    Destabilization of cortical dendrites and spines by BDNF

    Particle-mediated gene transfer and two-photon microscopy were used to monitor the behavior of dendrites of individual cortical pyramidal neurons coexpressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). While the dendrites and spines of neurons expressing GFP alone grew modestly over 24-48 hr, coexpressing BDNF elicited dramatic sprouting of basal dendrites, accompanied by a regression of dendritic spines. Compared to GFP-transfected controls, the newly formed dendrites and spines were highly unstable. Experiments utilizing Trk receptor bodies, K252a, and overexpression of nerve growth factor (NGF) demonstrated that these effects were mediated by secreted BDNF interacting with extracellular TrkB receptors. Thus, BDNF induces structural instability in dendrites and spines, which, when restricted to particular portions of a dendritic arbor, may help translate activity patterns into specific morphological changes

    Настоящее исследование рассматривает вопросы организации самостоятельной работы студентов по развитию иноязычных монологических умений в условиях смешанного обучения в техническом вузе. В работе проведен анализ трудов зарубежных и отечественных исследователей, занимающихся проблемами смешанного обучения по иностранному языку, что позволило уточнить определение "смешанного обучения", а так же было сформулировано понятие "самостоятельной работы в условиях смешанного обучения". Для развития умений иноязычной монологической речи студентов технического вуза определено содержание обучения, подходы и принципы, разработан комплекс упражнений, размещенный в электронной среде, обеспечивающие реализацию процесса обучения в условиях смешанного обучения.This research deals with the organization of independent work of students, developing their foreign monologue skills in terms of blended learning in a technical university. The analysis of the works of foreign and Russian researchers on blended learning in a foreign language, made it possible to clarify the definition of "blended learning", as well as the formulation of the concept - "independent work in a blended learning". The work describes a pilot training, which proves the efficiency of the developed learning technique of improving students’ foreign monologue skills in a technical university in terms of blended learning

    Predicative model for investigation high-temperature evaporation processes of water droplets

    A predicative model has been developed to study the processes of high-temperature heating and evaporation of water droplets, taking into account the main interconnected processes of heat transfer and phase transformations. Typical profiles of temperature and velocity in the system "high-temperature gases - a droplet of water" are established when the temperature of the external gas medium varies from 100 to 800 0С. Various statements of the problem are considered, which differ substantially in the type of processes and factors taken into account. The analysis of temperature regimes of heating and evaporation of water droplets is carried out, at which simplified models can be used, and in which all complex interrelated processes of heat and mass transfer (including convective, conductive and radiant heat transfer in droplets, and also in the near-surface vapor-gas layer) need to be taken into account

    WU Polyomavirus (WUPyV): A Recently Detected Virus Causing Respiratory Disease?

    The WU polyomavirus (WUPyV) is a novel member of the family Polyomaviridae recently detected in respiratory tract specimens by shotgun sequencing. Intriguingly, viral genome has been detected in 0.4% to 11.5% of respiratory tract specimens from children with respiratory disease. The levels of co-infection with established respiratory viruses were in the range between 30.8% and 91.7%. Moreover, some studies report detection of WUPyV in stool or serum. So far, WUPyV infections can not be distinguished from other viral infections by means of clinical symptoms. Respiratory tract disease like pneumonia or bronchitis is frequently observed in patients harbouring WUPyV. Detection of viremia suggests systemic infections. However, the available data do not prove WUPyV to be a human pathogen. Further investigations are necessary
