Lymphoscintigraphy and triangulated body marking for morbidity reduction during sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer
Current trends in patient care include the desire for minimizing invasiveness of procedures and interventions. This aim is reflected in the increasing utilization of sentinel lymph node biopsy, which results in a lower level of morbidity in breast cancer staging, in comparison to extensive conventional axillary dissection. Optimized lymphoscintigraphy with triangulated body marking is a clinical option that can further reduce morbidity, more than when a hand held gamma probe alone is utilized. Unfortunately it is often either overlooked or not fully understood, and thus not utilized. This results in the unnecessary loss of an opportunity to further reduce morbidity. Optimized lymphoscintigraphy and triangulated body marking provides a detailed 3 dimensional map of the number and location of the sentinel nodes, available before the first incision is made. The number, location, relevance based on time/sequence of appearance of the nodes, all can influence 1) where the incision is made, 2) how extensive the dissection is, and 3) how many nodes are removed. In addition, complex patterns can arise from injections. These include prominent lymphatic channels, pseudo-sentinel nodes, echelon and reverse echelon nodes and even contamination, which are much more difficult to access with the probe only. With the detailed information provided by optimized lymphoscintigraphy and triangulated body marking, the surgeon can approach the axilla in a more enlightened fashion, in contrast to when the less informed probe only method is used. This allows for better planning, resulting in the best cosmetic effect and less trauma to the tissues, further reducing morbidity while maintaining adequate sampling of the sentinel node(s)
Preliminary results of high fibular osteotomy (HFO) and cartilage regeneration procedure for medial compartment osteoarthritis of knee with varus deformity
Purpose: High fibular osteotomy (HFO) is a simple surgical technique to reduce pain and improve function in patients with osteoarthritis via fibular osteotomy. We report short-term results of HFO and mesenchymal cell induced chondrogenesis (MCIC) for the treatment of osteoarthritis of knee with varus deformity.
Patients and methods: 45 symptomatic patients with 14 males and 31 females age ranging from 40 to 75
years were treated by HFO and MCIC. Main lesions involved medial compartment of knee and lateral
compartment with normal to mild lesions of lateral meniscus and articular cartilage, amenable to treatment via partial meniscectomy or observation.
Results: Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome score and Lysholm showed a statistically significant increase and VAS, varus angle in X-ray showed a statistically significant decrease. A statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative scores was detected in male and female patients without any sexual differences.
Conclusion: High fibular osteotomy and mesenchymal cell induced chondrogenesis can be considered as a good treatment option for medial compartment osteoarthritis of knee with varus deformity

Interplay between carrier and impurity concentrations in annealed GaMnAs intrinsic anomalous Hall Effect
Investigating the scaling behavior of annealed GaMnAs anomalous
Hall coefficients, we note a universal crossover regime where the scaling
behavior changes from quadratic to linear, attributed to the anomalous Hall
Effect intrinsic and extrinsic origins, respectively. Furthermore, measured
anomalous Hall conductivities when properly scaled by carrier concentration
remain constant, equal to theoretically predicated values, spanning nearly a
decade in conductivity as well as over 100 K in T. Both the qualitative
and quantitative agreement confirms the validity of new equations of motion
including the Berry phase contributions as well as tunablility of the intrinsic
anomalous Hall Effect.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Evidence of metallic clustering in annealed Ga1-xMnxAs from atypical scaling behavior of the anomalous Hall coefficient
We report on the anomalous Hall coefficient and longitudinal resistivity
scaling relationships on a series of annealed Ga1-xMnxAs epilayers (x~0.055).
As-grown samples exhibit scaling parameter n of ~ 1. Near the optimal annealing
temperature, we find n ~ 2 to be consistent with recent theories on the
intrinsic origins of anomalous Hall Effect in Ga1-xMnxAs. For annealing
temperatures far above the optimum, we note n > 3, similar behavior to certain
inhomogeneous systems. This observation of atypical behavior agrees well with
characteristic features attributable to spherical resonance from metallic
inclusions from optical spectroscopy measurements.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figure
