Formulas for precession
Literal expressions for the precessional motion of the mean equator referred to an arbitrary epoch are constructed. Their numerical representations, based on numerical values recommended at the working meeting of the International Astronomical Union Commission held in Washington in September 1974, are obtained. In constructing the equations of motion, the second-order secular perturbation and the secular perturbation due to the long-periodic terms in the motions of the moon and the sun are taken into account. These perturbations contribute more to the motion of the mean equator than does the term due to the secular perturbation of the orbital eccentricity of the sun
The Librating Companions in HD 37124, HD 12661, HD 82943, 47 Uma and GJ 876: Alignment or Antialignment?
We investigated the apsidal motion for the multi-planet systems. In the
simulations, we found that the two planets of HD 37124, HD 12661, 47 Uma and HD
82943 separately undergo apsidal alignment or antialignment. But the companions
of GJ 876 and And are only in apsidal lock about .
Moreover, we obtained the criteria with Laplace-Lagrange secular theory to
discern whether a pair of planets for a certain system are in libration or
circulation.Comment: 13 Pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, Published by ApJ Letters, 591, July 1,

Effects of applied pressure on hot-pressing of Beta-SiC
The effects of applied pressure on the densification during hot pressing of beta-SiC compacts were investigated. Beta-SiC powder is Starck made and has the average particle size of about 0.7 micrometer. Hot pressing experiments were carried out in graphite dies at temperatures of 1700 deg to 2300 deg C and at the pressures up to 1000 kg/sq cm. The compacts containing 1 weight percent B4C were examined. Sintered compacts were examined for microstructure and the Rockwell A-scale hardness was measured. The B4C addition was very effective to mitigate the hot pressing conditions. It is found that densification goes with the strengthening of the bonding and does not occur in particle deformation due to concentrated stress
Everyone Makes Mistakes - Including Feynman
This talk is dedicated to Alberto Sirlin in celebration of his seventieth
birthday. I wish to convey my deep appreciation of his many important
contributions to particle physics over 40 years and look forward to many more
years of productive research.Comment: 16 pages postscript, also available through

In-situ epitaxial growth of superconducting La-based bilayer cuprate thin films
We investigate the epitaxial growth of bilayer cuprate La2CaCu2O6+\delta
using pure ozone as an oxidant, and find that even the crystal with parent
composition without cation substitution can show metallic behavior with the aid
of epitaxial strain effect. The hole concentration is controlled simply by
excess-oxygen doping, and the films grown under the optimum conditions exhibit
superconductivity below 30 K. This is the first result on the superconductivity
of bilayer La2CaCu2O6+\delta induced purely by the excess oxygen.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, To appear in Phys. Rev. B, Rapid Communication
