The Be X-ray Binary Outburst Zoo
Be X-ray binaries are among the best known transient high-energy sources.
Their outbursts are commonly classified into a simple scheme of 'normal' and
'giant' outbursts, but a closer look shows that actual outbursts do not always
follow this simple scheme. Recent data show a variety of properties, like
pre-flares, shifts of the outburst peaks with respect to the periastron,
multi-peaked outbursts etc. We present results from a systematic study of a
large number of outbursts monitored by various space missions, comparing
outburst properties and their relation to system parameters and current
theoretical understanding.Comment: Proceedings of "An INTEGRAL view of the high-energy sky (the first 10

Possible hard X-ray shortages in bursts from KS 1731-260 and 4U 1705-44
Aims: A hard X-ray shortage, implying the cooling of the corona, was observed
during bursts of IGR J17473-272, 4U 1636-536, Aql X-1, and GS 1826-238. Apart
from these four sources, we investigate here an atoll sample, in which the
number of bursts for each source is larger than 5, to explore the possible
additional hard X-ray shortage during {\it Rossi X-ray timing explorer (RXTE)}
era. Methods: According to the source catalog that shows type-I bursts, we
analyzed all the available pointing observations of these sources carried out
by the {\it RXTE} proportional counter array (PCA). We grouped and combined the
bursts according to their outburst states and searched for the possible hard
X-ray shortage while bursting. Results: We found that the island states of KS
1731-260 and 4U 1705-44 show a hard X-ray shortage at significant levels of 4.5
and 4.7 and a systematic time lag of s and
s with respect to the soft X-rays, respectively. While in their banana branches
and other sources, we did not find any consistent shortage.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted by A&A as a research not
GeV detection of HESS J0632+057
HESS J0632+057 is the only gamma-ray binary that has been detected at TeV
energies, but not at GeV energies yet. Based on nearly nine years of Fermi
Large Area Telescope (LAT) Pass 8 data, we report here on a deep search for the
gamma-ray emission from HESS J0632+057 in the 0.1-300 GeV energy range. We find
a previously unknown gamma-ray source, Fermi J0632.6+0548, spatially coincident
with HESS J0632+057. The measured flux of Fermi J0632.6+0548 is consistent with
the previous flux upper limit on HESS J0632+057 and shows variability that can
be related to the HESS J0632+057 orbital phase. We propose that Fermi
J0632.6+0548 is the GeV counterpart of HESS J0632+057. Considering the Very
High Energy (VHE) spectrum of HESS J0632+057, a possible spectral turnover
above 10 GeV may exist in Fermi J0632.6+0548, as appears to be common in other
established gamma-ray binaries.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; Accepted for publication in Ap
EXO 2030+375 Restarts in Reverse
The Be X-ray binary pulsar EXO 2030+375, first detected in 1985, has shown a
significant detected X-ray outburst at nearly every periastron passage of its
46-day orbit for the past ~25 years, with one low state accompanied by a torque
reversal in the 1990s. In early 2015 the outbursts progressively became fainter
and less regular while the monotonic spin-up flattened. At the same time a
decrease in the H line equivalent width was reported, indicating a
change in the disk surrounding the mass donor.
In order to explore the source behaviour in the poorly explored low-flux
state with a possible transition to a state of centrifugal inhibition of
accretion we have undertaken an observing campaign with Swift/XRT, NuSTAR and
the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT). This conference contribution reports the
preliminary results obtained from our campaign.Comment: 11th INTEGRAL Conference Gamma-Ray Astrophysics in Multi-Wavelength
