Can We Have Some Privacy?

Privacy, as its English usage suggests, is a place and a possession as much as an idea or abstract right – a physical realm supposedly separate from public view. In a world in which technology permeates the personal, the everyday, the intimate, what meaning does this value have? Where privacy is voluntarily surrendered, what is it worth to individuals? And where the internet makes possible mass surveillance, what protections are there for the space, and the experience, of privacy? This conference examines not only the legal arrangements affecting privacy – and the time-lag between law and technological advance – but privacy as a philosophical concept and a cultural tenet. What divisions of activity and status created the idea of &#8216;privacy&#8217; in the first instance? Is it a disappearing value, or is its erosion a source of crisis? La RDA 1949-1990. Du stalinisme à la liberté

L'Institut d'Allemand d'Asnières a organisé en novembre 1989 un colloque sur la RDA. Certaines des interventions, d'autres études dues à des spécialistes de l'Allemagne ainsi que des documents récents (déclarations de F. Mitterrand, H. Kohl, H. Modrow) sont reproduits dans ce volume qui fait le point jusqu'aux élections du 18 mars 1990. Après une intro­duction historique, plusieurs contributions analysent les événements de 1989-1990 qui ont fait évoluer le régime vers la démocratie. Sont traités ensuite des aspects sociaux, économiques et culturels de la RDA et son insertion dans le contexte international. Bibliographie, cartes et tableaux.After a historical introduction, several contributions analyze the 1989 – 1990 events that lead the regime to democracy. The social, economic and cultural aspects of the GDR and its insertion in the international context will then be discussed. The studies from specialists of Germany reproduced here are accompanied by numerous recent documents (for example, declarations from F. MITTERRAND, H. KOHL, H. MODROW), statistics (18 mars 1990 election), maps, charts and an extensive bibliography
