    The Psychobiological Correlates Of Panic Attacks During In Vivo Exposure

    This study examined in detail the psychobiological correlates of panic attacks experienced in panic disorder with agoraphobia. The cognitions, affect, and physiology of the six patients were monitored during in vivo exposure to their phobic situations. The results from these case studies showed that catastrophic cognitions are the key component of panic attacks. However, there was no clear-cut evidence to support an interaction among cognitions, affect, and physiology, which has been postulated by cognitive theories to be the central component of panic attacks and panic disorder with agoraphobia

    Ensemble Eclipse: A Process for Prefab Development Environment for the Ensemble Project

    This software simplifies the process of having to set up an Eclipse IDE programming environment for the members of the cross-NASA center project, Ensemble. It achieves this by assembling all the necessary add-ons and custom tools/preferences. This software is unique in that it allows developers in the Ensemble Project (approximately 20 to 40 at any time) across multiple NASA centers to set up a development environment almost instantly and work on Ensemble software. The software automatically has the source code repositories and other vital information and settings included. The Eclipse IDE is an open-source development framework. The NASA (Ensemble-specific) version of the software includes Ensemble-specific plug-ins as well as settings for the Ensemble project. This software saves developers the time and hassle of setting up a programming environment, making sure that everything is set up in the correct manner for Ensemble development. Existing software (i.e., standard Eclipse) requires an intensive setup process that is both time-consuming and error prone.     Formation of matter-wave soliton molecules

    We propose a method of forming matter-wave soliton molecules that is inspired by the recent experiment of Dris {\it et al.}. In the proposed set-up we show that if two solitons are initially prepared in phase and with a sufficiently small separation and relative velocity, a bound pair will always form. This is verified by direct numerical simulation of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and by the derivation of the exact interaction energy of two solitons, which takes the form of a Morse potential. This interaction potential depends not only on the separation but also on the relative phase of the solitons and is essential for an analytical treatment of a host of other problems, such as the soliton gas and the Toda lattice of solitons.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    We show that an antiferromagnetic spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate, which can for instance be created with Na-23 atoms in an optical trap, has not only singular line-like vortex excitations, but also allows for singular point-like topological excitations, i.e., 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles.     We show that a ferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate has not only line-like vortex excitations, but in general also allows for point-like topological excitations, i.e., skyrmions.     Exact calculation of the skyrmion lifetime in a ferromagnetic Bose condensate

    The tunneling rate of a skyrmion in ferromagnetic spin-1/2 Bose condensates through an off-centered potential barrier is calculated exactly with the periodic instanton method. The prefactor is shown to depend on the chemical potential of the core atoms, at which level the atom tunnels. Our results can be readily extended to estimate the lifetime of other topological excitations in the condensate, such as vortices and monopoles.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, to appear Phys. Rev.

    A new tool for converting food frequency questionnaire data into nutrient and food group values: FETA research methods and availability.

    OBJECTIVES: To describe the research methods for the development of a new open source, cross-platform tool which processes data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition Norfolk Food Frequency Questionnaire (EPIC-Norfolk FFQ). A further aim was to compare nutrient and food group values derived from the current tool (FETA, FFQ EPIC Tool for Analysis) with the previously validated but less accessible tool, CAFÉ (Compositional Analyses from Frequency Estimates). The effect of text matching on intake data was also investigated. DESIGN: Cross-sectional analysis of a prospective cohort study-EPIC-Norfolk. SETTING: East England population (city of Norwich and its surrounding small towns and rural areas). PARTICIPANTS: Complete FFQ data from 11 250 men and 13 602 women (mean age 59 years; range 40-79 years). OUTCOME MEASURES: Nutrient and food group intakes derived from FETA and CAFÉ analyses of EPIC-Norfolk FFQ data. RESULTS: Nutrient outputs from FETA and CAFÉ were similar; mean (SD) energy intake from FETA was 9222 kJ (2633) in men, 8113 kJ (2296) in women, compared with CAFÉ intakes of 9175 kJ (2630) in men, 8091 kJ (2298) in women. The majority of differences resulted in one or less quintile change (98.7%). Only mean daily fruit and vegetable food group intakes were higher in women than in men (278 vs 212 and 284 vs 255 g, respectively). Quintile changes were evident for all nutrients, with the exception of alcohol, when text matching was not executed; however, only the cereals food group was affected. CONCLUSIONS: FETA produces similar nutrient and food group values to the previously validated CAFÉ but has the advantages of being open source, cross-platform and complete with a data-entry form directly compatible with the software.     The association of female reproductive factors with glaucoma and related traits: A systematic review

    TOPIC: This systematic review summarizes the existing evidence for the association between female reproductive factors (age at menarche, parity, oral contraceptive (OC) use, age at menopause, and postmenopausal hormone (PMH) use) and intraocular pressure (IOP) or open-angle glaucoma (OAG). CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Understanding the association between female reproductive factors and glaucoma may shed light on disease pathogenesis and aid clinical prediction and personalized treatment strategies. Importantly, some factors are modifiable which may lead to new therapies. METHODS: Two reviewers independently extracted articles in Medline, Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases to identify relevant studies. Eligibility criteria included studies with human subjects over 18 years of age; a measured exposure of at least one of the following: age at menarche, parity, OC use, age at menopause, PMH use; a measured outcome of either IOP or OAG; a cohort, case-control, cross-sectional or randomized-controlled trial design; and a reported measure of association including hazard, risk or odds ratio or mean difference with associated confidence intervals. RESULTS: We included a total of 27 studies. Substantial differences in study design, exposure and treatment levels, treatment duration and variable reporting precluded meaningful quantitative synthesis of the identified studies. Overall, relatively consistent associations between PMH use and lower IOP were identified. With respect to OAG, estrogen-only PMH use may be associated with lower OAG risk and this association may be modified by race. No significant associations were found with combined estrogen + progesterone PMH use. No strong associations between parity, or age at menarche and glaucoma were found, but a younger age at menopause was associated with increased glaucoma risk, and adverse associations were identified with longer duration of OC use, though no overall association with OC use was found. CONCLUSION: The association between PMH use and lower IOP/OAG risk is a potentially clinically relevant and modifiable risk factor and should be investigated further, although this needs to be interpreted in the context of a high risk of bias across included studies. There is a need for future research examining associations with IOP specifically, and how the relationship between genetic factors and OAG risk may be influenced by female reproductive factors

    A Survey of Air-to-Ground Propagation Channel Modeling for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

    In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), particularly for small UAVs, due to their affordable prices, ease of availability, and ease of operability. Existing and future applications of UAVs include remote surveillance and monitoring, relief operations, package delivery, and communication backhaul infrastructure. Additionally, UAVs are envisioned as an important component of 5G wireless technology and beyond. The unique application scenarios for UAVs necessitate accurate air-to-ground (AG) propagation channel models for designing and evaluating UAV communication links for control/non-payload as well as payload data transmissions. These AG propagation models have not been investigated in detail when compared to terrestrial propagation models. In this paper, a comprehensive survey is provided on available AG channel measurement campaigns, large and small scale fading channel models, their limitations, and future research directions for UAV communication scenarios
