    Procyclical Monetary Policy and Governance

    Get PDF
Weak governance adversely affects firm’s net worth and consequently the value of its collateral. This negative impact on the collateral reduces the external credit available for importing inputs constraining potential output. As a result, a stronger procyclical monetary policy stance is adopted for protecting the exchange rate and hence arresting the degradation in the collateral constraint.Collateral Constraints; Governance; Monetary Policy

Digitization of World Heritage Sites of Iran as a Tool for Facilitating Online Access During Worldwide Pandemic: Case Study of Pasargadae World Heritage Site

    Get PDF
Purpose Cultural heritage digitization facilitates the preservation of culturally valuable objects, entities, or items into a digital form allowing more comprehensive and concurrent access to such objects. It becomes more significant for overcoming the constraints associated with physical access, especially during turmoil, disasters, and pandemics like COVID-19, where physical interactions are almost restricted. Covid-19 restrictions and resultant social distancing protocols impacted nearly every facet of human life. Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, and heritage sites across the globe were also affected as they were closed for the general public. Therefore, the study explores the importance of making diverse cultural heritage information available online and accessible to the broader user community and provisions for data security through proper backups, setting user privileges, and maintaining necessary updates. Design/Methodology/Approach The study selected Pasargadae world heritage site in Iran as the study area by analyzing the database maintained and available for consultation. Further, the study attempts to highlight the advantages associated with the digitization of cultural items, including manuscripts, images, monuments, sites, etc. It also highlights prerequisites for managing such information online effectively using digitization. Findings Given the state of cultural heritage in Iran, digitization is still in the infancy stage. It is necessary to develop well-equipped policies, technological infrastructures, including high-speed internet, scanning machines, high-resolution digital cameras, and servers with high capacity processing for digitization. Besides, adequate funding and significant management concerns are needed to address various ethical and privacy issues, including copyright concerns associated with Iran’s cultural heritage digitization process. Originality/value The work is a thorough attempt towards surveying Pasargadae world heritage site to understand the basic requirements for creating an online information delivery portal through the digitization of rich cultural heritage sites for enabling access even in virtual mode

RtE Act and inclusive and discrimination-free schools

    Get PDF
Children being non-essential or a weak constituency have no ‘ballot value’ for policy makers and perhaps this is one of the reasons why it took so long to legislate on universal elementary education. They are non-actors and have very little room to negotiate in an indirect and representative democracy. Despite the fact that children are the only beneficiaries of this fundamental right, they are often at the receiving end. It makes evolution of an inclusive education system a very difficult task. Their needs are often conceived from the point of view of parents, families, caste, tribes, community and society, who generally are carriers of ethos, values, mores and culture but not the only ones. They may not necessarily always be in sync with the constitutional ethos and usually patriarchal, feudal, caste-ist and communal/religious and are based on exclusion and largely discriminatory in nature. The Position Paper on SC and ST and Girl’s Education, by NCF-NCERT and Justice Rajindar Sachar Commission’s Reports attest that SC, ST, religious minorities and girl child are subjected to discriminatory practices in elementary schools leading to low enrollment and high dropout

The study attempts to analyze and report research trends in various subject fields of the faculty of Sciences, Life Sciences and Mathematical Science of University of Jammu. The analysis is based on the data gathered from SCOPUS as on March-May, 2011. The data gathered were meticulously analysed to depict research trends in different Departments and Subject areas viz: collaboration at various levels, authorship patterns, and citation profile. The findings reveal that although the faculties under study have witnessed potential growth in terms of research output. However, several departments are still lagging behind in terms of productivity and quality research, which is evident from low research output and citation count received by the publications. Current study is confined to 1237 research contributions that were published during 39 years from (1972 to May, 2011), by the 15 departments under the faculty of Sciences, Life Sciences and Mathematical Sciences of University of Jammu indexed by SCOPUS. The study is beneficial to highlight potential areas of research and will act as a tool for addressing problems at research front in those subject areas where research output is very meagre

Environmental concerns in the knowledge industry: literature review

    Get PDF
The paper aims to explore and identify the recent contributions to the literature available about various environmental issues associated with the Knowledge Industry, from conception until dissemination of knowledge to end-users from the sources available. Design/methodology/approach – An extensive literature survey was performed in an attempt to identify substantial works published to date concerning environmental issues coupled with the Knowledge Industry. A range of online scholarly databases, search engines and websites of recognized international as well as national organizations and publishers was searched, to spot out the substantial works carried out in the area. Varied search terms such as “environmental issues of paper industry”, “paper consumption for books”, “books and carbon footprint” “environmental issues in pulp and paper industry”, “computers and carbon footprint”, “publishing industry and environment”, “internet and environmental issues” and “green computing”, etc. were used for retrieving the literature. Findings – The literature review connotes that hardly any systematic study or scholarly output which can facilitate the precise and accurate facts about environmental issues coupled with the Knowledge Industry is available, although the size of the industry and its effect on the environment is quite large. Practical implications – It is evident from the scrutiny of literature existing that there are still areas for advanced exploration on the topic of environmental concerns of the Knowledge industry; and study paves the way for the concerned organizations and institutions (such as Libraries and Publishers), at global level, to take substantial measures to overcome hazardous effects from the industry. Originality/value – The paper is the first ordered and thorough attempt to review the literature and provide a summary of adverse effects of the Knowledge Industry on the environment

Revolutionizing Medical Education Through Digital Technologies

    Get PDF
Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, processes, devices, and resources that generate, store, or process data. Common examples are websites, video streaming, e- books, blogs, virtual patients, social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), tools (personal computers, smart phones, tablets) and education-specific devices (data projectors, multimedia, simulators, digital cameras, digital stethoscopes, and laparoscopic simulators). As a matter of fact, it is critical for medical educationists to have a basic understanding of these dependencies to make the best use of these technologies in their teaching. A wide range of available digital technologies support today's medical teaching, including content, tools, devices, systems, and processes, all of which are mutually dependent, and in turn, all rely on infrastructure. Furthermore, it is important to choose and use appropriate digital tools and processes that best meet their needs..........................................
