    Kinetics of oxidation of chalcones by peroxydisulphate catalysed by silvert(l) ions

    526-527The kinetics of Ag(I) catalysed oxidation of chalcone and seven substituted chalcones have been studied in acetic atid-water mixture (30% v/v) at constant ionic strength. The reaction is first order each in [peroxydisulphate] and [silver(I)] and the rate is independent of [chalcone]. Added allyl acetate inhibits the reaction. The thermodynamic parameters have been evaluated. The log k values have been fitted with σ+ values and the value of ρ+ has been calculated. The rate law has been explained on the basis of free radical mechanism involving silver(I)
