Probing Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Mechanism at the LHC: A Guideline from Power Counting Analysis
We formulate the equivalence theorem as a theoretical criterion for
sensitively probing the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, and develop a
precise power counting method for the chiral Lagrangian formulated electroweak
theories. Armed with these, we perform a systematic analysis on the
sensitivities of the scattering processes
and for testing all possible effective bosonic
operators in the chiral Lagrangian formulated electroweak theories at the CERN
Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The analysis shows that these two kinds of
processes are "complementary" in probing the electroweak symmetry breaking
sector.Comment: Extended version, 11-page-Latex-file and 3 separate PS-Figs. To be

QCD Multipole Expansion and Hadronic Transitions in Heavy Quarkonium Systems
We review the developments of QCD multipole expansion and its applications to
hadronic transitions and some radiative decays of heavy quarkonia. Theoretical
predictions are compsred with updated experimental results.Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures. Some typos corrected, and 3 references adde
Rolling of asymmetric disks on an inclined plane
In a recent papers, Turner and Turner (2010 {\em Am. J. Phys.} {\bf 78}
905-7) and Jensen (2011 {\em Eur. J. Phys.} {\bf 32} 389-397) analysed the
motion of asymmetric rolling rigid bodies on a horizontal plane. These papers
addressed the common misconception that the instantaneous point of contact of
the rolling body with the plane can be used to evaluate the angular momentum
and the torque in the equation of motion
. To obtain the correct equation of motion,
the "phantom torque" or various rules that depend on the motion of the point
about which and are evaluated were discussed. In
this paper, I consider asymmetric disks rolling down an inclined plane and
describe the most basic way of obtaining the correct equation of motion; that
is, to choose the point about which and are
evaluated that is stationary in an inertial frame
Complex Behavior in Simple Models of Biological Coevolution
We explore the complex dynamical behavior of simple predator-prey models of
biological coevolution that account for interspecific and intraspecific
competition for resources, as well as adaptive foraging behavior. In long
kinetic Monte Carlo simulations of these models we find quite robust 1/f-like
noise in species diversity and population sizes, as well as power-law
distributions for the lifetimes of individual species and the durations of
quiet periods of relative evolutionary stasis. In one model, based on the
Holling Type II functional response, adaptive foraging produces a metastable
low-diversity phase and a stable high-diversity phase.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
Multiple Equilibria in a Single-Column Model of the Tropical Atmosphere
A single-column model run under the weak temperature gradient approximation,
a parameterization of large-scale dynamics appropriate for the tropical
atmosphere, is shown to have multiple stable equilibria. Under conditions
permitting persistent deep convection, the model has a statistically steady
state in which such convection occurs, as well as an extremely dry state in
which convection does not occur. Which state is reached depends on the initial
moisture profile.Comment: Submitted to Geophysical Research Letter
Inherent Mach-Zehnder interference with "which-way" detection for single particle scattering in one dimension
We study the coherent transport of single photon in a one-dimensional
coupled-resonator-array, "non-locally" coupled to a two-level system. Since its
inherent structure is a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, we explain the destructive
interference phenomenon of the transmission spectrums according to the effect
of which-way detection. The quantum realization of the present model is a
nano-electromechanical resonator arrays with two nearest resonators coupled to
a single spin via their attached magnetic tips. Its classical simulation is a
waveguide of coupled defected cavity array with double couplings to a side
defected cavity.Comment: 5 papges, 4 figure
