należących do nadrodziny czynnika martwicy nowotworów α, które stanowią
ważny element procesu kontroli liczby aktywnych osteoklastów przez osteoblasty. In postmenopausal obese women often is observed increase bone mineral density in relation to slim women. Dominate the view that
positive influence of adipose tissue on state of skeleton in postmenopausal women can be consequence of the boost to load carrying bone,
may also result from the role of adipose tissue as endocrine organ. Interaction existence between somatotrophic axis and bone tissue
suggests that revealing itself changes of constituents concentration of this axis in obesity individuals may have significance in bone tissue
remodeling modification after menopause. It has been demonstrated that GH and IGF-I secretion decrease with age and this changes are
major in obesity persons, particularly in women, and they depend on BMI and the percentage of body fat content. GH as well as IGF-I may
directly and indirectly modulate bone remodeling, stimulating both bone formation and bone resorption. In the light of latest data this last
effect is realized through their influence on expression of OPG and/or RANKL, cytokines belonging to the family of tumor necrosis factor α,
which provide important controlling process element of the numbers of activated osteoclasts through osteoblasts
Stanowisko Polskiego Towarzystwa Endokrynologicznego dotyczące związków endokrynnie czynnych (EDC)
With the reference to the position statements of the Endocrine Society, the Paediatric Endocrine Society, and the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology, the Polish Society of Endocrinology points out the adverse health effects caused by endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) commonly used in daily life as components of plastics, food containers, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. The statement is based on the alarming data about the increase of the prevalence of many endocrine disorders such as: cryptorchidism, precocious puberty in girls and boys, and hormone-dependent cancers (endometrium, breast, prostate). In our opinion, it is of human benefit to conduct epidemiological studies that will enable the estimation of the risk factors of exposure to EDCs and the probability of endocrine disorders. Increasing consumerism and the industrial boom has led to severe pollution of the environment with a corresponding negative impact on human health; thus, there is great necessity for the biomonitoring of EDCs in Poland. (Endokrynol Pol 2015; 66 (3): 276–285)
Stanowisko PTE zostało sprowokowane alarmującymi danymi o wzroście częstości występowania: zaburzeń płodności, wnętrostwa, przedwczesnego dojrzewania płciowego dziewcząt i chłopców, nowotworów hormonozależnych, w tym raka endometrium, sutka, gruczołu krokowego, jajnika i jąder. Influence of pinealectomy and long-term melatonin administration on bone metabolism in orchidectomized rats
i długotrwałe podawanie melatoniny (MEL, melatonin)
szczurom po orchidektomii wpływa na metabolizm kostny,
oceniany na podstawie oznaczeń stężenia w surowicy
PICP (carboxy-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen) i ICTP
(carboxyterminal telopeptide located at the C end of collagen type I).
Materiał i metody: Badaniami objęto 248 dojrzałych płciowo
szczurów szczepu Wistar; 6 pozostało nietkniętych,
u 120 wykonano orchidektomię (Orch), a u pozostałych operację
pozorną (SOrch). Po 2 tygodniach od zabiegu zwierzęta
podzielono na 8 grup: 1) SOrch + SPx; 2) SOrch + SPx + MEL; 3) Orch + SPx; 4) Orch + SPx + MEL;
5) SOrch + Px; 6) SOrch + Px + MEL; 7) Orch + Px;
8) Orch + Px + MEL. Szczury z grup 5.-8. poddano pinealektomii
(Px), a pozostałe pozornej operacji (SPx). Po 2 tygodniach
od zabiegu szczurom z grup 2., 4., 6. i 8. podawano
dootrzewnowo MEL (50 μg/100 g m.c.), a pozostałym - rozpuszczalnik
a w surowicy oznaczano stężenia PICP i ICTP metodą RIA.
Dyskusja: U szczurów poddanych Orch wykazano tendencję
do wzrostu stężeń wskaźników kostnych, zwłaszcza
ICTP. Usunięcie szyszynki wpłynęło pobudzająco, a podawanie
MEL supresyjnie na metabolizm kostny; zmiany były
największe odpowiednio u szczurów grupy Orch + Px
i SOrch + Px + MEL. Po zaprzestaniu podawania MEL obserwowano
tendencję do wzrostu stężeń PICP i ICTP w surowicy.
Introduction: The aim of the study was to demonstrate whether
pinealectomy and long-term MEL administration can
affect bone metabolism (as evaluated on the basis of serum
concentrations of PICP and ICTP) in orchidectomized rats.
Material and methods: The study included 248 adult male
Wistar rats; 6 remained intact, 120 were orchidectomized
(Orch), and the remaining ones underwent a sham operation
(SOrch). Two weeks after surgery, the rats were divided
into 8 groups: 1) SOrch + SPx; 2) SOrch + SPx + MEL;
3) Orch + SPx; 4) Orch + SPx + MEL; 5) SOrch + Px;
6) SOrch + Px + MEL; 7) Orch + Px; 8) Orch + Px + MEL.
Animals from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th groups were pinealectomized
(Px) while the remaining ones underwent a sham operation
(SPx). Two weeks after surgery rats in the 2nd, 4th, 6th
and 8th groups were administered MEL (50 μg/100 g of bm)
intraperitoneally while the remaining animals were administered
solvent only (daily between 5 and 6 pm during
a month). The animals were decapitated before the experiment
(intact rats), after 2 weeks from Orch and SOrch, Px
and SPx, after 4 weeks from MEL or solvent administration
and after 4 and 8 weeks from discontinuing administration
of MEL, and blood was collected for PICP and ICTP concentrations
assays with the use of RIA method.Disscusion: In Orch rats, a distinct tendency to increase the
studied bone markers, especially ICTP was shown. Pinealectomy
had inducing, while MEL suppressing effect upon the
level of PICP and ICTP; these changes were more pronounced
in Orch + Px and SOrch + Px + MEL groups, respectively.
After discontinuing administration of MEL distinct tendency
to increase of PICP and ICTP level was shown.
Conclusions: Our findings indicate that MEL is an important
modulator of bone tissue metabolism in male rats and
that deficiency of MEL concentration may be a co-factor in
osteoporosis development
Konsensus Polskiego Towarzystwa Endokrynologicznego. Przygotowanie analogami somatostatyny do leczenia operacyjnego akromegalii
Consensus statement of the Polish Society of Endocrinology, regarding presurgical somatostatin analogs in acromegaly
has been presented. It is suggested to administer depot somatostatin analog (Octreotide LAR at the dose 20 mg and then
30 mg or equivalent doses of Lanreotide Autogel 90/120 mg every 4 weeks) in order to normalize or suppress to a maximal
extent GH and IGF-1 concentrations. The period of therapy in case of microadenoma would be at least 3 months (targets:
biochemical improvement, reduced risk of disease’s complications, perioperative risk reduction, inhibition of tumor growth).
The period of therapy in case of macroadenoma would be at least 6 months, until maximal possible reduction of GH and
IGF-1 concentrations (targets: tumor shrinkage, biochemical improvement, reduced risk of disease’s complications, perioperative risk reduction). Using an uniform approach in a group, as numerous as possible, of treated patients would allow
objective evaluation of long-term efficacy of the treatment.
(Pol J Endocrinol 2007; 58 (4): 350-355)W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono stanowisko Polskiego Towarzystwa Endokrynologicznego dotyczące przedoperacyjnego
zastosowania analogów somatostatyny u chorych na akromegalię. Przed leczeniem operacyjnym proponuje się podawanie
domięśniowo analogu somatostatyny o przedłużonym działaniu (Oktreotyd LAR w dawce 20 mg, a następnie
obniżenia stężeń hormonu wzrostu (GH, growth hormone) i insulinopodobnego czynnika wzrostu (IGF-1, insulinlike
growth factor-1). Czas leczenia w przypadku mikrogruczolaków wynosiłby co najmniej 3 miesiące (cele: poprawa biochemiczna,
zmniejszenie zagrożenia powikłaniami choroby, zmniejszenie ryzyka okołooperacyjnego, zahamowanie wzrostu
guza). Czas leczenia w przypadku makrogruczolaków wynosiłby co najmniej 6 miesięcy do maksymalnej możliwej redukcji
stężeń GH i IGF-1 (cele: zmniejszenie wielkości guza, poprawa biochemiczna, zmniejszenie zagrożenia powikłaniami
choroby, zmniejszenie ryzyka okołooperacyjnego). Zastosowanie jednolitego schematu postępowania w możliwie licznej
grupie leczonych chorych pozwoliłoby na obiektywną ocenę odległej skuteczności terapii
