Off-Shell Electromagnetic Form Fators of the Nucleon in Chiral Perturbation Theory
We study the electromagnetic form factors of a nucleon in next-to-leading
order chiral perturbation theory (CPT) in the case where one of the nucleons is
off its mass shell. We calculate the leading nonanalytic contributions to
relevant measures for the off-shell dependence in the limited kinematical range

Nimbus 6 Doppler processing using the Fairbanks calibration platform
A weighted least squares processor is examined. Research conducted in support of the NASA satellite aided Search and Rescue program is presented. An estimated NIMBUS 6 ephemeris, accurate to 1.5-2.5 km and 0.5-2.5 m/s relative to a reference orbit, is obtained during the three day signal transmission period. This suggests updating the knowledge of the relay satellite ephemeris by one reference beacon is needed during the Search and Rescue demonstration
Non-equilibrium dynamics in the dual-wavelength operation of Vertical external-cavity surface-emitting lasers
Microscopic many-body theory coupled to Maxwell's equation is used to
investigate dual-wavelength operation in vertical external-cavity
surface-emitting lasers. The intrinsically dynamic nature of coexisting
emission wavelengths in semiconductor lasers is associated with characteristic
non-equilibrium carrier dynamics which causes significant deformations of the
quasi-equilibrium gain and carrier inversion. Extended numerical simulations
are employed to efficiently investigate the parameter space to identify the
regime for two-wavelength operation. Using a frequency selective intracavity
etalon, two families of modes are stabilized with dynamical interchange of the
strongest emission peaks. For this operation mode, anti-correlated intensity
noise is observed in agreement with the experiment. A method using effective
frequency selective filtering is suggested for stabilization genuine

The 'gated-diode' configuration in MOSFET's, a sensitive tool for characterizing hot-carrier degradation
This paper describes a new measurement technique, the forward gated-diode current characterized at low drain voltages to be applied in MOSFET's for investigating hot-carrier stress-induced defects at high spatial resolution. The generation/recombination current in the drain-to-substrate diode as a function of gate voltage, combined with two-dimensional numerical simulation, provides a sensitive tool for detecting the spatial distribution and density of interface defects. In the case of strong accumulation, additional information is obtained from interband tunneling processes occurring via interface defects. The various mechanisms for generating interface defects and fixed charges at variable stress conditions are discussed, showing that information complementary to that available from other methods is obtaine
Mode-locking in vertical external-cavity surface-emitting lasers with type-II quantum-well configurations
A microscopic study of mode-locked pulse generation is presented for vertical
external-cavity surface-emitting lasers utilizing type-II quantum well
configurations. The coupled Maxwell semiconductor Bloch equations are solved
numerically where the type-II carrier replenishment is modeled via suitably
chosen reservoirs. Conditions for stable mode-locked pulses are identified
allowing for pulses in the \unit[100]{fs} range. Design strategies for type-II
configurations are proposed that avoid potentially unstable pulse dynamics.Comment: Main paper with supplementary material

Gain spectroscopy of a type-II VECSEL chip
Using optical pump-white light probe spectroscopy the gain dynamics is
investigated for a VECSEL chip which is based on a type-II heterostructure. The
active region the chip consists of a GaAs/(GaIn)As/Ga(AsSb)/(GaIn)As/GaAs
multiple quantum well. For this structure, a fully microscopic theory predicts
a modal room temperature gain at a wavelength of 1170 nm, which is confirmed by
experimental spectra. The results show a gain buildup on the type-II chip which
is delayed relative to that of a type-I chip. This slower gain dynamics is
attributed to a diminished cooling rate arising from reduced electron-hole

A Renormalization Group for Hamiltonians: Numerical Results
We describe a renormalization group transformation that is related to the
breakup of golden invariant tori in Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of
freedom. This transformation applies to a large class of Hamiltonians, is
conceptually simple, and allows for accurate numerical computations. In a
numerical implementation, we find a nontrivial fixed point and determine the
corresponding critical index and scaling. Our computed values for various
universal constants are in good agreement with existing data for
area-preserving maps. We also discuss the flow associated with the nontrivial
