Databases for Researching Athletic Training Literature

    Get PDF
Searching the athletic training literature can be confusing and overwhelming with many possible databases for locating relevant peer-reviewed scholarship. Finding evidence-based literature from respected publications is helpful in clinical decision-making for athletic training practitioners. This column details recommended databases and search tips to help students, staff, clinicians, and faculty in the field of athletic training find the literature they need to help make evidence-based decisions and to stay current with the published literature. Databases discussed include Cochrane, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, CINAHL, PEDro, Sports Medicine, and Education Index (formerly Physical Education Index), and Google Scholar

Academic Libraries and Athletic Training: Research Preferences of Athletic Training Students

    Get PDF
To ensure academic standards are met for athletic training curriculums, it is essential that librarians and faculty understand student research habits and information literacy instruction preferences. This article provides results from a survey of undergraduate athletic training students conducted at two universities. Athletic training students prefer information literacy instruction at the beginning of the semester. When seeking research assistance, students ask their classmates first, followed by friends and Google. Most students spend up to 60 minutes researching online before seeking assistance and prefer in-person communication for assistance from the library followed by email

Analysis of magnetic activity of the rapidly rotating stars He 373 and AP 225

© 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.Spectroscopic and photometric data for the two rapidly rotating members of the α Persei cluster He 373 and AP 225 are analyzed. Improved estimates have been obtained for the projected equatorial rotation velocities: v sin i = 164 km/s for He 323 and v sin i = 129 km/s for AP 225. Multi-band photometric mapping is used to map the spot distributions on the surfaces of the two stars. The fractional spotted areas S and mean temperature difference ΔT between the unspotted photosphere and the spots are estimated (S = 7% and ΔT = 1000 K for He 373; S = 9% and ΔT = 800 K for AP 225). The Hα line profiles of both stars have variable emission components whose widths are used to deduce the presence of extended regions of emission reaching the corotation radius

Graduate Occupational Therapy Students: Communication and Research Preferences from Three University Libraries

    Get PDF
Library liaisons from three universities distributed an anonymous survey to graduate occupational therapy students to gauge preferred methods of communication when conducting research. This article discusses three findings: whom the students prefer to turn to when seeking research assistance, which methods of communication students prefer, and how long students spend searching before asking for assistance. From 193 responses, the liaisons reasoned that students prefer consulting with their peers before seeking help from librarians or faculty or instructors and they 2 prefer assistance face-to-face. Additionally, the majority are willing to research from 30 minutes to 1 hour before seeking research help

Mechanisms of DNA Mobilization and Sequestration

    Get PDF
The entire genome becomes mobilized following DNA damage. Understanding the mechanisms that act at the genome level requires that we embrace experimental and computational strategies to capture the behavior of the long-chain DNA polymer, which is the building block for the chromosome. Long-chain polymers exhibit constrained, sub-diffusive motion in the nucleus. Cross-linking proteins, including cohesin and condensin, have a disproportionate effect on genome organization in their ability to stabilize transient interactions. Cross-linking proteins can segregate the genome into sub-domains through polymer–polymer phase separation (PPPS) and can drive the formation of gene clusters through small changes in their binding kinetics. Principles from polymer physics provide a means to unravel the mysteries hidden in the chains of life

External control during RWD/RWE research: a methodological approach

    Get PDF
At the moment, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the gold standard for providing evidence of the effectiveness and safety of medicines. If it is impossible to randomize and create an internal control group, alternative methods of collecting evidence are used, for example, the use of so-called external control groups created, among other things, based on real world data (RWD). The increase in the number of studies using RWD and external control is clearly visible in oncology, where there are problems with randomization classically. Meanwhile, this trend is of concern and requires a better understanding of the acceptability of using external control groups and validation of RWD

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs’ adverse drug reactions: 10 years of national database data

    Get PDF
The group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs has occupied one of the leading positions in terms of demand by the population over the past decade. This fact is explained by non-prescription sale, a wide range of purposes and an affordable price range. The lack of proper control over the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) greatly complicates the assessment of safety, timely detection and prevention of events associated with patient’ safety. Target. Evaluation of data from the national pharmacovigilance database of the safety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Materials and methods. This is a cross-sectional study covering the period from 2010 till 2020. The assessment of the safety profile of international non-proprietary names (INN) from the group of NSAIDs at the post-registration stage was carried out according to the data of uploading the national database (Automated Information System of Roszdravnadzor; AIS RZN), as well as PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, Elibrary databases. Conclusions. Over a ten-year period, the number of registered spontaneous messages was 8,334. With regard to the three international generic names, the number of adverse drug reactions prevails - this is metamizole (1875 (22.5 %)), acetylsalicylic acid (1716 (20.6 %)), diclofenac (979 (11.7 %)). The main system organ class with safety-related events are described for skin and subcutaneous structures. This fact is not consistent with the data of reference sources of information, which indicates the ineffectiveness of post-marketing observations by marketing authorization holders

Assessment of the economic feasibility of gadoversetamida (OptiMARK) MRI with intravenous contrast

    Get PDF
Gadolinium based contrast agents are widely used in MRI in a diagnostic of variety of pathologies. The quality of contrast enhancement depends on the total dose. The aim of the study is to conduct a health economic evaluation of gadoversetamide (OptiMARK, Malickrodt Pharmaceuticals) in contrast enhanced MRI. The cost-effectiveness analysis, costminimizing analysis and sensitivity analysis and budget impact analysis were used modeling contrast enhanced MRI. In results, we can say that OptiMARK is cost-effective comparing to gadopentetic acid and gadobutrol
