Improved Algorithm for Pathological and Normal Voices Identification

    Get PDF
There are a lot of papers on automatic classification between normal and pathological voices, but they have the lack in the degree of severity estimation of the identified voice disorders. Building a model of pathological and normal voices identification, that can also evaluate the degree of severity of the identified voice disorders among students. In the present work, we present an automatic classifier using acoustical measurements on registered sustained vowels /a/ and pattern recognition tools based on neural networks. The training set was done by classifying students’ recorded voices based on threshold from the literature. We retrieve the pitch, jitter, shimmer and harmonic-to-noise ratio values of the speech utterance /a/, which constitute the input vector of the neural network. The degree of severity is estimated to evaluate how the parameters are far from the standard values based on the percent of normal and pathological values. In this work, the base data used for testing the proposed algorithm of the neural network is formed by healthy and pathological voices from German database of voice disorders. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in a term of the accuracy (97.9%), sensitivity (1.6%), and specificity (95.1%). The classification rate is 90% for normal class and 95% for pathological class

Design and Implementation of a Reservation System and a New Queuing for Remote Labs

Remote laboratories are important in education because they provide access to equipment that some institutions cannot afford to purchase or maintain, reduce the need for dedicated physical space for equipment and personnel to staff laboratories. But more than just fill the absence of real physical laboratories; remote laboratories can improve the users experience through the use of adaptive and specific. An important element in supporting shared access is coordinating the scheduling of the laboratory usage. Optimized scheduling can significantly decrease access waiting times and improve the utilization level of remote laboratories resources, with associated reductions in per-use costs. The user management systems that exist so far are limited, and not compatible with all remote lab interface development software. For that, we worked on the development of a new user management system for remote laboratories. This paper proposes a model and set of diagrams that define the new reservation system and a new Queuing for remote laboratories for educational purposes

E-learning environments are becoming increasingly popular in higher education. One of the most important e-learning resources is the remote laboratory. It gives students opportunities to learn technical training through internet, perform real experience and interact with real equipment and real instruments laboratory. This paper describes the development of interactive remote laboratorythat allows learners to use, control and interact with the measuring instruments used in the real laboratories (like oscilloscope, GBF…).For this reason, we chose to put the manipulation of the signal Treatment moduleon line

Remote Lab Experiments: Measuring and Monitoring of Temperature Changes

    No full text
The physical training education systems of the faculties of science focus on practical manipulations. Remote Labs are a recent approach used for educating experimental manipulations by using the performance of information and communication technologies. This article presents a real remote laboratory using low-cost embedded systems addressed to engineering and undergraduate students. The manipulation is based on the electronic control system to change the temperature with a plate-form, which is developed to permit students and teacher access to this manipulation. Our purpose of this study is the development of a control system to improve current educational systems in Moroccan universities by managing practical manipulations for a large number of students, based on a web from anywhere and anytime. Measuring and Monitoring of Temperature changes is a new experience of a remote monitoring system that will be allowed the users to access the experiment thought a specific web site.</p
