Morphological-developmental reaction and productivity of plants and canopy of semileafless pea (Pisum sativum L.) after seed vaccination with Rhizobium and foliar micronutrient fertilization
The determinants of semileafless peas (Pisum sativum> L., cv. Tarchalska) crop productivity were studied during two vegetative seasons: cool 2010 and warm 2011 in south part of Poland (Modzurów 50°09’N 18°07’E; 274 m. a.s.l.. Peas was treated either with seed vaccine (NitraginaTM) containing Rhizobium bacteria or foliar micronutrient fertilizer (PhotrelTM) or both of them. The range of peas response to treatments included biometrical measurements and also the measurements of vegetation indices namely, green area index (GAI), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and relative chlorophyll content (SPAD), carried out in the specific stages of development, which for the compared objects were generally insignifi cant. In the warmer growing season, pea plants grew better, what resulted in a very high yield of seeds per plant, determined by a greater number of large seeds. It was shown that the length and weight of pea pod and the number of seeds formed in the pod depends on its position on the particular node. The longest pods, characterized by the greatest weight and number of seeds, developed on the lower nodes: 1st and 2nd one. The pea pods forming on higher nodes, from the 3rd, had reduced number of fruits and the weight of a single seed. The shortest pods were growing out of the 5th and 6th nodes, at the top of the stem. Analysis of the single pea seed mass shows a highly significant effect of its position in the fruit on pod productivity. Seeds located in the central part of the pod had the greatest mass, and this accuracy, as highly significant, was found for the pods containing from 3 to 8 seeds. The tested agrochemical treatments did not differentiate the chemical composition of seeds

Abstract . Effects of heavy metals from polluted soils on the roots and nodules formation. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., Intensive development of transport in suburban areas contributes to excessive accumulation of heavy metals in cultivable soils. The negative effect of heavy metals on legumes becomes apparent in specifi c concentrations in the soils, hence it is not always possible to determine direct harm of environment to the growth of plants root system. The aim of the research was to evaluate the impact of soil conditions on root system weight, weight and number of root nodules in different legumes species; fi eld pea (Pisum sativum) and spring vetch (Vicia sativa). Additionally, we assess the degree of metals accumulation in roots dry mass. Research studies have shown that an increase in heavy metals content in agricultural soils in an urbanized area results in a decrease in microbiological activity of soils, their fertility, and in consequence a decrease in plants productivity. Metals pollution of soils resulted in deterioration of biometrical parameters of the root system and deterioration of effi ciency of the symbiotic system. Field pea showed little sensitivity to the presence of heavy metals in the soil. Spring vetch was more sensitive to soil pollution, developing lesser root mass. Field pea was less sensitive to the cultivation station, the effect of which was a lower level of zinc, chromium and nickel accumulation. Moreover, fi eld pea showed high detoxifi cation capacity, accumulating a large amount of lead in the roots
Wpływ szczepienia Rhizobium oraz dolistnego nawożenia na potencjał produkcyjny grochu siewnego (Pisum sativum L.)
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is the second most important
grain legume crop in the world which has a wide array of uses
for human food and fodder. One of the major factors that determines
the use of field pea is the yield potential of cultivars.
Presently, pre-sowing inoculation of pea seeds and foliar application
of microelement fertilizers are prospective solutions
and may be reasonable agrotechnical options. This research
was undertaken because of the potentially high productivity
of the ‘afila’ morphotype in good wheat complex soils. The
aim of the study was to determine the effect of vaccination
with Rhizobium and foliar micronutrient fertilization on yield
of the afila pea variety. The research was based on a two-
-year (2009–2010) controlled field experiment, conducted in
four replicates and carried out on the experimental field of the
Bayer company located in Modzurów, Silesian region. experimental
field soil was Umbrisol – slightly degraded chernozem,
formed from loess. Nitragina inoculant, as a source of
symbiotic bacteria, was applied before sowing seeds. Green
area index (GAI) of the canopy, photosynthetically active radiation
(PAR), and normalized difference vegetation index
(NDVI) were determined at characteristic growth stages. The
presented results of this study on symbiotic nitrogen fixation
by leguminous plants show that the combined application of
Nitragina and Photrel was the best combination for productivity.
Remote measurements of the pea canopy indexes indicated
the formation of the optimum leaf area which effectively used
photosynthetically active radiation. The use of Nitragina as
a donor of effective Rhizobium for pea plants resulted in slightly
higher GAI values and the optimization of PAR and NDVI.
It is not recommended to use foliar fertilizers or Nitragina separately
due to the slowing of pea productivity.
nasion grochu i dolistne dokarmianie roślin nawozem
mikroelementowym to rozwiązania perspektywiczne
dla rolnictwa. Podjęcie badań wynika z potencjalnie
dużego znaczenia morfotypu wąsolistnego w warunkach
gleb dobrych (pszennych), którego uprawę w tych
warunkach siedliska należy rozwijać, uzyskując przy
niej jak najlepszą efektywność ekonomiczną. Celem
badań było określenie wpływu szczepienia bakteriami
Rizobium i nawożenia dolistnego mikroelementami
na plonowanie wąsolistnej odmiany grochu siewnego
‘Tarchalska’. Ścisłe doświadczenie polowe prowadzono
w latach 2009–2010, na polu doświadczalnym firmy
Bayer® zlokalizowanym w miejscowości Modzurów,
woj. śląskie.
Doświadczenie polowe prowadzono na czarnoziemie
słabo zdegradowanym, wytworzonym z lessu,
zaliczanym do kompleksu pszennego dobrego i II-giej
klasy bonitacyjnej. Bezpośrednio przed siewem nasiona
grochu zaszczepiono bakteriami Rizobium (Nitragina).
Oznaczano w charakterystycznych fazach rozwojowych
grochu indeks zielonej powierzchni liści
łanu (GAI), fotosyntetycznie czynną radiację (PAR)
i różnicowy znormalizowany indeks wegetacji (NDVI).
Łączna aplikacja szczepionki bakteryjnej Nitragina
i nawozu dolistnego Photrel była najlepszą kombinacją
dla produkcyjności. Zdalne pomiary wskaźników łanu
grochu wskazały wykształcenie optymalnej zielonej
powierzchni asymilacyjnej, która sprawnie wykorzystywała
fotosyntetycznie czynną radiację. Zastosowanie
nitraginy jako donora efektywnych Rhizobium dla
grochu sprawiło, że w tych obiektach uzyskano większy
GAI i konsekwentnie PAR, ale różnice międzyobiektowe
pozostały statystycznie nieistotne
Porównanie wzrostu i produkcyjności niskomorfinowego maku (Papaver somniferum L.) odm. Mieszko w zależności od terminu siewu
A single-factor field experiment was conducted in 2008
and 2009. The aim of this study was to evaluate the low-morphine
poppy cv. Mieszko which was sown at three different dates:
I-early, II-optimal, III-delayed. The results of the experiment
demonstrate that there is no difference between morphological
traits at characteristic growth stages. Plants in the population
varied in the number of poppy heads (from 1 to 6). Plant productivity
in the crop depended on the sowing date and growing
year. Sowing poppy at the early and optimal date allowed more
productive individuals that produced poppy heads with a higher
unit weight to be obtained in the crop population. The most productive
plants in the crop formed 3 or more poppy heads per
plant. The results of experiment proved that the date of poppy
sowing had a significant effect on plant growth and, as a consequence,
on yield, in spite of the fact that it is a no-cost agrotechnical
factor. For utilitarian reasons, efforts should be made to do
sowing at the optimal time.Jednoczynnikowe doświadczenie polowe z terminami
siewu maku, niskomorfinowej odm. Mieszko,
(L-M P) przeprowadzono w latach 2008-2009.
Porównano trzy terminy siewu maku: I – wczesny;
II – optymalny; III – opóźniony. Stwierdzono, że termin
siewu nie oddziaływał istotnie na cechy morfologiczne
roślin maku w charakterystycznych fazach
wzrostu. Wykazano występowanie w łanie maku
populacji roślin różniących się liczbą wykształconych
makówek od 1 do 6. Intensywność wydzielania się
w łanie zróżnicowanych rozwojowo i produkcyjnie
grup roślin L-M P, zależała od terminu siewu i lat
wegetacji. Wysiew maku w terminach wczesnym
lub optymalnym umożliwił uzyskanie w populacji
łanu roślin wykształcających makówki o większej
jednostkowej masie, które były bardziej produktywne.
Rośliny maku o trzech i więcej makówkach,
w znaczącym stopniu kreowały plonowanie z jednostki
powierzchni. Udowodniono, że termin siewu maku,
pomimo że jest beznakładowym czynnikiem agrotechnicznym,
ma znaczący wpływ na rozwój roślin,
co w konsekwencji przenosiło się na plonowanie.
Z utylitarnych względów należy dążyć do przeprowadzenia
siewu L-M P w terminie optymalnym
Biologiczno-produkcyjna reakcja grochu, pszenicy i lnu uprawianych w siewie mieszanym
Given the growing interest in ecological intensification directed towards sustainable crop production, a study was conducted to assess the biological and production response of pea intercropped with spring wheat or linseed under various growing conditions. The experiment was conducted in 2009–2011 on a Haplic Phaeozem soil in the western part of Poland. Intercropping of pea significantly reduced the green area index and the normalized difference vegetation index values, but growing pea with linseed caused a significant increase in the number of nodes with pods, pods per stem, and seeds per stem. Intercropping with wheat increased the seed number per pod. Seed inoculation with Nitragina significantly increased the number of pea pods and seeds per stem. Wheat intercropped with pea, with inoculation and foliar fertilization, attained significantly lower straw weight and spike length. Intercropping of linseed significantly reduced the features of the yield structure. Bacterial inoculation increased the production potential of pea at the expense of the supporting plants.W ostatnich latach obserwuje się istotny wzrost zainteresowania koncepcją intensyfikacji eko-
logicznej ukierunkowaną na bioróżnorodność pól uprawnych. Dlatego celem pracy była ocena
reakcji biologiczno-produkcyjnej grochu uprawianego w siewie mieszanym z pszenicą jarą lub
lnem oleistym, w różnych warunkach siedliska. Doświadczenie wykonano w latach 2009–2011 na
glebie czarnoziemnej w Stacji Doświadczalnej w Modzurowie (Polska). W badaniach wykazano,
że siew mieszany grochu istotnie zmniejszył wartości GAI (green area index– wskaźnik zielonej
powierzchni asymilacyjnej), NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index– znormalizowany
z pędu, a w mieszance z pszenicą wzrost liczby nasion w strąku.
Pszenica w siewie
mieszanym z grochem, przy uwzględnieniu nawożenia nalistnego i szczepienia, uzyskała istotnie
niższą masę słomy oraz długość kłosa. Uprawa lnu w siewie mieszanym skutkowała istotnym
zmniejszeniem cech struktury plonu. Szczepionka bakteryjna zwiększa potencjał produkcyjny
grochu kosztem rośliny podporowej
Comparison of morphological traits, productivity and canopy architecture of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) and white mustard (Sinapis alba L.)
In the years 2006-2008, comparative studies of productivity and plant architecture of open pollinated winter oilseed rape cv. NK Petrol and white mustard cv. Nakielska were undertaken. Morphological traits, including the stem architecture and display of the siliques of both species, were studied. The contribution of the fruiting part of the plant as well as the number of branches with siliques is higher in winter oilseed rape plants, compared to white mustard. The total number of siliques on lateral branches of oilseed rape is also significantly higher than for white mustard. For both species, lateral branches make a greater contribution to the yield of each single plant, but for white mustard this contribution is not as evident as for oilseed rape. Plants of winter rape have about 25% more siliques per stem unit in comparison to white mustard. Winter oilseed rape siliques contain on average 18.5 seeds. The mass of winter oilseed rape seeds per silique is strongly linearly correlated with seed biomass (R-2 = 0.95). However, the length of siliques in these species is poorly correlated with seed mass. The yield of winter oilseed rape is several times higher than that of white mustard; that of a single oilseed rape or white mustard plant is 13.8 g or 2.0 g, respectively. In a single plant of oilseed rape, larger yield is associated with the number of siliques on the lateral branches and further the total yield of a single oilseed rape plant with a predominance of very large, large and medium silique categories based on size. These silique categories constitute 67.7% of the fruits and account for 80.1% of the plant yield. For white mustard small, medium and large siliques predominate, comprising 76.7% of fruits, and account for 78.7% of the total yield
Wybrane aspekty uprawy i użytkowania kukurydzy woskowej (Zea mays L. spp. ceratina)
This paper is a review of available literature on Zea
mays L.ssp.ceratina. It contains information on the origin, cultivation
and utilization of waxy maize in the world and can be
a contribution to the development of new research on maize
cultivation and starch processing technology.
Maize, as an old and economically important cereal,
played an enormous role in the ancient civilisations of the New
World. Among the maize subspecies compared, Z. mays ssp.
indurata and Z. mays ssp. indentata are now the most important
in Poland. The subspecies Z. mays ssp. saccharata has
a marginal role, while Z. mays ssp. ceratina has not been hitherto
cultivated. Decisions to introduce the subspecies Z. mays
ssp. ceratina into cultivation are based on different grounds,
taking into account both agro-climatic conditions and industrial
uses of grain processing products. The growing demand
for maize grain, stimulated by the increased demand for maize
starch and oil in the global market as raw materials that are
important in food production, is an impulse for the development
of agrobiological research. The development of the starch
industry, associated with the demand for industrial starch, will
probably contribute to increased interest in this subspecies in
Central Europe, also including Poland. Waxy maize grain can
be a major ingredient of high-energy feeds for livestock, replacing
in this role the type of maize that has been grown for this
purpose until now.
A great advantage of waxy maize is its specific structure
of starch, due to its unique and high amylopectin content
(95-98%), which creates unlimited possibilities of industrial
use. Currently, waxy maize acreage in Europe does not exceed
2% of the maize crop area in this continent.Praca stanowi przegląd dostępnej literatury dotyczącej
Zea mays L. ssp. ceratina. Zawiera informacje
rozwoju nowych badań z zakresu uprawy i technologii
przetwórstwa skrobi.
Kukurydza jako stare i wiodące produkcyjnie
zboże odgrywała ogromną rolę w starożytnych cywilizacjach
Nowego Świata. Obecnie w Polsce z porównywanych
podgatunków kukurydzy największe
znaczenie mają Z. mays ssp. indurata oraz Z. mays
ssp. indentata. Niewielką pozycję ma podgatunek
Z. mays ssp. saccharata, a Z. mays ssp. ceratina nie
była dotychczas uprawiana. Decyzje o wprowadzeniu
do uprawy podgatunku Z. mays ssp. ceratina są
różnorodnej proweniencji, zarówno agroklimatycznej
jak i zastosowań przemysłowych produktów uzyskanych
z przerobu ziarna. Impulsem do rozwijania badań
Ziarno
kukurydzy woskowej może stanowić podstawowy
składnik pasz wysokoenergetycznych dla zwierząt gospodarskich,
zastępując w tej roli kukurydzę dotychczas
uprawianą do tych celów.
Dużym atutem kukurydzy woskowej jest specyficzna
budowa skrobi, z uwagi na unikatową i wysoką
zawartość amylopektyny (95-98%), co nadaje nieograniczone
możliwości wykorzystania przemysłowego.
Obecnie areał kukurydzy woskowej w Europie nie
przekracza 2% powierzchni zasiewów kukurydzy na
kontynencie
Biologiczne determinanty produktywności roślin i łanu formy oleistej lnu zwyczajnego (Linum usitatissimum L.)
In Poland the cultivation of the fibrous form of flax (Linum
usitatissimum L.) is dying out, but the acreage of its oilseed
form, linseed, which provides seed (Semen lini) used in therapy
and being a source of -linolenic acid, is expanding. Nowadays,
linseed is grown in 64 countries of the world, but yield levels in
these countries vary greatly. Under European conditions, seed
yield of linseed shows high variation, which is evidence of little
knowledge of the biology of this plant and the lack of precise
cultivation solutions in agricultural technologies used. A major
reason is the difficulty in obtaining optimal crop density.
A sparse crop results in low above-ground biomass yield, which
is translated into insufficient crop yields. The selection of highly
productive domestic and foreign varieties can partially increase
linseed yield; apart from some domestic varieties, the Canadian
cultivar ‘Flanders’ and the Hungarian cultivar ‘Barbara’ are positive
examples in this respect. There is a possibility of effective
selection at early stages of linseed breeding, which bodes well
for the prospect of obtaining highly productive varieties with
normal or very low -linolenic acid content.W Polsce powoli wygasa uprawa formy włóknistej
lnu zwyczajnego (Linum usitatissimum L.),
natomiast rozszerza się areał zasiewów formy oleistej,
dostarczającej nasion (Semen lini), wykorzystywanych
w lecznictwie i będących źródłem kwasu
-linolenowego.
‘Barbara’. Istnieje możliwość skutecznej pracy selekcyjnej
we wczesnych etapach hodowli lnu oleistego,
rokującej otrzymanie wysokoplennych odmian o normalnej
lub bardzo niskiej zawartości -linolenowego
