    The Domination of Patriarchy in George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones

    Patriarchy has become a system in society and practically it creates the inequality between man and woman. Since patriarchal society is male-centered, woman’s position is always lower than man. The existence of patriarchy also appears in literary works as a matter of fact that it is a representation of reality. This research attempts to discuss the domination of patriarchy in George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones. To make it specific, this research has been divided into two research questions, they are (1) How is the domination of patriarchy depicted in A Game of Thrones? (2) How do the female characters struggle against patriarchy? The researcher uses radical feminism perspective through five female characters in A Game of Thrones to analyze the data and find out the answer of the research questions. Those female characters are: Arya Stark, Catelyn Tully, Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Sansa Stark. As a result of the research, the domination of patriarchy in A Game of Thrones appears in many ways; in family, in social culture, and in political culture. Every female characters experience the domination of patriarchy in many different ways so each character also has different efforts against patriarchy. Some of them embody the radical-cultural feminist characteristic that emphasizes their cultural value as women to survive in a land of patriarchy. Some of them portray the radical-libertarian feminist ideology that embodies both the masculine and feminine characteristics
