    UniquID: A Quest to Reconcile Identity Access Management and the Internet of Things

    The Internet of Things (IoT) has caused a revolutionary paradigm shift in computer networking. After decades of human-centered routines, where devices were merely tools that enabled human beings to authenticate themselves and perform activities, we are now dealing with a device-centered paradigm: the devices themselves are actors, not just tools for people. Conventional identity access management (IAM) frameworks were not designed to handle the challenges of IoT. Trying to use traditional IAM systems to reconcile heterogeneous devices and complex federations of online services (e.g., IoT sensors and cloud computing solutions) adds a cumbersome architectural layer that can become hard to maintain and act as a single point of failure. In this paper, we propose UniquID, a blockchain-based solution that overcomes the need for centralized IAM architectures while providing scalability and robustness. We also present the experimental results of a proof-of-concept UniquID enrolment network, and we discuss two different use-cases that show the considerable value of a blockchain-based IAM.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figure

    Fusion of 6^{6}Li with 159^{159}Tb} at near barrier energies

    Complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for 6^{6}Li+159^{159}Tb have been measured at energies around the Coulomb barrier by the γ\gamma-ray method. The measurements show that the complete fusion cross sections at above-barrier energies are suppressed by ∼\sim34% compared to the coupled channels calculations. A comparison of the complete fusion cross sections at above-barrier energies with the existing data of 11,10^{11,10}B+159^{159}Tb and 7^{7}Li+159^{159}Tb shows that the extent of suppression is correlated with the α\alpha-separation energies of the projectiles. It has been argued that the Dy isotopes produced in the reaction 6^{6}Li+159^{159}Tb, at below-barrier energies are primarily due to the dd-transfer to unbound states of 159^{159}Tb, while both transfer and incomplete fusion processes contribute at above-barrier energies.Comment: Phys.     Vibrations Levels Assessment of a Robotic Intra-Row Weeder Using Low-Cost Data Acquisition System

    Automated weeding is a way to increase efficiency in the control of invasive plants. Soil characteristics can influence the performance of weeder mechanisms. The objective of this work was to determine the vibrations levels of a robotic intra-row weeder mechanism for different operating conditions and provide information to correlate with soil conditions. The data acquisition system was composed of a single-board computer and a triaxial MEMS accelerometer. The computer was programmed in C++ to acquire vibration measurements. The accelerometer was mounted to the bearing housing of the rotary tine shaft. Vibrations of the weeder mechanism were first measured without soil contact for different angular velocities of the rotary tine disk. Then, vibrations were monitored in different soils (dry and moist loam soil and sand) for three angular velocities of rotary tines (25, 50 and 100 rev/min) and two tine depths (25 and 50 mm). RMS accelerations and the frequency spectrum were used to evaluate the vibrations levels. Moist loam soil and sand had the highest and lowest increases in accelerations, respectively. The analysis showed it is possible to correlate vibrational characteristics with soil conditions that may exist during intra-row weeding. In addition, mechanical vibrations in an intra-row weeder can be monitored using a low-cost and user-friendly system

    High-Precision Measurement of the 19Ne Half-Life and Implications for Right-Handed Weak Currents

    We report a precise determination of the 19Ne half-life to be T1/2=17.262±0.007T_{1/2} = 17.262 \pm 0.007 s. This result disagrees with the most recent precision measurements and is important for placing bounds on predicted right-handed interactions that are absent in the current Standard Model. We are able to identify and disentangle two competing systematic effects that influence the accuracy of such measurements. Our findings prompt a reassessment of results from previous high-precision lifetime measurements that used similar equipment and methods.Comment: 5 pages and 5 figures.     Onset of deformation at N=112N = 112 in Bi nuclei

    The high spin states in 195^{195}Bi has been studied by γ\gamma-ray spectroscopic method using the 181^{181}Ta(20^{20}Ne, 6n) fusion evaporation reaction at 130 MeV. The γγ\gamma\gamma coincidence data were taken using an array of 8 clover HPGe detectors. The spin and parity assignments of the excited states have been made from the measured directional correlation from oriented states (DCO) ratios and integrated polarization asymmetry (IPDCO) ratios. The results show, for the first time, the evidence of a rotational like band based on a 13/2+^+ band head in this nucleus, indicating the onset of deformation at neutron number N=112N = 112 for the Bismuth isotopes. The results obtained were found to be consistent with the prediction of the total Routhian surface calculations using Woods Saxon potential. The same calculations also predict a change in shape from oblate to triaxial in 195^{195}Bi at high rotational frequency

    An econometric study is carried out using a panel data model with fixed effects to identify the industrial development determinants in Colombia during the term 2005–2015. The database used in the study corresponds to World Bank and the Colombian state. The determinants of industrial growth identified at the theoretical level that allow the enhancement of productive capacities to face foreign competition in Colombia are: innovation; networks of innovations and knowledge among companies and organizations; the interest rate; the capital-product ratio, the unit labor cost; and the exchange rate. The amount invested in scientific, technological and innovation activities by industrial group is the only variable that is not significant in the model

    Fusion cross sections for 6,7Li + 24Mg reactions at energies below and above the barrier

    Measurement of fusion cross sections for the 6,7Li + 24Mg reactions by the characteristic gamma-ray method has been done at energies from below to well above the respective Coulomb barriers. The fusion cross sections obtained from these gamma-ray cross sections for the two systems are found to agree well with the total reaction cross sections at low energies. The decrease of fusion cross sections with increase of energy is consistent with the fact that other channels, in particular breakup open up with increase of bombarding energy. This shows that there is neither inhibition nor enhancement of fusion cross sections for these systems at above or below the barrier. The critical angular momenta (lcr) deduced from the fusion cross sections are found to have an energy dependence similar to other Li - induced reactions.Comment: 1 .pdf fil
