Measurement of hadron masses in 2-color finite density QCD
We investigate hadron spectra in 2-color QCD using lattice simulation with
at low temperature and finite density in which there appears not only
the hadronic phase but also the superfluid phase. We first calculate the pion
and rho meson spectrum, which is well-known from previous works. The spectral
ordering of these mesons flips around the quark chemical potential
(: the pion mass at ), where the phase
transition between the hadronic and superfluid phases occurs. For , the effective mass for the pion linearly increases while the
one for the rho meson monotonically decreases. Furthermore, we measure hadron
spectra with the isospin and the angular momentum . The
effective masses for the meson, diquark, and antidiquark with the same quantum
number become degenerate just below , and the three
hadrons have the same mass in the superfluid phase. It suggests that mixing
occurs between spectra associating with mesons and baryons due to the
symmetry breaking. This phenomenon can be explained in the linear
sigma model with the approximate Pauli-Gursey symmetry.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, Proceedings of the 39th International Symposium

Assessment of intraoral mucosal pain induced by the application of capsaicin
Objective
To develop an objective method for assessing nociceptive behaviour in an animal model of capsaicin-induced intraoral pain. Changes in nociceptive responses were also examined after injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN).
Design
Nociceptive responses evoked by the intraoral application of various doses of capsaicin were analyzed in lightly anaesthetized rats. The number of c-Fos protein-like immunoreactive (Fos-LI) neurons in the medullary dorsal horn (MDH) induced by the intraoral application of capsaicin was measured. Behavioural and c-Fos responses were also examined 14 days after injury to the IAN.
Results
Larger doses of intraoral capsaicin (1, 10 and 100 μg) induced vigorous licking behaviour and c-Fos response in the MDH in a reproducible manner. The magnitudes of both behavioural activity and the c-Fos response from the 10 and 100 μg doses of capsaicin were significantly greater than that by the 1 μg dose. Injury to the IAN exaggerated the behavioural and c-Fos responses evoked by intraoral capsaicin.
Conclusions
The intraoral application of capsaicin is a valid and reliable method for studying intraoral pain and hyperalgesia following nerve injury

Iguratimod Ameliorates the Severity of Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in Model Mice by Directly Inhibiting IL-6 Production and Th17 Cell Migration via Mitigation of Glial Inflammation
We previously reported a novel secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) model, progressive experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (pEAE), in oligodendroglia-specific Cx47-inducible conditional knockout (Cx47 icKO) mice. Based on our prior study showing the efficacy of iguratimod (IGU), an antirheumatic drug, for acute EAE treatment, we aimed to elucidate the effect of IGU on the SPMS animal model. We induced pEAE by immunizing Cx47 icKO mice with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein peptide 35–55. IGU was orally administered from 17 to 50 days post-immunization. We also prepared a primary mixed glial cell culture and measured cytokine levels in the culture supernatant after stimulation with designated cytokines (IL-1α, C1q, TNF-α) and lipopolysaccharide. A migration assay was performed to evaluate the effect of IGU on the migration ability of T cells toward mixed glial cell cultures. IGU treatment ameliorated the clinical signs of pEAE, decreased the demyelinated area, and attenuated glial inflammation on immunohistochemical analysis. Additionally, IGU decreased the intrathecal IL-6 level and infiltrating Th17 cells. The migration assay revealed reduced Th17 cell migration and IL-6 levels in the culture supernatant after IGU treatment. Collectively, IGU successfully mitigated the clinical signs of pEAE by suppressing Th17 migration through inhibition of IL-6 production by proinflammatory-activated glial cells.</p
A community intervention trial of multimodal suicide prevention program in Japan: A Novel multimodal Community Intervention program to prevent suicide and suicide attempt in Japan, NOCOMIT-J

Abstract

Background

To respond to the rapid surge in the incidence of suicide in Japan, which appears to be an ongoing trend, the Japanese Multimodal Intervention Trials for Suicide Prevention (J-MISP) have launched a multimodal community-based suicide prevention program, NOCOMIT-J. The primary aim of this study is to examine whether NOCOMIT-J is effective in reducing suicidal behavior in the community.

Methods/DesignThis study is a community intervention trial involving seven intervention regions with accompanying control regions, all with populations of statistically sufficient size. The program focuses on building social support networks in the public health system for suicide prevention and mental health promotion, intending to reinforce human relationships in the community. The intervention program components includes a primary prevention measures of awareness campaign for the public and key personnel, secondary prevention measures for screening of, and assisting, high-risk individuals, after-care for individuals bereaved by suicide, and other measures. The intervention started in July 2006, and will continue for 3.5 years. Participants are Japanese and foreign residents living in the intervention and control regions (a total of population of 2,120,000 individuals).

Discussion

The present study is designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the community-based suicide prevention program in the seven participating areas.

Trial registration

UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) UMIN000000460.</p
Beam and SKS spectrometers at the K1.8 beam line
High-resolution spectrometers for both incident beams and scattered particles have been constructed at the K1.8 beam line of the Hadron Experimental Facility at J-PARC. A point-to-point optics is realized between the entrance and exit of QQDQQ magnets for the beam spectrometer. Fine-pitch wire chamber trackers and hodoscope counters are installed in the beam spectrometer to accept a high rate beam up to 107 Hz. The superconducting kaon spectrometer for scattered particles was transferred from KEK with modifications to the cryogenic system and detectors. A missing-mass resolution of 1.9 ± 0.1 MeV/c2 (FWHM) was achieved for the ∑ peaks of (π±, K+) reactions on a proton target in the first physics run of E19 in 2010
