OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: 1) Determine feasibility of smartphone-based mobile technology to measure noise exposure; and 2) measure noise exposure in exercise spin classes. STUDY DESIGN: Observational Study. METHODS: The SoundMeter Pro app (Faber Acoustical, Salt Lake City, UT) was installed and calibrated on iPhone and iPod devices in an audiology chamber using an external sound level meter to within 2 dBA of accuracy. Recording devices were placed in the bike cupholders of participants attending spin classes in Boston, Massachusetts (n = 17) and used to measure sound level (A-weighted) and noise dosimetry during exercise according to National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) guidelines. RESULTS: The average length of exposure was 48.9 Β± 1.2 (standard error of the mean) minutes per class. Maximum sound recorded among 17 random classes was 116.7 dBA, which was below the NIOSH instantaneous exposure guideline of 140 dBA. An average of 31.6 Β± 3.8 minutes were spent at >100 dBA. This exceeds NIOSH recommendations of 15 minutes of exposure or less at 100 dBA per day. Average noise exposure for one 45-minute class was 8.95 Β± 1.2 times the recommended noise exposure dose for an 8-hour workday. CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary data shows that randomly sampled cycling classes may have high noise levels with a potential for noise-induced hearing loss. Mobile dosimetry technology may enable users to self-monitor risk to their hearing and actively engage in noise protection measures. Personality features and values orientations of university students with manipulative behaviour

    No full text
The relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that in recent decade the problem of preventing psychological violence among university students has arisen, which often manifests itself in the form of manipulative behavior. It is important to study the personality traits and value orientations of university students prone to manipulative behavior to develop effective programs for the prevention of this sociopsychological phenomenon. In the paper results of empirical research on prevalence and interrelation of personal features and valuable orientations among university students, inclined to manipulations in interaction with other people, in the educational environment are presented. It is established that students who are prone to manipulative behavior have such personal characteristics as high rigidity, low extraversion and sensitivity. Their value orientations are characterized by low importance of conformity, kindness, universalism and safety both at the level of normative ideals and at the level of individual priorities. Β© 2018

The paper relevance is related to the need to develop new approaches to the innovative economy management. The paper purpose is to develop innovative development analytical model in the economic sectors context based on open innovations' theoretical concepts study and systematization. The paper presents the characteristics for innovative activity system-forming elements, including the innovative infrastructure at the meso-level. An innovation triple helix model is suggested by economic activity types in national innovation systems on economic and mathematical simulation basis. The paper materials can be used to develop innovation activities forecasts of science, business and the state
