The Stokes Phenomenon and Quantum Tunneling for de Sitter Radiation in Nonstationary Coordinates
We study quantum tunneling for the de Sitter radiation in the planar
coordinates and global coordinates, which are nonstationary coordinates and
describe the expanding geometry. Using the phase-integral approximation for the
Hamilton-Jacobi action in the complex plane of time, we obtain the
particle-production rate in both coordinates and derive the additional
sinusoidal factor depending on the dimensionality of spacetime and the quantum
number for spherical harmonics in the global coordinates. This approach

Molecular detection of Edwardsiella tarda with gyrB gene isolated from pirarucu, Arapaima gigas which is exhibited in an indoor private commercial aquarium
The pirarucu, Arapaima gigas, which was displayed in commercial aquarium was found dead and was submitted for diagnostic examination. Bacteria from different organs of the fish were characterized using Vitek SystemÂź2 and showed 98% probability to Edwardsiella tarda. Polymerase chain reaction(PCR) result showed positive for E. tarda gyrB gene. The 16S rRNA gene was identical and exhibited 99% sequence similarity with the other known isolates of E. tarda available in the GenBank. This paper reports the isolation and detection of E. tarda with the gyrB gene in pirarucu, A. gigas, which was exhibited in an indoor private commercial aquarium in Seoul, South Korea.Key words: Arapaima gigas, commercial aquarium, Edwardsiella tarda, gyrB gene, pirarucu
Caring for Alaska Native prostate cancer survivors in primary care: a survey of Alaska Tribal Health System providers.
BACKGROUND: Little is known about the constraints of optimizing health care for prostate cancer survivors in Alaska primary care. OBJECTIVE: To describe the experiences and attitudes of primary care providers within the Alaska Tribal Health System (ATHS) regarding the care of prostate cancer survivors. DESIGN: In late October 2011, we emailed a 22-item electronic survey to 268 ATHS primary care providers regarding the frequency of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) monitoring for a hypothetical prostate cancer survivor; who should be responsible for the patient's life-long prostate cancer surveillance; who should support the patient's emotional and medical needs as a survivor; and providers' level of comfort addressing recurrence monitoring, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, androgen deprivation therapy, and emotional needs. We used simple logistic regression to examine the association between provider characteristics and their responses to the survivorship survey items. RESULTS: Of 221 individuals who were successfully contacted, a total of 114 responded (52% response rate). Most ATHS providers indicated they would order a PSA test every 12 months (69%) and believed that, ideally, the hypothetical patient's primary care provider should be responsible for his life-long prostate cancer surveillance (60%). Most providers reported feeling either "moderately" or "very" comfortable addressing topics such as prostate cancer recurrence (59%), erectile dysfunction (64%), urinary incontinence (63%), and emotional needs (61%) with prostate cancer survivors. These results varied somewhat by provider characteristics including female sex, years in practice, and the number of prostate cancer survivors seen in their practice. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that most primary care providers in Alaska are poised to assume the care of prostate cancer survivors locally. However, we also found that large minorities of providers do not feel confident in their ability to manage common issues in prostate cancer survivorship, implying that continued access to specialists with more expert knowledge would be beneficial
Constraining compressed supersymmetry using leptonic signatures
We study the impact of the multi-lepton searches at the LHC on supersymmetric
models with compressed mass spectra. For such models the acceptances of the
usual search strategies are significantly reduced due to requirement of large
effective mass and missing E_T. On the other hand, lepton searches do have much
lower thresholds for missing E_T and p_T of the final state objects. Therefore,
if a model with a compressed mass spectrum allows for multi-lepton final
states, one could derive constraints using multi-lepton searches. For a class
of simplified models we study the exclusion limits using ATLAS multi-lepton
search analyses for the final states containing 2-4 electrons or muons with a
total integrated luminosity of 1-2/fb at \sqrt{s}=7 TeV. We also modify those
analyses by imposing additional cuts, so that their sensitivity to compressed
supersymmetric models increase. Using the original and modified analyses, we
show that the exclusion limits can be competitive with jet plus missing E_T
searches, providing exclusion limits up to gluino masses of 1 TeV. We also
analyse the efficiencies for several classes of events coming from different
intermediate state particles. This allows us to assess exclusion limits in
similar class of models with different cross sections and branching ratios
without requiring a Monte Carlo simulation.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
Multitask Learning on Graph Neural Networks: Learning Multiple Graph Centrality Measures with a Unified Network
The application of deep learning to symbolic domains remains an active
research endeavour. Graph neural networks (GNN), consisting of trained neural
modules which can be arranged in different topologies at run time, are sound
alternatives to tackle relational problems which lend themselves to graph
representations. In this paper, we show that GNNs are capable of multitask
learning, which can be naturally enforced by training the model to refine a
single set of multidimensional embeddings and decode them
into multiple outputs by connecting MLPs at the end of the pipeline. We
demonstrate the multitask learning capability of the model in the relevant
relational problem of estimating network centrality measures, focusing
primarily on producing rankings based on these measures, i.e. is vertex
more central than vertex given centrality ?. We then show that a GNN
can be trained to develop a \emph{lingua franca} of vertex embeddings from
which all relevant information about any of the trained centrality measures can
be decoded. The proposed model achieves accuracy on a test dataset of
random instances with up to 128 vertices and is shown to generalise to larger
problem sizes. The model is also shown to obtain reasonable accuracy on a
dataset of real world instances with up to 4k vertices, vastly surpassing the
sizes of the largest instances with which the model was trained ().
Finally, we believe that our contributions attest to the potential of GNNs in

The clinical usefulness of initial serum procalcitonin as an aggravation predictor in a hepatobiliary tract infection at emergency department
Background and Objectives: The ability to predict future clinical deterioration early in patients who present to an emergency care center with a hepatobiliary tract infection is difficult. We studied the clinical usefulness of the initial serum levels of procalcitonin in a hepatobiliary tract infection as an indicator for predicting aggravation in the early stages.Methods: Of the patients who presented with the clinical symptoms of a hepatobiliary tract infection, 99 were diagnosed with a hepatobiliary tract infection by imaging studies and subsequently enrolled in the study. Laboratory tests were obtained in the early stage of disease after presentation to an emergency care center. We assessed and compared the serum levels of many early inflammatory markers (white blood cell [WBC] counts, Câreactive protein and procalcitonin) between patients whose symptoms were initially stable upon arrival to an emergency care center but then deteriorated to, those whose symptoms remained consistently stable. Thus, we examined if the above serum markers are useful in predicting the possibility of future symptom aggravation.Results: Of a total of 99 patients, 27 were assigned to the symptom aggravation group. The serum levels of WBC counts and Câreactive protein in the aggravation group were elevated. However, the median value (interquartile range) of procalcitonin was relatively increased at 2.28 (0.41â7.84 ng/ml), demonstrating a significant difference.Conclusions: In conclusion, initial serum levels of procalcitonin might be used as an indicator for aggravation in patients with hepatobiliary tract infection at the emergency department, even though there is hemodynamic stability.Key words: Hepatobiliary tract, infection, procalcitoni
Physician and nurse knowledge about patient radiation exposure in the emergency department
Background: Imaging methods that use ionizing radiation in emergency departments (EDs) have increased with advances in radiological diagnostic methods. Physician and nurse awareness of the radiation dose in the ED and the associated cancer risks to which the patients are exposed were surveyed with a questionnaire.Methods: A total of 191 subjects in six EDs participated in this study. ED physicians and ED nurses were asked about the risks and the radiation doses of imaging methods ordered in the ED. The differences between the two groups were compared using Studentâs tâtest for continuous variables. A Fisherâs exact and Chiâsquared tests were used for categorical variables.Results: A total of 82 ED physicians and 109 ED nurses completed the questionnaire; 38 (46.3%) physicians and 8 (7.3%) nurses correctly answered the question about the chest Xâray radiation dose. A question about the number of chest Xârays that is equivalent to the dose of a pelvic Xâray was answered correctly by 5 (6.1%) physicians and 9 (8.3%) nurses (P = 0.571). Questions regarding abdominal computed tomography (CT), chest CT, brain CT, abdominal ultrasonography, and brain magnetic resonance imaging were answered correctly more frequently by the physician group than the nurse group (P < 0.05). The risk of developing cancer over a lifetime due to a brain CT was correctly answered by 21 (25.6%) physicians and 30 (27.5%) nurses (P = 0.170). A similar question regarding abdominal CT was correctly answered by 21 (25.6%) physicians and 42 (38.5%) nurses (P = 0.127).Conclusions: Knowledge of the radiation exposure of radiology examinations was lower in nurses than physicians, but knowledge was poor in both groups. ED physicians and nurses should be educated about radiation exposure and cancer risks associated with various diagnostic radiological methods.Keywords: Diagnostic imaging, emergencies, radiation dosag
Combined Effects of Nanoroughness and Ions Produced by Electrodeposition of Mesoporous Bioglass Nanoparticle for Bone Regeneration
Providing appropriate biophysical and biochemical cues to the interface is a facile strategy to enhance the osteogenic ability of metallic implants. Here we exploited this through the incorporation of mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGN) at a high content (1:1 by weight) to a biopolymer chitosan in the electrodeposition process of titanium. The MGBN/chitosan layer thickness, tunable by electrodeposition parameters, exhibited an accelerated ability of apatite mineral induction in a body simulating medium. Of note, the involvement of MBGN could generate nanoscale roughness in a unique range of 10-25 nm. Moreover, the layer showed a slowly releasing profile of ions (calcium and silicate) over weeks at therapeutically relevant doses. The ion-releasing nanotopological surface was demonstrated to alter the preosteoblasts responses in a way favorable for osteogenic differentiation. The combinatory cues of nanotopology (25 nm roughness) and ion release enabled highly accelerated cellular anchorage with somewhat limited spreading area at initial periods. The subsequent osteoblastic differentiation behaviors on the engineered surface, as examined up to 21 days, showed significantly enhanced alkaline phosphate activity and up-regulated expression of bone-associated genes (ALP, Col I, OPN, and OCN). These results indicate that the combinatory cues provided by nanotopology (25 nm roughness) and ions released from MBGN are highly effective in stimulating osteoblastic differentiation and suggest that the MBGN/chitosan may serve as a potential composition for bone implant coatings
PIERCE1 is critical for specification of left-right asymmetry in mice.
The specification of left-right asymmetry of the visceral organs is precisely regulated. The earliest breakage of left-right symmetry occurs as the result of leftward flow generated by asymmetric beating of nodal cilia, which eventually induces asymmetric Nodal/Lefty/Pitx2 expression on the left side of the lateral plate mesoderm. PIERCE1 has been identified as a p53 target gene involved in the DNA damage response. In this study, we found that Pierce1-null mice exhibit severe laterality defects, including situs inversus totalis and heterotaxy with randomized situs and left and right isomerisms. The spectrum of laterality defects was closely correlated with randomized expression of Nodal and its downstream genes, Lefty1/2 and Pitx2. The phenotype of Pierce1-null mice most closely resembled that of mutant mice with impaired ciliogenesis and/or ciliary motility of the node. We also found the loss of asymmetric expression of Cerl2, the earliest flow-responding gene in the node of Pierce1-null embryos. The results suggest that Pierce1-null embryos have defects in generating a symmetry breaking signal including leftward nodal flow. This is the first report implicating a role for PIERCE1 in the symmetry-breaking step of left-right asymmetry specification.1110Ysciescopu
