The article presents theoretical foundations for prediction of service life of mechanical products, based on the fatigue theory and fatigue limit. Ultimate amplitude and ultimate stress diagrams are presented. Wohler curve, characterizing material durability, is constructed on the results of the tests

Methods to Predict Stresses in Cutting Inserts Brazed Using Iron-Carbon Brazing Alloy

    Get PDF
This work describes a method for predicting residual and operating stresses in a flat-form tool insert made of tungsten free carbides brazed using iron-carbon alloy. According to the studies' results it is concluded that the recommendations relating to the limitation of a melting point of tool brazing alloys (950-1100Β°Π‘ according to different data) are connected with a negative impact on tools as a composite made of dissimilar materials rather than on hard alloys as a tool material. Due to the cooling process stresses inevitably occur in the brazed joint of dissimilar materials, and these stresses increase with the higher solidification temperature of the brazing alloy

Analysis of the Retailoring Methods and the Workability of Deposited Surfaces

    Get PDF
This work is devoted to the conduction of the analysis of methods and means of retailoring of parts in the conditions of technical repair facilities as well as of the workability of deposited surfaces. The results of the research show that the most important processing methods of reconditioning of component parts severely worn in the course of exploitation are various ways of deposit welding with subsequent mechanical handling. Furthermore, low efficiency of mechanical handling of retailored parts' surfaces is conditioned on their low workability that results from the specific status of weld pad

Methodology of strength calculation under alternating stresses using the diagram of limiting amplitudes

    Get PDF
The work proposes the algorithm to calculate strength under alternating stresses using the developed methodology of building the diagram of limiting stresses. The overall safety factor is defined by the suggested formula. Strength calculations of components working under alternating stresses in the great majority of cases are conducted as the checking ones. It is primarily explained by the fact that the overall fatigue strength reduction factor can only be chosen approximately during the component design as the engineer at this stage of work has just the approximate idea on the component size and shape

The effect of cutting conditions on power inputs when machining

    Get PDF
Any technological process involving modification of material properties or product form necessitates consumption of a certain power amount. When developing new technologies one should take into account the benefits of their implementation vs. arising power inputs. It is revealed that procedures of edge cutting machining are the most energy-efficient amongst the present day forming procedures such as physical and technical methods including electrochemical, electroerosion, ultrasound, and laser processing, rapid prototyping technologies etc, such as physical and technical methods including electrochemical, electroerosion, ultrasound, and laser processing, rapid prototyping technologies etc. An expanded formula for calculation of power inputs is deduced, which takes into consideration the mode of cutting together with the tip radius, the form of the replaceable multifaceted insert and its wear. Having taken as an example cutting of graphite iron by the assembled cutting tools with replaceable multifaceted inserts the authors point at better power efficiency of high feeding cutting in comparison with high-speed cutting
