    The drastic development in the information accessible on the World Wide Web has made the employment of automated tools to locate the information resources of interest, and for tracking and analyzing the same a certainty. Web Mining is the branch of data mining that deals with the analysis of World Wide Web. The concepts from various areas such as Data Mining, Internet technology and World Wide Web, and recently, Semantic Web can be said as the origin of web mining. Web mining can be defined as the procedure of determining hidden yet potentially beneficial knowledge from the data accessible in the web. Web mining comprise the sub areas: web content mining, web structure mining, and web usage mining. Web content mining is the process of mining knowledge from the web pages besides other web objects. The process of mining knowledge about the link structure linking web pages and some other web objects is defined as Web structure mining. Web usage mining is defined as the process of mining the usage patterns created by the users accessing the web pages. The search engine technology has led to the development of World Wide. The search engines are the chief gateways for access of information in the web. The ability to locate contents of particular interest amidst a huge heap has turned businesses beneficial and productive. The search engines respond to the queries by employing the process of web crawling that populates an indexed repository of web pages. The programs construct a confined repository of the segment of the web that they visit by navigating the web graph and retrieving pages. There are two main types of crawling, namely, Generic and Focused crawling. Generic crawlers crawls documents and links of diverse topics. Focused crawlers limit the number of pages with the aid of some prior obtained specialized knowledge. The systems that index, mine, and otherwise analyze pages (such as, the search engines) are provided with inputs from the repositories of web pages built by the web crawlers. The drastic development of the Internet and the growing necessity to incorporate heterogeneous data is accompanied by the issue of the existence of near duplicate data. Even if the near duplicate data don’t exhibit bit wise identical nature they are remarkably similar. The duplicate and near duplicate web pages either increase the index storage space or slow down or increase the serving costs which annoy the users, thus causing huge problems for the web search engines. Hence it is inevitable to design algorithms to detect such pages

    Outcome of Demonstration Program on Hand Washing Technique among Nursing Staff in Dhiraj General Hospital

    Background of the study: Thousands of people die every day around the world from infections acquired while receiving health care. Hands are the main pathways of germ transmission during health care. Hand hygiene is therefore the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health care-associated infection. However studies have shown that hand washing practices are poor among nursing personnel. Objective : To assess the knowledge and practice regarding hand washing techniques among nursing staff. Method : A descriptive evaluative approach on 150 nursing staff with Probability Simple random sampling technique was used for this study. Results: The mean post test knowledge score (12.48) was higher than the mean pre test knowledge score (6.72). The mean post test practice score (14.86) was higher than the mean pre test practice score (8.70). Conclusion: The present study assessed the knowledge and practice among nursing staff regarding hand washing technique and found that nursing staff had inadequate knowledge and practice regarding hand washing technique. After the demonstration program was given on hand washing technique, there was significant improvement in knowledge and practice of nursing staff regarding hand washing technique. The study concluded that demonstration program was effective in improving the knowledge and practice of nursing staff regarding hand washing technique

    Leveraging Existing Cohorts to Study Health Effects of Air Pollution on Cardiometabolic Disorders:India Global Environmental and Occupational Health Hub

    Air pollution is a growing public health concern in developing countries and poses a huge epidemiological burden. Despite the growing awareness of ill effects of air pollution, the evidence linking air pollution and health effects is sparse. This requires environmental exposure scientist and public health researchers to work more cohesively to generate evidence on health impacts of air pollution in developing countries for policy advocacy. In the Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Program, we aim to build exposure assessment model to estimate ambient air pollution exposure at a very fine resolution which can be linked with health outcomes leveraging well-phenotyped cohorts which have information on geolocation of households of study participants. We aim to address how air pollution interacts with meteorological and weather parameters and other aspects of the urban environment, occupational classification, and socioeconomic status, to affect cardiometabolic risk factors and disease outcomes. This will help us generate evidence for cardiovascular health impacts of ambient air pollution in India needed for necessary policy advocacy. The other exploratory aims are to explore mediatory role of the epigenetic mechanisms (DNA methylation) and vitamin D exposure in determining the association between air pollution exposure and cardiovascular health outcomes. Other components of the GEOHealth program include building capacity and strengthening the skills of public health researchers in India through variety of training programs and international collaborations. This will help generate research capacity to address environmental and occupational health research questions in India.     Development of a transdiagnostic, low-intensity, psychological intervention for common adolescent mental health problems in Indian secondary schools

    Background: The PRIDE programme aims to establish a suite of transdiagnostic psychological interventions organised around a stepped care system in Indian secondary schools. This paper describes the development of a low-intensity, first-line component of the PRIDE model. Method: Contextual and global evidence informed an intervention ‘blueprint’ with problem solving as the primary practice element. Successive iterations were tested and modified across two pilot cohort studies (N=45; N=39). Participants were aged 13–20 years and presenting with elevated mental health symptoms in New Delhi schools. Results: The first iteration of the intervention, based on a guided self-help modality, showed promising outcomes and user satisfaction when delivered by psychologists. However, delivery was not feasible within the intended 6-week schedule, and participants struggled to use materials outside ‘guidance’ sessions. In Pilot 2, a modified counsellor-led problem-solving intervention was implemented by less experienced counsellors over a 3–4 week schedule. Outcomes were maintained, with indications of enhanced feasibility and acceptability. High demand was observed across both pilots, leading to more stringent eligibility criteria and a modified sensitisation plan. Discussion: Findings have shaped a first-line intervention for common adolescent mental health problems in low-resource settings. A forthcoming randomised controlled trial will test its effectiveness

    Effectiveness of a brief lay counsellor-delivered, problem-solving intervention for adolescent mental health problems in urban, low-income schools in India: a randomised controlled trial

    Background Mental health problems are a leading cause of disability in adolescents worldwide. Problem solving is a well-tested mental health intervention in many populations. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a brief, transdiagnostic problem-solving intervention for common adolescent mental health problems when delivered by non-specialist school counsellors in New Delhi, India. Methods This randomised trial was done in six government-run schools (three all-boys schools, two all-girls schools, and one co-educational school) that serve low-income communities. We recruited participants from grades 9 to 12 (ages 12–20 years) by selecting students with persistently elevated mental health symptoms accompanied by distress or functional impairment. Clinical eligibility criteria were assessed by research assistants using the Hindi-language version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), with reference to locally validated borderline cutoff scores of 19 or greater for boys and 20 or greater for girls on the SDQ Total Difficulties scale, an abnormal score of 2 or more on the SDQ Impact scale, and persistence of more than 1 month on the SDQ Chronicity index. Participants were randomly allocated (1:1) to problem solving delivered through a brief (2–3 week) counsellor-led intervention with supporting printed materials (intervention group), or problem solving delivered via printed booklets alone (control group). Primary outcomes were adolescent-reported mental health symptoms (SDQ Total Difficulties scale) and idiographic psychosocial problems (Youth Top Problems [YTP]) at 6 weeks. Primary analyses were done on an intention-to-treat basis at the 6-week endpoint. The trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03630471. Findings Participants were enrolled between Aug 20, and Dec 4, 2018. 283 eligible adolescents were referred to the trial, and 251 (89%) of these were enrolled (mean age 15·61 years; 174 [69%] boys). 125 participants were allocated to each group (after accounting for one participant in the intervention group who withdrew consent after randomisation). Primary outcome data were available for 245 (98%) participants. At 6 weeks, the mean YTP scores were 3·52 (SD 2·66) in the intervention group and 4·60 (2·75) in the control group (adjusted mean difference –1·01, 95% CI –1·63 to –0·38; adjusted effect size 0·36, 95% CI 0·11 to 0·61; p=0·0015). The mean SDQ Total Difficulties scores were 17·48 (5·45) in the intervention group and 18·33 (5·45) in the control group (–0·86, –2·14 to 0·41; 0·16, –0·09 to 0·41; p=0·18). We observed no adverse events. Interpretation A brief lay counsellor-delivered problem-solving intervention combined with printed booklets seemed to have a modest effect on psychosocial outcomes among adolescents with diverse mental health problems compared with problem-solving booklets alone. This counsellor-delivered intervention might be a suitable first-line intervention in a stepped care approach, which is being evaluated in ongoing studies
