The Influence of Electric Vehicle Charging on Low Voltage Grids with Characteristics Typical for Germany
The increasing number of electric vehicles poses new challenges to the power grid. Their charging process stresses the power system, as additional energy has to be supplied, especially during peak load periods. This additional load can result in critical network situations depending on various parameters. These impacts may vary based on market penetration, the energy demand, the plug-in time, the charging rate, and the grid topology and the associated operational equipment. Hence, the impact of electric vehicles (EVs) on the power grid was analysed for twelve typical German low voltage grids by applying power flow calculations. One main result was that thermal and voltage-related network overloads were highly dependent on market penetration and grid topology
The Full Event Interpretation -- An exclusive tagging algorithm for the Belle II experiment
The Full Event Interpretation is presented: a new exclusive tagging algorithm
used by the high-energy physics experiment Belle II. The experimental setup of
Belle II allows the precise measurement of otherwise inaccessible meson
decay-modes. The Full Event Interpretation algorithm enables many of these
measurements. The algorithm relies on machine learning to automatically
identify plausible meson decay chains based on the data recorded by the
detector. Compared to similar algorithms employed by previous experiments, the
Full Event Interpretation provides a greater efficiency, yielding a larger

New Physics Signals in Longitudinal Gauge Boson Scattering at the LHC
We introduce a novel technique designed to look for signatures of new physics
in vector boson fusion processes at the TeV scale. This functions by measuring
the polarization of the vector bosons to determine the relative longitudinal to
transverse production. In studying this ratio we can directly probe the high
energy E^2-growth of longitudinal vector boson scattering amplitudes
characteristic of models with non-Standard Model (SM) interactions. We will
focus on studying models parameterized by an effective Lagrangian that include
a light Higgs with non-SM couplings arising from TeV scale new physics
associated with the electroweak symmetry breaking, although our technique can
be used in more general scenarios. We will show that this technique is stable
against the large uncertainties that can result from variations in the
factorization scale, improving upon previous studies that measure cross section
alone
Jet Dipolarity: Top Tagging with Color Flow
A new jet observable, dipolarity, is introduced that can distinguish whether
a pair of subjets arises from a color singlet source. This observable is
incorporated into the HEPTopTagger and is shown to improve discrimination

Cytogerontology since 1881: A reappraisal of August Weismann and a review of modern progress
Cytogerontology, the science of cellular ageing, originated in 1881 with the prediction by August Weismann that the somatic cells of higher animals have limited division potential. Weismann's prediction was derived by considering the role of natural selection in regulating the duration of an organism's life. For various reasons, Weismann's ideas on ageing fell into neglect following his death in 1914, and cytogerontology has only reappeared as a major research area following the demonstration by Hayflick and Moorhead in the early 1960s that diploid human fibroblasts are restricted to a finite number of divisions in vitro.
In this review we give a detailed account of Weismann's theory, and we reveal that his ideas were both more extensive in their scope and more pertinent to current research than is generally recognised. We also appraise the progress which has been made over the past hundred years in investigating the causes of ageing, with particular emphasis being given to (i) the evolution of ageing, and (ii) ageing at the cellular level. We critically assess the current state of knowledge in these areas and recommend a series of points as primary targets for future research
On the relativistic KMS condition for the P(\phi)_2 model
The relativistic KMS condition introduced by Bros and Buchholz provides a
link between quantum statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. We show
that for the model at positive temperature, the two point function
for fields satisfies the relativistic KMS condition
Jet Substructure at the Tevatron and LHC: New results, new tools, new benchmarks
In this report we review recent theoretical progress and the latest
experimental results in jet substructure from the Tevatron and the LHC. We
review the status of and outlook for calculation and simulation tools for
studying jet substructure. Following up on the report of the Boost 2010
workshop, we present a new set of benchmark comparisons of substructure
techniques, focusing on the set of variables and grooming methods that are
collectively known as "top taggers". To facilitate further exploration, we have
attempted to collect, harmonise, and publish software implementations of these
