Knowledge Sharing in Social Networking Sites for e-Collaboration: Identity and Bond Theory Perspective

    Get PDF
Advances in information and communication technologies have produced enormous changes in the manners, approaches, and methods that people use to collaborate. Knowledge sharing is one of the essential functions of social networking sites (SNS) as new e-Collaboration environment. This study studies knowledge sharing behavior in SNS from the perspective of knowledge contributors and their characteristics using the lens of identity and bond theory. Identity and bond theory asserts that individuals behavioral patterns in SNS. Therefore, this study identified the factors influencing the knowledge sharing in SNS based on identity and bond theory. The data was collected using an online survey from the members of Cyworld, Facebook, and Twitter in South Korea. The results indicate that network externality, social interaction, enjoy helping and self-image expression significantly affect the two type of attachment (common identity and bond). Also, two type of attachment significantly affect the knowledge sharing. Based on the findings, this study offers suggestions to organizers of SNSs to enhance the knowledge sharing from their members

THE DIFFERENT ALCOHOL USE AMONG ASIAN POPULATION IN U.S.: THE ROLE OF RACE IN THE RELATINOSHIP BETWEEN PERSONALITY/SOCIAL LEARNING AND ALCOHOL USE

poster abstractAlthough extensive research on alcohol use among Caucasian population has been conducted, there are only a few studies to explore an underlying mechanism of alcohol use on Asian population in U.S. Because of the risks associated with alcohol, it is important to understand the different alcohol use behaviors among Asian group in terms of personality and social learning. Extensive studies have suggested that drinking motives and alcohol expec-tancy are good proxy predictors of social and cultural learning, and impul-sivity is related to personality traits. However, there is only a few data that examine impulsivity, drinking motives, and alcohol expectancy difference by race. No studies have ever examined the mediating and moderating role of race in the relationship between impulsivity and drinking motives/alcohol expectancy on alcohol use. The goal of this poster is to review the different impulsivity, drinking motives, and alcohol expectancy among Asian popula-tion in order to elucidate the unknown mechanism of alcohol use and devel-op a theoretical model of Asian drinking. Our review of the literature indi-cates that Asians particularly endorsed high impulsive coping strategies compared to Caucasians, engaged in problematic drinking due to conformity drinking motives, and alcohol expectancies mediated the relationship be-tween impulsivity and alcohol use only for Asian group. These findings sug-gest that the role of culture and race has crucial influence on Asian drinking pattern in U.S. and needs to be empirically examined in the future studies

A Comparative Study of Queue, Delay, and Loss Characteristics of AQM Schemes in QoS-enabled Networks

One of the major component in a QoS-enabled network is active queue management (AQM). Over the last decade numerous AQM schemes have been proposed in the literature. However, much recent work has focused on improving AQM performance through alternate approaches. This study focuses on an unbiased comparative evaluation of the various proposals. The evaluation methodology adopted is the following: we first define the relationship between the terminologies used in this paper, briefly introduce the queue, delay, and loss characteristics-- a subset of network characteristics that can be used to describe the behavior of network entities, and give their mathematical description. Next, we present a method that would be a successful case study based on the NS simulation technique and simulation-based comparisons of AQM schemes chosen, which will help understand how they differ from in terms of per-node queueing information and per-flow end-to-end behavior. Simulation results showed that PI schemes, a feedback-based mechanism, can assist delay sensitive applications to adapt dynamically to underlying network and to stabilize the end-to-end QoS within an acceptable requirement. To understand this attribute and behavior is important for the proper design of queue disciplines, for the provisioning of queues and link capacity, and for choosing parameters in simulation

A study of the effects of affordances and constraints on userā€™s usage of travel-related WeChat mini programs

    Get PDF
WeChat has been integrated into the daily lives of Chinese people, including travel. This study adopts affordance theory to examine the influences of affordances and constraints on usersā€™ usage of travel-related WeChat mini programs. We plan to conduct a survey of users who have used at least one travel-related mini program. We hope this research can provide both theoretical implications to tourism literature and practical implications for tourism service providers as well as designers of travelrelated mini programs
