    Temporal Expressions in Polish Corpus KPWrThis article presents the result of the recent research in the interpretation of Polish expressions that refer to time. These expressions are the source of information when something happens, how often something occurs or how long something lasts. Temporal information, which can be extracted from text automatically, plays significant role in many information extraction systems, such as question answering, discourse analysis, event recognition and many more. We prepared PLIMEX — a broad description of Polish temporal expressions with annotation guidelines, based on the state-of-the-art solutions for English, mainly TimeML specification. We also adapted the solution to capture the local semantics of temporal expressions, called LTIMEX. Temporal description also supports further event identification and extends event description model, focusing at anchoring events in time, ordering events and reasoning about the persistence of events. We prepared the specification, which is designed to address these issues and we annotated all documents in Polish Corpus of Wroclaw University of Technology (KPWr) using our annotation guidelines

    Towards an event annotated corpus of PolishThe paper presents a typology of events built on the basis of TimeML specification adapted to Polish language. Some changes were introduced to the definition of the event categories and a motivation for event categorization was formulated. The event annotation task is presented on two levels – ontology level (language independent) and text mentions (language dependant). The various types of event mentions in Polish text are discussed. A procedure for annotation of event mentions in Polish texts is presented and evaluated. In the evaluation a randomly selected set of documents from the Corpus of Wrocław University of Technology (called KPWr) was annotated by two linguists and the annotator agreement was calculated. The evaluation was done in two iterations. After the first evaluation we revised and improved the annotation procedure. The second evaluation showed a significant improvement of the agreement between annotators. The current work was focused on annotation and categorisation of event mentions in text. The future work will be focused on description of event with a set of attributes, arguments and relations

    Ischiofemoral impingement syndrome : a case report and a review of literature

    BACKGROUND: Ischiofemoral impingement syndrome is characterized by a hip pain associated with abnormalities in quadriceps femoris muscle and ipsilaterally reduced distance between the lesser trochanter and the ischium. Thus far, the congenital variant of this entity has been reported exclusively in women. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 22-year old male with painful hips in whom on the basis of the imaging studies the constitutional variant of ischiofemoral impingement was diagnosed. CONCLUSIONS: Ischiofemoral conflict should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of hip pain, particularly among women, but also in patients with valgus hip deformity and other abnormalities leading to reduction of the space between femoral and ischial bones independent of gender

    Migrants vs. stayers in the pandemic – A sentiment analysis of Twitter content

    In this paper, we propose a sentiment analysis of Twitter data focused on the attitudes and sentiments of Polish migrants and stayers during the pandemic. We collected 9 million tweets and retweets between January and August 2021, and analysed them using MultiEmo, the multilingual, multilevel, multi-domain sentiment analysis corpus. We discovered that the sentiment of tweets differs between migrants and stayers over time, and it relates to the country of migration. The general sentiment is similar for migrants and stayers, but a more detailed analysis reveals that hashtags related to staying safe and staying at home, as well as vaccinations are more polarised for migrants than for stayers, and they reflect the general development trend of the pandemic in Europe. In addition to comparing migrants with stayers, we also compared migrants staying in different countries. amongst the countries of migration, for which we collected at least 3000 tweets, the most positive sentiment of Polish migrants’ tweets was observed in Belgium, with the most negative sentiment coming from Estonia. We also observed that the sentiment of tweets written in Polish by stayers in Poland is less negative when compared to Polish migrants in most of the countries with the highest number of tweets

    The influence of a dental formulation prepared with chitosan on the pharmaceutical availability of clotrimazole

    The present work involves the development of a dental gel composition obtained on the basis of clotrimazole incorporated into chitosan in order to improve drug solubility. Solid dispersions were prepared by using two methods: grinding and kneading. The solid dispersion varied the ratio of chitosan to drug to increase the volume of the drug; the ratios were 5:5, 3:7, 2:8, 1:9. The mixtures were subjected to the dissolution rate of clotrimazole. The presence of chitosan improved the drug solubility; a better solubility from the solid dispersion prepared by the grinding method was obtained from the ratio of drug to polymer of 1+9. The rate of dissolution of clotrimazole was improved 17 times compared to the pure drug. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (both infrared and X-ray diffraction) revealed no new chemical structure of the tested connections and concluded that there was no interaction between the drug and the polymer in the test diffractions. Solid dispersions with the best parameters were used to prepare hydrogels, and the pharmaceutical availability of clotrimazole was analysed. The best properties were characterized by a hydrogel that was composed of the ratio of the amount of drug to polymer 5:5. The study demonstrated the availability of a pharmaceutical drug release at a therapeutic concentration in the first hour of the study. The use of the appropriate balance between clotrimazole and chitosan and the development of the hydrogel composition may affect the improvement of the drug solubility and may create the possibility of obtaining sustained or controlled release of the drug substance

    Three attempts in PolEval 2017 sentiment analysis task

    In this paper we present our attempts in the PolEval 2017 Sentiment Analysis Task. The task is not only one of the first challenges in sentiment analysis focused on Polish language, but also represents a novel approach to sentiment analysis, namely, predicting the sentiment not of a sentence, or a document, but of a word or a phrase within the context of a sentence. This makes typical approaches, such as sentiment dictionaries, inapplicable or greatly limited, and forces the development of novel approaches taking advantage of the whole sentence context. The presented and evaluated approaches include a multiclass machine learning approach, a context-based dictionary look-up approach and a Jaccard index-based method with a bag of features
