Education 2.0: Exploring the challenges of Corvinus University in the long tail economy of global higher education
Our basic storyline is how the business and economics higher education landscape has changed with the introduction of the Bologna programs. We borrowed the fashionable long tail concept from e-business, and used it for modeling the new landscape of internationalization of universities. Internationalization, mobility, and the appearance of the internet generation at the gates of our universities in our opinion has brought us to a new e-era which, appropriately to our web analogies we might as well call Education 2.0.In our paper first we show the characteristics of the long tail model of the Bologna-based European higher education and potential messages for strategy making in this environment. We illustrate that benchmarking university strategies situated in the head of the long tail model will not always provide strategic guidance for universities sitting in the tail. For underlining some key concerns in the Hungarian niche, we used Corvinus University as a case study to illustrate some untapped challenges of the Hungarian Bologna reform. We explored three areas which are crucial elements of the âtailâ strategy in our opinion: a) the influence of state regulation, b) social situations and impacts and c) internal university capabilities
Cross-Identification of Stars with Unknown Proper Motions
The cross-identification of sources in separate catalogs is one of the most
basic tasks in observational astronomy. It is, however, surprisingly difficult
and generally ill-defined. Recently Budav\'ari & Szalay (2008) formulated the
problem in the realm of probability theory, and laid down the statistical
foundations of an extensible methodology. In this paper, we apply their
Bayesian approach to stars that, we know, can move measurably on the sky, with
detectable proper motion, and show how to associate their observations. We
study models on a sample of stars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which allow
for an unknown proper motion per object, and demonstrate the improvements over
the analytic static model. Our models and conclusions are directly applicable
to upcoming surveys such as PanSTARRS, the Dark Energy Survey, Sky Mapper, and
the LSST, whose data sets will contain hundreds of millions of stars observed

Performance Assessment of Mismatch Mitigation Methodologies Using Field Data in Solar Photovoltaic Systems
Partial shading and other nonâideal conditions cause electrical mismatches that reduce the output power generated by a photovoltaic (PV) system. It affects the overall performance and efficiency of PV systems. Therefore, a model is developed in MATLAB, which analyses the performance of the PV systems under real irradiance profiles and temperatures for various available mismatch mitigation methodologies, i.e., bypass diode, DC power optimizer, and differential power processing (DPP). More specifically, this study will help to understand the best mismatch reduction methodologies for a solar PV system under different scenarios. The results also are validated by comparing them with a similar PV system installed in SolarTechLAB, which also operates under the same irradiance and temperature conditions under which these models are tested. This study also presents novel results, covering discussions on the reverse voltage distribution under mismatch scenarios among bypass diode, DC power optimizer, and DPP techniques
Myosin II Motors and F-Actin Dynamics Drive the Coordinated Movement of the Centrosome and Soma during CNS Glial-Guided Neuronal Migration
SummaryLamination of cortical regions of the vertebrate brain depends on glial-guided neuronal migration. The conserved polarity protein Par6α localizes to the centrosome and coordinates forward movement of the centrosome and soma in migrating neurons. The cytoskeletal components that produce this unique form of cell polarity and their relationship to polarity signaling cascades are unknown. We show that F-actin and Myosin II motors are enriched in the neuronal leading process and that Myosin II activity is necessary for leading process actin dynamics. Inhibition of Myosin II decreased the speed of centrosome and somal movement, whereas Myosin II activation increased coordinated movement. Ectopic expression or silencing of Par6α inhibited Myosin II motors by decreasing Myosin light-chain phosphorylation. These findings suggest leading-process Myosin II may function to âpullâ the centrosome and soma forward during glial-guided migration by a mechanism involving the conserved polarity protein Par6α
Social acceptance of renewable energy: Some examples from Europe and Developing Africa
Current energy systems are in most instances not fully working sustainably. The provision and use of energy only consider limited resources, risk potential or financial constraints on a limited scale. Furthermore, the knowledge and benefits are only available for a minor group of the population or are outright neglected. The availability of different resources for energy purposes determines economic development, as well as the status of the society and the environment. The access to energy grids has an impact on socio-economic living standards of communities. This not fully developed system is causing climate change with all its related outcomes. This investigation takes into consideration different views on renewable energy systems â such as international discussions about biomass use for energy production, âfuel versus foodâ, biogas use â and attempts to compare major prospects of social acceptance of renewable energy in Europe and Africa. Can all obstacles to the use of renewable energy be so profound that the overall strategy of reducing anthropogenic causes of climate change be seriously affected
HYPERSPECTRAL LINEAR UNMIXING: QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION OF NOVEL TARGET DESIGN AND EDGE UNMIXING TECHNIQUE
ABSTRACT Remotely sensed hyperspectral images (HSI) have the potential to provide large amounts of information about a scene. HSI, in this context, are images of the Earth collected with a spatial resolution of 1m to 30m in dozens to hundreds of contiguous narrow spectral bands over different wavelengths so that each pixel is a vector of data. Spectral unmixing is one application which can utilize the large amount of information in HSI. Unmixing is a process used to retrieve a material's spectral profile and its fractional abundance in each pixel since a single pixel contains a mixture of material spectra. Unmixing was used with images collected during an airborne hyperspectral collect at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2010 with 1m resolution and a 390nm to 2450nm spectral range. The goal of our experiment was to quantitatively evaluate unmixing results by introducing a novel unmixing target. In addition, a single-band, edge unmixing technique is introduced with preliminary experimentation which showed results with mean unmixing fraction error of less than 10%. The results of the methods presented above helped in the design of future collection experiments
Applying consumer responsibility principle in evaluating environmental load of carbon emissions
There is a need for a proper indicator in order to assess the environmental impact of international
trade, therefore using the carbon footprint as an indicator can be relevant and useful. The aim of this
study is to show from a methodological perspective how the carbon footprint, combined with input-
output models can be used for analysing the impacts of international trade on the sustainable use
of national resources in a country. The use of the input-output approach has the essential advantage
of being able to track the transformation of goods through the economy. The study examines the environmental
impact of consumption related to international trade, using the consumer responsibility
principle. In this study the use of the carbon footprint and input-output methodology is shown on the
example of the Hungarian consumption and the impact of international trade. Moving from a production-
based approach in climate policy to a consumption-perspective principle and allocation,
would also help to increase the efficiency of emission reduction targets and the evaluation of the
ecological impacts of international trade
One More Awareness Gap? The BehaviourâImpact Gap Problem
Preceding research has made hardly any attempt to measure the ecological impacts of pro-environmental behaviour in an objective way. Those impacts were rather supposed or calculated. The research described herein scrutinized the ecological impact reductions achieved through pro-environmental behaviour and raised the question how much of a reduction in carbon footprint can be achieved through voluntary action without actually affecting the socio-economic determinants of life. A survey was carried out in order to measure the difference between the ecological footprint of âgreenâ and âbrownâ consumers. No significant difference was found between the ecological footprints of the two groupsâsuggesting that individual pro-environmental attitudes and behaviour do not always reduce the environmental impacts of consumption. This finding resulted in the formulation of a new proposition called the BIG (behaviourâimpact gap) problem, which is an interesting addition to research in the field of environmental awareness gaps
Pre-Excitation Studies for Rubidium-Plasma Generation
The key element in the Proton-Driven-Plasma-Wake-Field-Accelerator (AWAKE)
project is the generation of highly uniform plasma from Rubidium vapor. The
standard way to achieve full ionization is to use high power laser which can
assure the over-barrier-ionization (OBI) along the 10 meters long active
region. The Wigner-team in Budapest is investigating an alternative way of
uniform plasma generation. The proposed Resonance Enhanced Multi Photon
Ionization (REMPI) scheme probably can be realized by much less laser power. In
the following the resonant pre-excitations of the Rb atoms are investigated,
theoretically and the status report about the preparatory work on the
