    Students' Social and Emotional Competence Promoting Positive Social Relationships and Skills

    The current study examined causal relationships between social and emotional competence and social relationships and skills in the classroom. Participants were 2,410 third- to ninth-grade students and they responded to the scales of social and emotional competence (SEC), self-esteem, and normative behavior. The classroom teachers rated their normative behavior in the classes. The results indicated that perceived SEC has influences on children's actual normative behavior through self-esteem and perceived normative behavior, and that self-esteem partly mediates the cause-and-effect process between perceived SEC and perceived normative behavior. The same causal structure was found among both elementary school students (third to sixth grades) and junior high school students (seventh to ninth grades), with age-related differences in some path coefficients. The findings support that SEC enhancement by social and emotional learning brings positive outcomes in students' perception and social relationships and skills

    Variable Shape Attitude Control Demonstration with Microsat Hibari

    This paper presents the ongoing feasibility study and bus system for microsatellite “Hibari”. The main technical missions for Hibari is called “Variable Shape Attitude Control (VSAC)”. This VSAC is based on an idea to utilize a reaction torque when a part of the satellite structure, for example, solar array paddles is appropriately rotated by actuators. The previous research concluded that VSAC successfully achieved the rapid maneuvering while maintain the high attitude stability against disturbances [1], and thus, it can be applied to a variety of advanced attitude control missions. Hibari project also aims at its application to astronomical mission requiring high pointing stability and agile maneuvering. This paper is mainly comprised of 3 parts: detail mission statement, ongoing feasibility studies and bus system configuration. First, we mention the mission requirement and detail mission sequence for both technical and science missions. Second, we show the ongoing feasibility studies to confirm that all mission requirement is satisfied by VSAC. Third, this paper describes each subsystem configuration to meet the system requirement stated in the mission’s section. And then, we wrap up in the conclusion section and stated the future study for advanced VSAC use in the end

    Development of Attitude Sensor using Deep Learning

    A new method for attitude determination utilizing color earth images taken with COTS visible light camera is presented. The traditional earth camera has been used for coarse attitude determination by detecting the edge of the earth, and therefore it can only provide coarse and 2-axis information. In contrast, our method recognizes the ground pattern with an accuracy of sub-degrees and can provide 3-axis attitude information by comparing the detected ground pattern and the global map. Moreover, this method has advantages in the size, mass and cost of the detector system which consists of a cheap optical color camera and a single board computer. To demonstrate the method in space, we have developed a sensor system named “Deep Learning Attitude Sensor (DLAS)”. DLAS uses COTS camera modules and single board computers to reduce the cost. The obtained images are promptly analyzed with a newly developed real-time image recognition algorithms

    Description and Discussion on DCASE 2022 Challenge Task 2: Unsupervised Anomalous Sound Detection for Machine Condition Monitoring Applying Domain Generalization Techniques

    We present the task description and discussion on the results of the DCASE 2022 Challenge Task 2: ``Unsupervised anomalous sound detection (ASD) for machine condition monitoring applying domain generalization techniques''. Domain shifts are a critical problem for the application of ASD systems. Because domain shifts can change the acoustic characteristics of data, a model trained in a source domain performs poorly for a target domain. In DCASE 2021 Challenge Task 2, we organized an ASD task for handling domain shifts. In this task, it was assumed that the occurrences of domain shifts are known. However, in practice, the domain of each sample may not be given, and the domain shifts can occur implicitly. In 2022 Task 2, we focus on domain generalization techniques that detects anomalies regardless of the domain shifts. Specifically, the domain of each sample is not given in the test data and only one threshold is allowed for all domains. Analysis of 81 submissions from 31 teams revealed two remarkable types of domain generalization techniques: 1) domain-mixing-based approach that obtains generalized representations and 2) domain-classification-based approach that explicitly or implicitly classifies different domains to improve detection performance for each domain.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2106.0449

    Increased abundance of Ruminococcus gnavus in gut microbiota is associated with moyamoya disease and non-moyamoya intracranial large artery disease

    Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebrovascular disease endemic in East Asia. The p.R4810K mutation in RNF213 gene confers a risk of MMD, but other factors remain largely unknown. We tested the association of gut microbiota with MMD. Fecal samples were collected from 27 patients with MMD, 7 patients with non-moyamoya intracranial large artery disease (ICAD) and 15 control individuals with other disorders, and 16S rRNA were sequenced. Although there was no difference in alpha diversity or beta diversity between patients with MMD and controls, the cladogram showed Streptococcaceae was enriched in patient samples. The relative abundance analysis demonstrated that 23 species were differentially abundant between patients with MMD and controls. Among them, increased abundance of Ruminococcus gnavus > 0.003 and decreased abundance of Roseburia inulinivorans < 0.002 were associated with higher risks of MMD (odds ratio 9.6, P = 0.0024; odds ratio 11.1, P = 0.0051). Also, Ruminococcus gnavus was more abundant and Roseburia inulinivorans was less abundant in patients with ICAD than controls (P = 0.046, P = 0.012). The relative abundance of Ruminococcus gnavus or Roseburia inulinivorans was not different between the p.R4810K mutant and wildtype. Our data demonstrated that gut microbiota was associated with both MMD and ICAD

    Clinical Outcomes of Cetuximab and Paclitaxel after Progression on Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Recurrent or Metastatic Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    Background and Objectives: In recent years, the effectiveness of chemotherapy after immune checkpoint inhibitor administration has attracted attention in various cancers, including head and neck cancers. However, individual assessments of the administered chemotherapy regimens are insufficient. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy after immune checkpoint inhibitor administration in recurrent metastatic head and neck cancer by focusing on a single regimen. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed clinical and radiological data from the medical records of 18 patients with recurrent or metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) who received systemic chemotherapy with weekly cetuximab and paclitaxel (Cmab + PTX) after progression following immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. The objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were assessed using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Adverse events (AEs) were recorded using National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 4.0. Results: In all patients, the ORR, DCR, median PFS, and median OS were 44.4%, 72.2%, 3.8 months, and 9.6 months, respectively. Regarding AEs, three patients developed grade 3 neutropenia. Grade 3 anemia, paronychia, asthenia, and peripheral neuropathy were observed in one patient each. There were no treatment-related deaths. Conclusions: Cmab + PTX was shown to maintain high efficacy and acceptable safety for R/M HNSCC that progressed after ICI therapy. Further research is needed to establish optimal treatment sequences and drug combinations for recurrent R/M HNSCC

    Dysregulation of RNF213 promotes cerebral hypoperfusion

    RNF213 is a susceptibility gene for moyamoya disease, yet its exact functions remain unclear. To evaluate the role of RNF213 in adaptation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) under cerebral hypoperfusion, we performed bilateral common carotid artery stenosis surgery using external microcoils on Rnf213 knockout (KO) and vascular endothelial cell-specific Rnf213 mutant (human p.R4810K orthologue) transgenic (EC-Tg) mice. Temporal CBF changes were measured by arterial spin-labelling magnetic resonance imaging. In the cortical area, no significant difference in CBF was found before surgery between the genotypes. Three of eight (37.5%) KO mice died after surgery but all wild-type and EC-Tg mice survived hypoperfusion. KO mice had a significantly more severe reduction in CBF on day 7 than wild-type mice (KO, 29.7% of baseline level; wild-type, 49.3%; p = 0.038), while CBF restoration on day 28 was significantly impaired in both KO (50.0%) and EC-Tg (56.1%) mice compared with wild-type mice (69.5%; p = 0.031 and 0.037, respectively). Changes in the subcortical area also showed the same tendency as the cortical area. Additionally, histological analysis demonstrated that angiogenesis was impaired in both EC-Tg and KO mice. These results are indicative of the essential role of RNF213 in the maintenance of CBF

    Significant association of RNF213 p.R4810K, a moyamoya susceptibility variant, with coronary artery disease

    Background The genetic architecture of coronary artery disease has not been fully elucidated, especially in Asian countries. Moyamoya disease is a progressive cerebrovascular disease that is reported to be complicated by coronary artery disease. Because most Japanese patients with moyamoya disease carry the p.R4810K variant of the ring finger 213 gene (RNF213), this may also be a risk factor for coronary artery disease; however, this possibility has never been tested. Methods and results We genotyped the RNF213 p.R4810K variant in 956 coronary artery disease patients and 716 controls and tested the association between p.R4810K and coronary artery disease. We also validated the association in an independent population of 311 coronary artery disease patients and 494 controls. In the replication study, the p.R4810K genotypes were imputed from genome-wide genotyping data based on the 1000 Genomes Project. We used multivariate logistic regression analyses to adjust for well-known risk factors such as dyslipidemia and smoking habits. In the primary study population, the frequency of the minor variant allele was significantly higher in patients with coronary artery disease than in controls (2.04% vs. 0.98%), with an odds ratio of 2.11 (p = 0.017). Under a dominant model, after adjustment for risk factors, the association remained significant, with an odds ratio of 2.90 (95% confidence interval: 1.37-6.61; p = 0.005). In the replication study, the association was significant after adjustment for age and sex (odds ratio = 4.99; 95% confidence interval: 1.16-21.53; p = 0.031), although it did not reach statistical significance when further adjusted for risk factors (odds ratio = 3.82; 95% confidence interval: 0.87-16.77; p = 0.076). Conclusions The RNF213 p.R4810K variant appears to be significantly associated with coronary artery disease in the Japanese population
